Abstract: The extreme learning machine (ELM) is famous for its single hidden-layer feed-forward neural network which results in much faster learning speed comparing with traditional machine learning techniques. Moreover, extensions of ELM achieve stable classification performances for imbalanced data. In this paper, we introduce a hybrid method combining the extended Kalman filter (EKF) with cost-sensitive dissimilar ELM (CS-D-ELM). The raw data are preprocessed by EKF to produce inputs for the CS-D-ELM classifier. Experimental results show that the proposed method is more suitable for real-time fault diagnosis of air handling units than traditional approaches.

Abstract: The first successful therapeutic iron chelator was desferrioxamine which was introduced in the late 1960's by Ciba (now Novartis). Desferrioxamine has been an extremely successful compound having received the MMW "Pharmaceutical of the year" award for 1991. It is a life saving and a life - prolonging drug which improves the quality of life. However it is not orally active and its administration is both uncomfortable and expensive. Over the past twenty years there has been a growing interest in the orally active iron chelators, deferiprone and exjade, both having been extensively studied. The ability of these compounds to mobilize iron from the heart and endocrine tissue has presented the clinician with some advantages over desferrioxamine. Other orally active iron chelators are currently under development and one, FBS0701 is in clinical trial. The critical features necessary for the design of therapeutically useful iron chelators is presented in this review, together with recent studies devoted to the design of such chelators. This newly emerging range of iron chelators will enable clinicians to apply iron chelation methodology to other disease states and to begin to design personalised chelation regimes.

Abstract: Medical systems allow patients to receive care at different hospitals. However, this entails considerable inconvenience through the need to transport patients and their medical records between hospitals. The development of Telecare Medicine Information Systems (TMIS) makes it easier for patients to seek medical treatment and to store and access medical records. However, medical data stored in TMIS is not encrypted, leaving patients' private data vulnerable to external leaks. In 2014, scholars proposed a new cloud-based medical information model and authentication scheme which would not only allow patients to remotely access medical services but also protects patient privacy. However, this scheme still fails to provide patient anonymity and message authentication. Furthermore, this scheme only stores patient medical data, without allowing patients to directly access medical advice. Therefore, we propose a new authentication scheme, which provides anonymity, unlinkability, and message authentication, and allows patients to directly and remotely consult with doctors. In addition, our proposed scheme is more efficient in terms of computation cost. The proposed system was implemented in Android system to demonstrate its workability.
