TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive review of solar exergy analysis is presented, which is based on the relative potential of the maximum energy available from radiation for various solar energy-related applications and is also a link between exergy and sustainable development.
Abstract: Energy resources and their utilization intimately relate to sustainable development. In attaining sustainable development, increasing the energy efficiencies of processes utilizing sustainable energy resources plays an important role. The utilization of renewable energy offers a wide range of exceptional benefits. There is also a link between exergy and sustainable development. Exergy analysis has been widely used in the design, simulation, and performance evaluation of various energy systems as well as renewable energy sources. In this regard, determination of exergy of solar radiation is very crucial for various solar energy-related applications and is based on the relative potential of the maximum energy available from radiation. The efficiency factor limiting the gain of the maximum useful energy from the solar radiation is significantly similar to that of the Carnot efficiency for the heat engines. The main objectives of this study are two-fold, namely, (i) to comprehensively review various solar exe...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the process and outcome of using learner-centred methods to develop students' empathic design abilities during an educational workshop on inclusive design, and suggest the significance of incorporating inclusive design within the education of design disciplines.
Abstract: This paper explores the process and outcome of using learner-centred methods to develop students’ empathic design abilities during an educational workshop on inclusive design. In the first section of the paper, we suggest the significance of incorporating inclusive design within the education of design disciplines. Then, we introduce a workshop on inclusive design awareness that architecture and interior design students participated, which applied various learner-centred methods. We discuss the process that incorporated project-based learning, role-playing/simulation and students’ reflections and feedback on their experience. The workshop process, the student project experience and students’ reflections on their learning indicate how multiple methods of learning engage students and enhance their empathic understanding so they can embrace differences and adopt a user-centred design approach. Based on the findings, we provide suggestions for similar educational events that can be applied in other di...

01 Oct 2019TL;DR: In this study, ECG arrhythmia types of non-ectopic (N), ventricular ectopic (V), unknown (Q), supraventricular ectopy (S) and fusion (F) were classified by using the convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture to increase the positive predictive value (PPV) rates of the classes which consist of a few instances.
Abstract: In this study, ECG arrhythmia types of non-ectopic (N), ventricular ectopic (V), unknown (Q), supraventricular ectopic (S) and fusion (F) were classified by using the convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture. QRS detection was performed on these ECG arrhythmias that downloaded from MIT-BIH database. An imbalanced number of beats was obtained for 5 different arrhythmia types. In order to reduce the effect of imbalance in statistical performance metrics, data mining techniques, such as recall of data, were applied. It was aimed to increase the positive predictive value (PPV) rates of the classes which consist of a few instances.
