TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of material dispersion on the omnidirectional reflectors (ODR) properties in the case of one-dimensional photonic crystal structures consisting of alternate layers of zinc oxide as material of high refractive index and SiO2 material of low this paper.
Abstract: We report a numerical study of the effect of material dispersion on the omnidirectional reflectors (ODR) properties in the case of one-dimensional photonic crystal structures consisting of alternate layers of zinc oxide as material of high refractive index and SiO2 as material of low refractive index. The interplay of dispersion and structural parameters on the ODR properties of the structure of interest has been analyzed. Taking into account the material dispersion properties, shift in the wavelength range for ODR from (1079 − 1158 nm) to (1133 − 1103 nm) is observed. This shows the narrowing of the bandwidth for ODR from 79 to 30 nm as a result of material dispersion. The wavelength range of interest is close to optical communication wavelengths and is useful in many optical device applications.

01 Apr 2015TL;DR: The authors have identified critical to quality characteristics and proposed a team structure for successful implementation of a Six sigma project and recommended findings along with an implementation control plan based on a case study of technical institution located in National Capital Region (NCR) in India.
Abstract: There have been many successful applications of Six sigma in manufacturing over the last two decades. In the last decade, there has been quantum increase in applications of Six sigma in service organizations. However, academic organizations have legged other organizations in applying Six sigma. Education is emerging as major commercial activity in the service sector, and institutions are realizing the significance of quality improvement in education. Quality in education is no more a desirable strategy; it has become essential for the survival of an institution. The paper illustrates how Six sigma may be used to improve performance parameters of a technical institution. The authors have identified critical to quality characteristics and proposed a team structure for successful implementation of a Six sigma project. The authors have further recommended findings along with an implementation control plan based on a Six sigma case study of technical institution located in National Capital Region (NCR) in India. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors conducted an energetic and energetic analysis of seven different thermodynamic cycle configurations of combined cycle power plants (CCPPs) at different pressure ratios and showed that the exergy destruction in various components of the combined cycle is significantly affected by the overall pressure ratio, turbine inlet temperature and pressure loss in air filter.
Abstract: Combined cycle power plants (CCPPs) are in operation with diverse thermodynamic cycle configurations. Assortment of thermodynamic cycle for scrupulous locality is dependent on the type of fuel available and different utilities obtained from the plant. In the present paper, seven of the practically applicable configurations of CCPP are taken into consideration. Exergetic and energetic analysis of each component of the seven configurations is conducted with the help of computer programming tool, i.e., engineering equation solver (EES) at different pressure ratios. For Case 7, the effects of pressure ratio, turbine inlet temperature and ambient relative humidity on the first and second law is studied. The thermodynamics analysis indicates that the exergy destruction in various components of the combined cycle is significantly affected by the overall pressure ratio, turbine inlet temperature and pressure loss in air filter and less affected by the ambient relative humidity.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of process parameters, i.e., pouring temperature, vacuum pressure, insert temperature and grit size of sandpaper, on impact strength of joint interface was investigated.
Abstract: Aluminum alloy A356 and pure magnesium bimetallic castings were produced by vacuum-assisted sand mold compound casting process. The effect of process parameters, i.e., pouring temperature, vacuum pressure, insert temperature and grit size of sandpaper, on impact strength of joint interface was investigated. The experiments were executed by using central composite design approach. Experimental data were utilized to formulate a second-order regression model. Scanning electron microscopy of joint interface revealed that a uniform joint interface consisting of three different layers is obtained due to the diffusion between A356 insert and Mg melt. X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy patterns confirmed the formation of intermetallic compounds Mg2Al3, Mg17Al12 and Mg2Si at A356/Mg interface. The parameters were optimized by using desirability analysis (DA), response surface methodology and genetic algorithm (GA) techniques in order to maximize the impact strength. The maximum value of impact strength is obtained as 10.5, 10.68, 11.71 and 12.29 in experimental, regression, DA and GA, respectively. The best value of impact strength (12.29 MPa) is obtained by GA optimization at 661.13 °C pouring temperature, 200.02 mm of Hg vacuum pressure, 328 °C insert temperature and 1187.15 as grit size of sandpaper.
