Abstract: Sustainable development has provided a significant conceptual approach for the solutions of problems on the triangle of industrialization, urbanization, and population increase. In order to advance the current and future welfare of its members, European Union (EU) has worked to build its development model on the principles of sustainability. The involvement of business organizations to this process is viewed critical to achieve the overarching sustainability principle. However the adoption of sustainability seems to be more problematic among the organizations in the new member and candidate states. The aim of current study is to discuss why and how corporate social responsibility (CSR) can provide a useful framework for these countries in their integration process to EU's sustainability policy. In the study, after examining the current understanding of CSR in these countries, a network oriented approach is proposed to contribute to the generation of a sustainable future in an enlarged Europe. TL;DR: The descriptive analysis results show that increasing productivity in business processes and working collaboratively from remote are the most important perceived benefits of adopting cloud computing in the production sector and service sector, respectively.
Abstract: Purpose of the study: This research aims to understand the benefits and challenges of cloud and non-cloud adopter companies of production and service sectors on cloud computing and making recommendations based on companies’ perceptions of the issue in Izmir, Turkey. Methodology: This is a descriptive survey of businesses, forming a questionnaire for 99 companies in the service sector and 66 companies in the production sector to non-cloud or cloud user businesses in the city of Izmir in Turkey. SPSS 26.0 software is used to analyze the perceived benefits and challenges of cloud computing. Main Findings: The descriptive analysis results show that increasing productivity in business processes and working collaboratively from remote are the most important perceived benefits of adopting cloud computing in the production sector and service sector, respectively. On the other hand, business processes adoption issues and concerns about security are the significant perceived challenges and barriers of cloud computing adoption, respectively. Applications of this study: The study is useful for governments to understand the critical points of cloud computing and is believed to give governments the ability to prepare an appropriate environment for businesses. Cloud providers and companies also take a position to contribute to this environment by creating new I.T. products and purchasing these I.T. products conforming to their I.T. needs, respectively. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research provides companies in Izmir with a guide for the adoption considering the appropriate cloud computing deployment models such as public cloud, private cloud, community cloud and hybrid cloud for certain types of applications such as software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service(PaaS) and Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) for developing countries.

TL;DR: In this article, a framework of socio-cultural and economic factors that determine gender-based division, both in the labor market and households, causes women generally lag behind men at all levels in Turkey.
Abstract: Recent drastic changes in demand for and supply of labor have given rise to efficient labor market transformations, notably in the status of gender stereotypes in advanced countries. An important question remains: Why are women’s roles in the labor market still lagging in terms of the distribution of resources and wages in developing countries? Given that wage inequality and gender segregation in occupations continues, those issues require further discussion from the viewpoint of gender inequality. While similar transformations have taken place in Turkey, aggregate data indicates that female employment and labor force participation still need special consideration. The framework of socio-cultural and economic factors that determines gender-based division, both in the labor market and households, causes women generally lag behind men at all levels in Turkey. The limited number of jobs available for women, long working hours, heavy working conditions, low wages and women’s lack of work skills are some of the factors keeping women out of the labor market. Despite recent amendments to legislation aimed at preventing gender inequality, it is still not possible to see female employment increasing due to and the strict conservative patriarchal values that characterize Turkish society. Further investments are needed in fields such as the active labor market and life-long learning in order to increase female employment. Reducing informal employment while promoting high quality and productive jobs is all crucial for addressing the problems of female unemployment in Turkey.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a one-sector Kaleckian model of an import dependent, small open economy, where the mark-up rate is sensitive to both changes in the interest rate and the exchange rate and foreigners provide part of the long-term finance.
Abstract: This paper develops a one-sector Kaleckian model of an import dependent indebted small open economy; where the mark-up rate is sensitive to both changes in the interest rate and the exchange rate and foreigners provide part of the long-term finance. The short-run consequences of an inflation targeting policy in the form of high interest rates and strong domestic currency are explored. Among the possible short-run scenarios, the one most relevant for developing countries involves a decline in the profit rate, the capacity utilization rate and the rate of accumulation as well as the employment rate and the real wage. Leverage ratio of the firms and the extent of external indebtedness play an important role in bringing about this result. Long-run analysis reveals that this scenario is associated with instability in the long run and that, also in the long run, the extent of foreign indebtedness and the responsiveness of capital inflows to the return on existing portfolios are important in determining the dire...

TL;DR: It is presented that using turntable for picking or loading operation offers time savings over traditional manual material handling in most cases.
Abstract: In this study, we mainly investigate the impacts of usage of a raisable turntable as a material handling equipment in forward-picking area of the warehouse with respect to the loading and unloading operation of a box in a pallet For unloading, we evaluate expected time to pick (extract) cases from a pallet We develop a varying picking time expression with respect to the human factors and the positions of cases in a pallet to formulate expected picking time We also conduct a detailed experimental design to investigate the effects of several important parameters such as pick list size and number of cases in a pallet on picking time We show that human factors and picking from different positions, as well as number of picks, have an important impact on extracting time of cases Therefore, we present that using turntable for picking or loading operation offers time savings over traditional manual material handling in most cases
