Abstract: Presented here is a multicomponent synthetic strategy that allows for the direct, fluorescence-based monitoring of the targeted cellular uptake and release of a conjugated therapeutic agent. Specifically, we report here the design, synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, and preliminary in vitro biological evaluation of a RGD peptide-appended naphthalimide pro-CPT (compound 1). Compound 1 is a multifunctional molecule composed of a disulfide bond as a cleavable linker, a naphthalimide moiety as a fluorescent reporter, an RGD cyclic peptide as a cancer-targeting unit, and camptothecin (CPT) as a model active agent. Upon reaction with free thiols in aqueous media at pH 7.4, disulfide cleavage occurs. This leads to release of the free CPT active agent, as well as the production of a red-shifted fluorescence emission (λmax = 535 nm). Abstract: Five models of collectivism and individualism, which varied by ingroup and measurement specification, were tested with confirmatory factor analyses. The sample consisted of 493 college students from South Korea and the United States, with U.S. students divided between Asian Americans and European Americans. Results indicated that collectivism and individualism are best represented by a 4-factor model with the latent variables Kin Collectivism (KC), in Individualism (KI), Nonkin Collectivism (N), and Nonkin Individualism (NI). KC and KI were strongly inversely related, but NC and NI were only moderately so. Whereas KC and NC were moderately related within each of the 3 student groups, KI and NI were moderately related only among Koreans and Asian Americans, and not among European Americans. Thus, the meanings of collectivism and individualism vary with ingroup and culture. Measurement, methodological, and conceptual implications are discussed.

Abstract: The production of π+, π−, K+, K−, p, and \(\overline{\mathrm{p}}\) at mid-rapidity has been measured in proton-proton collisions at \(\sqrt{s} = 900~\mathrm{GeV}\) with the ALICE detector. Particle identification is performed using the specific energy loss in the inner tracking silicon detector and the time projection chamber. In addition, time-of-flight information is used to identify hadrons at higher momenta. Finally, the distinctive kink topology of the weak decay of charged kaons is used for an alternative measurement of the kaon transverse momentum (pt) spectra. Since these various particle identification tools give the best separation capabilities over different momentum ranges, the results are combined to extract spectra from pt=100 MeV/c to 2.5 GeV/c. The measured spectra are further compared with QCD-inspired models which yield a poor description. The total yields and the mean pt are compared with previous measurements, and the trends as a function of collision energy are discussed.

Abstract: This brief proposes an adaptive neural sliding mode control method for trajectory tracking of nonholonomic wheeled mobile robots with model uncertainties and external disturbances. The dynamic model with model uncertainties and the kinematic model represented by polar coordinates are considered to design a robust control system. Self recurrent wavelet neural networks (SRWNNs) are used for approximating arbitrary model uncertainties and external disturbances in dynamics of the mobile robot. From the Lyapunov stability theory, we derive online tuning algorithms for all weights of SRWNNs and prove that all signals of a closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, we perform computer simulations to demonstrate the robustness and performance of the proposed control system.
