TL;DR: The results showed that the expression of some metabolism enzymes and chaperones in TP-treated S. marcescens significantly increased compared to the untreated group, which might result in the metabolic disorder of this bacteria.
Abstract: In this study, we investigated the antimicrobial effect of tea polyphenols (TP) against Serratia marcescens and examined the related mechanism. Morphology changes of S. marcescens were first observed by transmission electron microscopy after treatment with TP, which indicated that the primary inhibition action of TP was to damage the bacterial cell membranes. The permeability of the outer and inner membrane of S. marcescens dramatically increased after TP treatment, which caused severe disruption of cell membrane, followed by the release of small cellular molecules. Furthermore, a proteomics approach based on two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and MALDI-TOF/TOF MS analysis was used to study the difference of membrane protein expression in the control and TP treatment S. marcescens. The results showed that the expression of some metabolism enzymes and chaperones in TP-treated S. marcescens significantly increased compared to the untreated group, which might result in the metabolic disorder of this bacteria. Taken together, our results first demonstrated that TP had a significant growth inhibition effect on S. marcescens through cell membrane damage.

TL;DR: This paper proposes two DSSE schemes supporting range queries, one of which is forward-secure and supports a large number of documents and the other can achieve both forward security and backward security, while it can only support a limited number of Documents.
Abstract: Dynamic searchable symmetric encryption (DSSE) is a useful cryptographic tool in encrypted cloud storage. However, it has been reported that DSSE usually suffers from file-injection attacks and content leak of deleted documents. To mitigate these attacks, forward security and backward security have been proposed. Nevertheless, the existing forward/backward-secure DSSE schemes can only support single keyword queries. To address this problem, in this paper, we propose two DSSE schemes supporting range queries. One is forward-secure and supports a large number of documents. The other can achieve both forward security and backward security, while it can only support a limited number of documents. Finally, we also give the security proofs of the proposed DSSE schemes in the random oracle model.

TL;DR: A stronger interaction between OVA and GA led to greater viscoelastic properties, and the complex coacervates showed the highest viscosity value at pH 3.7, which can reduce the pH-induced conformational perturbations of ovalbumin.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of TiO2 nanoparticles on the transport of Cu through four different soil columns were studied and linear correlation analysis indicated that soil properties rather than sorption capacities for Cu primary governed whether the nanoparticles-facilitated transport facilitated Cu transport.

TL;DR: CP251 was found to exhibit an inhibitory effect on the growth of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, which may find application in the treatment of external infections such as those associated with wounds.
Abstract: The antimicrobial activity of the iron(III)-selective 3-hydroxypyridin-4-one chelators, CP251(1) and CP252(2), was evaluated in comparison with that of diethylenetriamine-penta acetic acid (3). CP251 was found to exhibit an inhibitory effect on the growth of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. CP251 may find application in the treatment of external infections such as those associated with wounds.
