TL;DR: This study imposed managers to select significant attributes and alternatives for enhancement of industries at global level by using Fuzzy MADM approach and results show that responsiveness and reliability is found best alternatives among all the alternatives.
Abstract: The essence of benchmarking is the process of identifying the highest standards of superiority for products, services or processes and then make the essential improvements to reach those standards. Today, assessment of service is a main management concern for industries tends to convert benchmark in its respective field. In this study, an endeavor has been made by the authors to evaluate the performance of benchmark model in service industries by using Fuzzy MADM approach where linguistic labels are used to describe attributes of benchmarking which are identified through literature and experts opinion. Afterwards overall numerical index has been computed by using graph theoretic approach, which helps to compare different alternatives of benchmarking for industries’ existence. The results show that responsiveness and reliability is found best alternatives among all the alternatives and Tangibles system is considered as nastiest for the study. This study imposed managers to select significant attributes and alternatives for enhancement of industries at global level.

05 Dec 2013TL;DR: In this paper, graph theory and matrix method is used to analyze some of the heat recovery possibilities with the newly available gas turbine engines, which range from dual pressure heat recovery steam generation systems, to triple pressure systems with reheat in supercritical steam conditions.
Abstract: In the present work, graph theory and matrix method is used to analyze some of the heat recovery possibilities with the newly available gas turbine engines. The schemes range from dual pressure heat recovery steam generation systems, to triple pressure systems with reheat in supercritical steam conditions. From the developed methodology, result comes out in the form of a number called as index. A real life operating Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) is a very large and complex system. Efficiency of its components and sub-systems are closely intertwined and insuperable without taking the effect of others. For the development of methodology, CCPP is divided into six sub-systems in such a way that no sub-system is independent. Digraph for the interdependencies of sub-system is organized and converted into matrix form for easy computer processing. The results obtained with present methodology are in line with the results available in literature. The methodology is developed with a view that power plant managers can take early decision for selection, improvements and comparison, amongst the various options available, without having in-depth knowledge of thermodynamics analysis.Copyright © 2013 by ASME

01 Dec 2012TL;DR: In this article, an attempt has been made to determine the proper location of STATCOM and series compensator working independently as well as simultaneously for improving the transient stability of a multi-machine power system.
Abstract: In this paper, an attempt has been made to determine the proper location of STATCOM and series compensator working independently as well as simultaneously for improving the transient stability of a multi machine power system. The transient stability condition is usually assessed by evaluating critical clearing time (CCT), i.e. maximal fault duration for which the system remains transiently stable. The CCT is obtained by increasing the fault time interval until the system loses its stability. The effect of variation of generator loading, reference source voltage of STATCOM and degree of compensation on transient stability condition has also been considered at various locations of STATCOM and series capacitor. The results indicate the importance of installing STATCOM to a power system due to their effect of not only on stabilizing the system voltages but also increasing the power system critical clearing time in case of unrepeated three phase ground fault. Increase in CCT can help in the reliable operation of the protection system and reduce the protection system rating and its cost.

01 Dec 2012TL;DR: An endeavor has been made in this paper to provide mathematical model to rank the technical institutions by using Fuzzy MADM approach, which will save lot of time and will give confidence to both technical institutions and students.
Abstract: Selection of a technical institution is a complex task as it involves many tangible and intangible factors, which are difficult to quantify. Moreover, this problem becomes much more important as the whole professional life of the student depends upon this. With the change in higher education policy in 1991, lots of technical universities came into existence in India. With the ever rising number of technical institutions, it becomes important to rank these institutions so that students can choose appropriate institution, according to their capabilities. Although many agencies, provide these ranking but these seems to be biased one. Therefore, an endeavor has been made in this paper to provide mathematical model to rank the technical institutions by using Fuzzy MADM approach. Fuzzy logic helps to quantify the intangible factors and Graph Theoretic and Matrix Approach (GTMA) gives single numerical index based upon which different technical institutions can be compared easily. This will save lot of time and will give confidence to both technical institutions and students.

11 Aug 2014TL;DR: A novel fuzzy-based routing strategy is proposed that presents far better results when compared with shortest path routing protocol employing CR capabilities and an attempt has been made to evaluate the performance of proposed routing strategy in realistic environment.
Abstract: With the growing spectrum demand over the last decade, the use of cognitive radio networks (CRN) has provided a viable solution to spectrum scarcity problem. These networks basically employ two types of users: primary user (PU) and secondary user (SU). The PUs are allocated a license to use the spectrum at their will. On the other hand the SUs communicates via other SUs or through the licensed spectrum of PU nodes opportunistically. In such a scenario it is important that routing protocol that is deployed must take into consideration the stability of the route. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel fuzzy-based routing strategy with this objective in mind. Further, an attempt has been made to evaluate the performance of proposed routing strategy in realistic environment. The simulation results shows that the path selection utilising the fuzzy theory presents far better results when compared with shortest path routing protocol employing CR capabilities.
