Abstract: This article describes the importance of Conselho Nacional dos Direitos da Mulher – CNDM (National Women’s Rights Council), its achievements within civil society and its efforts to assure women the rights of citizenship and the fulfillment of their claims. Some of these achievements are a reality today, such as including rape and sexual abuse as crimes against persons, the struggle for equal opportunity in politics and at work.
