TL;DR: This article aims to present seven didactic examples with real data sets available to those who want to learn or teach PLS-SEM, dealing with such topics as measurement model evaluation, structural model Evaluation, multicollinearity, second-order latent variable, mediation, moderation with numerical and categorical variables (MGA - multi-group analysis).
Abstract: The structural equation modeling with partial least squares estimation (PLS-SEM) has been used in a wide variety of research areas, increasing the number of articles published using this method in an exponential way. There are several reasons for this to be happening, but one of them is the fact that the SmartPLS software facilitated the use of PLS-SEM. This article aims to present seven didactic examples with real data sets available to those who want to learn or teach PLS-SEM, dealing with such topics as measurement model evaluation, structural model evaluation, multicollinearity, second-order latent variable, mediation, moderation with numerical and categorical variables (MGA - multi-group analysis).

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the paths of historical research in administration as a research method, aiming to elucidate the concepts and procedures that allow the operationalization of Historical research within the field of Administration.
Abstract: Since the last decade, the use of History has been consolidating as a legitimate perspective in research in the field of Administration in general and in Organizational Studies in a more specific way. However, in spite of the maturation, this type of research still needs to be explained more about concepts and procedures that allow the operationalization of Historical research within the field of Administration. In this sense, this article aims to discuss the paths of Historical Research in Administration as a research method, aiming to elucidate the concept of historical research and historical method. In order to reach this goal, we seek to revisit the historical research in administration and then discuss three main guiding concepts of historical research: historical fact, sources and historical documents and historical operation, inserted within a path and methodological operationalization considering the different stages of historical research and its particularities. With this discussion, we intend to open the way for researchers in the area of administration to assume a critical and reflexive action capable of breaking with traditional thinking that perceives organizations as static structures, regular and constituted from causal relationships whose universal laws and standards seek to explain and predict, historically, what happens in the social world.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify the types of arguments used to justify scientific research in the administration of scientific research, using exploratory research implemented by mixed methods (concomitant triangulation).
Abstract: The relevance of the study has been recognized as the main factor of rejection or acceptance of articles by journals editors. Thus, justifying the study in a clear and persuasive way is a preponderant knowledge for the researchers. However, despite the importance, the research manuals superficially treat the presentation of the relevance of a research. Thus, the objective of this article is to identify the types of arguments used to justify scientific research in Administration. To obtain the answer, we used exploratory research implemented by mixed methods (concomitant triangulation). As a result, six types of arguments were identified for articles in the Administration area: authority arguments, scarcity, theoretical contribution, necessity, practical contribution and gap.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focus on the contributions that Science without Borders (SwB) has made towards solidifying internationalisation in Brazilian universities, and analyze the rationale underpinning the programme's conception and implementation; its results; and particularly its expansion at the institutional level.
Abstract: Criticism of ‘Science without Borders’ (SwB) – the largest governmental strategy for internationalisation in the history of Brazilian higher education – has resulted in an interest in investigating the achievements of this programme. This article focuses on the contributions that SwB has made towards solidifying internationalisation in Brazilian universities. To do so, it analyses the rationale underpinning the programme’s conception and implementation; its results; and, particularly, its expansion at the institutional level. This qualitative and exploratory research combined bibliographic and documentary resources and used thematic content analysis to do so. Results demonstrate that SwB has enhanced the exposure of Brazilian universities to the international environment, favoured academic partnerships and networks, and influenced the definition of the internationalisation model the Brazilian government wishes to adopt. Since its contribution to the learning curve has induced the decision to move towards a more organic and comprehensive process of internationalisation, it has widened the conditions that create an international environment within universities.

TL;DR: In this paper, a case study was carried out at a private university in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil to analyze to what extent context, organizational and curricular elements collaborate for the Management Education from the sustainability perspective.
Abstract: This paper considers Higher Education as a key element to encourage actions and changes. It emphasizes the education of managers. This is based on the supposition that organizations and their actors are essential in promoting positive outcomes in society. In this context, this paper proposes to answer the following question: How can contextual, organizational and curricular elements collaborate to the topic of Sustainability in Management Education? Thus, the aim of this paper is to analyze to what extent context, organizational and curricular elements collaborate for the Management Education from the Sustainability perspective. Therefore, to achieve this a case study was carried out at a private university in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The data collection was divided into four phases: analysis of Administration course Syllabus; interview with the key people in the institution’s administration; focus group with students; application of a questionary to students. Besides, secondary data from the institutional website and documents of the institution were considered. The main results show there is an institutional movement that emerges from the communitary characteristics of Higher Education Institution (HEI) and from external evaluations. There are also socioenvironmental practices, but the HEI is usually viewed as a means of innovation and not necessarily as a means of sustainability. The Business Administration curriculum went through changes that include the insertion of specific courses in these areas, which coincide to the concern expressed by the students.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors address the challenges of integrating research and teaching, from university extension program, as an important strategy to materialize the quality of academic training in Management towards the objectives of sustainable development (ODS).
Abstract: This study addresses the challenges of integrating research and teaching, from university extension program, as an important strategy to materialize the quality of academic training in Management towards the objectives of sustainable development (ODS). The action, object of study, is developed by the Department of Administrative Sciences and Department of Public Administration and Social Management of UFRN in collaboration with other departments and campuses of the same institution. The development of the action occurred in the Association of the indigenous community of Mendonca do Amarelao, in the municipality of Joao Câmara / RN. The objective of this study was to understand how problem situations are formulated for a university-society partnership in search of sustainable development through research projects, and how these actions feedback the education system. The research was carried out through action research (THIOLLENT, 2003) and a qualitative approach in data analysis. The systematization of common problems and needs (community-university) has led to a central theme under which action has been taken: the management of short production circuits, with emphasis on achieving food and nutritional sovereignty and security, promoting sustainable agriculture and ensure sustainable production and consumption patterns. It was noticed that the community is oriented to the valorization, recognition and preservation of the local resources, important to the accomplishment of the ODS. In this sense, in addition to the very condition of indigenous peoples, such as those related to the territory, there are local obstacles related to productive capacity management and production organization, bureaucratic, commercial and gender, that impact on their food security and sovereignty and require interdisciplinary debate , with several fields of knowledge and teachers involved with the current needs of society to align them with the teaching environment and with research questions in proposing the necessary referrals to the technical-scientific and cultural development and the citizen training of UFRN graduates, highlighting the university extension program as an integrating link between research and teaching and making possible the construction of a unified interdisciplinary proposal that recognizes education as an emancipatory and continuous practice of the human being.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify the elements and form of creative educational spaces from the perspective of the main actors involved in the context of higher education in management, based on three theoretical aspects: value co-creation, creative spaces of education and, educative innovation.
Abstract: The research goal was to identify the elements and form of creative educational spaces from the perspective of the main actors involved in the context of higher education in management. The study is based on three theoretical aspects: value co-creation, creative spaces of education and, educative innovation. The methodology was exploratory and qualitative, that performs a process of value co-creation using the Focus Group technique with an intentional sampling of teachers, students, employee, and head department of a Brazilian university. The results indicate alignment with the approaches of educative innovation and creative spaces regarding institutional innovation structural and didactic. The ideal model of creative education space co-created by the group maintains similarity with the coworking spaces and organizational structures of non-traditional firms. A consensus among teachers and students considered the current classrooms, used in most universities, as outdated and, discouraging of creativity for both educators and students and should be rethought on pain of being one of the points generated from school dropout. The creative space of education was associated with the interaction, technologies, functionalities, gamification and creative leisure.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the impact of social marketing contents within the discipline of marketing administration in the undergraduate degree in administration, in order to analyze their contributions in the formation of the students.
Abstract: The training of management students in Brazil is centered on managerial aspects of marketing and, because of this, graduates seem unable to cope with the complexity of the marketing systems. Thus, the present research sought to incorporate experimentally the social marketing contents within the discipline of marketing administration in the undergraduate degree in administration, in order to analyze their contributions in the formation of the students. For this, the research took place in two distinct stages, first, a social marketing seminar was conducted within the discipline of marketing administration, and then to focus groups in order to obtain a comparison between the dimensions proposed by Bernadinelli and Sauberbron (2017) for the training of the administrator. At the end of the research, it was concluded that social marketing teaching provided students with a better understanding of marketing as a broad-based science, significantly reducing the separation between marketing and society and the stakeholder roles that make up the market.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify relations between extracurricular activities (AE) and the possession of managerial competences (CG) in Brazilian research groups (GP), with the use of the CG possession in GP scale developed by Freitas and Odelius (2017) in combination with issues related to the AE contributions for the development of CG in GP.
Abstract: The purpose hereof was to identify relations between extracurricular activities (AE) and the possession of managerial competences (CG) in Brazilian research groups (GP), with the use of the CG possession in GP scale developed by Freitas and Odelius (2017) in combination with issues related to the AE contributions for the development of CG in GP. The electronic questionnaire applied to 528 participants and submitted to descriptive statistics, the Kendall-tau b correlation analysis, and the Kruskal-Wallis test allowed us to infer that: 1) participating in research groups, scientific initiations, university extensions, internships, general professional performances, volunteer works, and consulting projects are correlated with the CG possession in all of its dimensions; 2) participating in a junior company was not proven as capable to significantly affect the CG possession in GP; and 3) there are significant differences in the mastery of CG, depending on the role played in the GP, the type of institution, the wide-ranging area of knowledge, the educational level and the experience period with academic researches. Finally, we present our conclusions, limitations, and schedule for future researches.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyze the contributory capacity of experiential learning for EfS in an interdisciplinary initiative developed in management education and show that it can contribute to student development regarding critical thinking, systemic vision, future perspective, among others.
Abstract: Ceasing the reproduction of current social, environmental and economic problems requires a transformation of the way of approaching education and life, which highlights the importance of Education for Sustainability (EfS). When analyzing the training of management professionals, the importance of EfS becomes even higher, considering the impacts of their decisions on the environment and society. Thus, for EfS objectives to be achieved, new pedagogical proposals are needed, in this way EfS finds opportunities in constructivist epistemology learning approaches, such as Experiential Learning (EL). Thus, this research aims to analyze the contributory capacity of Experiential Learning for EfS in an interdisciplinary initiative developed in management education. Data were raised about an interdisciplinary initiative, composed of two disciplines (Interdisciplinary Project 1 and 2) and its relationship with EL, through interviews and the application of a questionnaire. The results indicate that by adopting EL as a background for the development of the initiative, it is possible to achieve the results sought by EfS. It can contribute to student development regarding critical thinking, systemic vision, future perspective, among others.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the assessment frameworks of Higher Education Institutions (HEI) used in Brazil and Austria in order to explore and show similarities and differences between the two models and contribute to the advancement of studies on the subject and reflections on value creation for the HEI stakeholders.
Abstract: This research analyzed the assessment frameworks of Higher Education Institutions (HEI) used in Brazil and Austria in order to explore and show similarities and differences between the two models — facing the value creation concepts related to intellectual capital and intangible assets —, as well as to contribute to the advancement of studies on the subject and reflections on value creation for the HEI stakeholders. The study was developed in the form of comparative research in which the documentary analysis of the artifacts of institutional and course assessment used in both countries was undertaken. The main points in common identified were as follows: mandatory by law; the encouragement of scientific, cultural, artistic, and technological production; the analysis of the professors’ professional experience and in HEI teaching; and social responsibility actions. Some of the main differences were the assessment of the professors' qualifications, the encouragement of courses and research in other countries, and the level of specificity in the indicators related to the actions of social inclusion and diversity. Findings and comparisons indicated that the Austrian HEIs more strongly portray items of Human Capital and Relational Capital, while in Brazil the focus of HEIs is on Structural Capital items with the disclosure of their resources and management practices.

TL;DR: In this article, a semi-structured interview with 16 corporate universities managers based in the state of Sao Paulo was conducted to verify how corporate universities promote education for sustainability among its employees and external stakeholders in order to integrate this theme into the organization strategies.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper to verify how corporate universities promote education for sustainability among its employees and external stakeholders in order to integrate this theme into the organization strategies. For this qualitative research, the data collection technique chosen was the semi-structured interview, performed with 16 corporate universities managers based in the state of Sao Paulo. Although, sustainability appears as a strategic component, in the organizational discourse, the results show that there are practically non-existent specific models and educational actions related to the theme. The barriers are the following: the lack of sustainability culture in the organizations and the concentration of the knowledge of this theme in specific sustainability departments. By assigning sustainability education initiatives to these departments, learning ends up being fragmented and punctual. As a result, hinders the appropriation of this knowledge in other organizational units and the inclusion of this theme into the strategy of the organizations researched. Thus, the main challenge founded is the construction of collaborative dialogue between corporate universities, sustainability areas and other organizational departments that could foster an effective learning process in organizations reconciling economic, environmental and social objectives.

TL;DR: In this article, a teaching case was designed from the scenario of the breaching of Samarco's dams, aiming to report the company's legitimacy before, during and after the event, relating it with the Theory of Legitimacy.
Abstract: This Teaching Case aims to help the understanding of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Administration, Accounting and other business areas on the survival of organizations in a dynamic environment. The proposal was designed from the scenario of the breaching of Samarco's dams, aiming to report the company's legitimacy before, during and after the event, relating it with the Theory of Legitimacy. Other theories can be used together in scenario analysis. The Teaching Case was built from news published in the media, scientific articles, annual reports and sustainability of the company, as well as on Samarco's website, from April to October 2018. The results of the application are expected. Case Studies allow students to understand the importance of legitimacy for maintaining the activities of organizations; the understanding of the different types of legitimacy techniques; and the appropriate time to apply each one. Furthermore, the study enables students to insert themselves in a context in which theoretical knowledge can be used to understand practical events; and, therefore, develop a critical analysis from the assumptions of the Theory of Legitimacy.

TL;DR: In this paper, a case for teaching in management challenges the traditional perspective that is dedicated to the cases of best practices and decisions faced by the managers in the managerial activities, and this case focuses on corporate practices that are detrimental to the environment, on factors that encourage companies to act in a criminal manner, and how those conditions can be altered.
Abstract: This case for teaching in management challenges the traditional perspective that is dedicated to the cases of best practices and decisions faced by the managers in the managerial activities. In this direction, the purpose of this teaching case is to provoke reflections and debate on the dark side of contemporary organizations, more specifically, on corporate crime. The case in point is the so-called “dieselgate”, a crime carried out by the German corporation Volkswagen, in the falsification of pollutant emissions results in diesel engines. Unlike teaching cases that stem from a manager's dilemma, this case focuses on corporate practices that are detrimental to the environment, on factors that encourage companies to act in a criminal manner, and how those conditions can be altered.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyze how innovation theories can be applied to identify the determinants of professor's behavior in the adoption of teaching technologies, methods and practices, seeking to identify new variables and constructs, for the development and expansion of theoretical models.
Abstract: The professor's behavior is still an emerging issue with few quantitative studies. The choices of technologies, methodologies and teaching practices of a professor affect both professors and learning of students, turning out to be an increasing interest in researches in many areas of education. The main objective of this research is to analyze how innovation theories can be applied to identify the determinants of professor’s behavior in the adoption of teaching technologies, methods and practices, seeking to identify new variables and constructs, for the development and expansion of theoretical models. This article begins with an explanation of base theories widespread in other areas of knowledge, Theory of Planned behavior (TPB), Theory of Diffusion of Innovation (IDT), the Technology of Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Decomposed Theory of Planned Behavior (DTPB), to understand the application in studies on professor’s behavior. There are some researches in various courses and levels of education to illustrate the application of these theories to identify the determinants of the use of technologies, methodologies and teaching practice by professors. These theories and models can be used to predict the adoption of new technologies as a platform for e-learning, teaching methods and practices such as active teaching methodologies and cross-cutting themes such as Sustainability.
