Abstract: Copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles are synthesized by aqueous precipitation method using copper acetate as a precursor and NaOH as a stabilizing agent. This gives a large scale production of CuO nanoparticles easily. X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD) reveals single phase monoclinic structure. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed the rectangular morphology of as prepared CuO nanoparticles. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed 5-6 nm size of as prepared CuO nanoparticles. Photoluminescence (PL) showed band edge emission at 398 nm and green emission at 527 nm. The band edge-absorption peak is found to be at 355 nm.

Abstract: The methanol, ethanol and aqueous extracts of seven medicinal plants were evaluated for activity against medically important bacteria such as Staphylococcus sp., Escherichia coli, Klebsiella sp., Pseudomonas sp. The invitro antimicrobial activity was performed by agar well diffusion method and disc diffusion method. antimicrobial activity was performed by agar well diffusion and disc diffusion method. The ethanolic and aqueous extracts showed minimum antimicrobial activity when compared to methanolic extracts. The methanolic extract Phyllanthus niruri (stone breaker) showed the maximum activity against Staphylococcus sp. The use of plant extracts with known antimicrobial properties, can be of great significance in therapeutic treatments.

Abstract: The presence of heavy metals in our environment has been of great concern because of their toxicity when their concentration is more than the permissible level. These metals enter in the environment by different ways like industrial activities etc. The fish samples Rahu (Labeo rohita), Tilapia (Tilapia zilli) and Catfish (Chrysichthys nigrodigatatus) were collected from Yamuna River in Delhi. In this study we have used Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) technique for determination of Al (Aluminum), B (Boron), Ba (Barium), Cd (Cadmium), Co (Cobalt), Cr (Chromium), Cu (Copper), Fe (Iron), K (Potassium), Mg (Magnesium), Mn (Manganese), Na (Sodium), Ni (Nickel), Pb (Lead), Sb (Antimony), Sn (Tin), Si (Silicon), P (Phosphorus) and Zn (Zinc) in different species of fish like Rahu, Tilapia and Catfish. The concentrations of Ca, K, Mg, Na and P are too high as compared with other metals as these metals were not in the maximum permissible level set by World Health Organization (WHO).
