TL;DR: The lower frequency of microorganisms and the smaller amount of bacteria in the intestinal content in infected hens than in uninfected show that A. galli has antibacterial properties.
Abstract: Parasitological dissections of 502 intestinal tracts of hens deriving from big private chicken-farms have been done. In the jejunum of 146 hosts (ext. 29.1%) from 1 to 21 individuals of A. galli were detected. Using bacterial selective media and biochemical tests, the microorganisms from the hen's intestinal tracts as well as from the cuticle surface of the nematodes were identified. Among them were: grampositive (+) Lactobacillus, Bacillus, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Micrococcus, Sarcina, Clostridium, Corynebacterium; gramnegative (-) Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas, Pasteurella, and fungi Candida and others. The lower frequency of microorganisms and the smaller amount of bacteria in the intestinal content in infected hens than in uninfected show that A. galli has antibacterial properties.

TL;DR: In the laboratory experiments, the virophoric period in D. marginatus ticks lasted 61 to 81 d, the premoulting period (nymphs - adults) amounted to 17 to 18 d, and the titres of individually examined females and males for the presence of TBE virus ranged from 10(1) to 10(5.5) ic mouse LD50/0.03 ml between the 14th and 29th day after hatching.
Abstract: In the laboratory experiments, the virophoric period in D. marginatus ticks lasted 61 to 81 d, the premoulting period (nymphs - adults) amounted to 17 to 18 d. The titres of individually examined females and males for the presence of TBE virus ranged from 10(1) to 10(5.5) ic mouse LD50/0.03 ml between the 14th and 29th day after hatching. In the laboratory experiments 77% of ticks were positive. In the field experiments, the virophoric period in D. marginatus ticks lasted 79 to 114 d, the premoulting period amounted to 34 to 38 d. The titres of individually examined adults for the presence of virus ranged from 10(1) to 10(5.5) ic mouse LD50/0.03 ml between the 13th and 80th day after hatching. In the field experiments 96.5% of ticks were positive.

TL;DR: Two random investigations carried out in 1981/1982 established 203 fleas of 5 species in a sex incidence of 1:2.4 on 48 dogs and confirm the fact that the range of species of fleas on dogs depends or the keeping conditions and the specific breed activity of the hosts.
Abstract: Two random investigations carried out in 1981/1982 established 203 fleas of 5 species in a sex incidence of 1:2.4 (60 males/143 females) on 48 dogs: Ctenocephalides felis occurred most frequently in an extent of infestation of 13 (1981) and 9 (1982) in 24 dogs with a population density of 1.1 to 1.9 specimens/animals, followed by C. canis with 8 (1981) and 11 (1982) from 24 dogs in a greater density of 2.3 to 5 per host. In this C. felis occurs more frequently in "town dogs": 15 identifications from Magdeburg and 3 from the county towns of Quedlinburg, Schonebeck and Burg as opposed to only 2 from country communities. Pulex irritans in an extent of infestation of 5 out of 24 dogs in 1982 reached a density of 5 per animal. The results confirm the fact that the range of species of fleas on dogs depends or the keeping conditions and the specific breed activity of the hosts.

TL;DR: The blood values of two fresh water fishes show changes when inhabited by Trypanosoma, showing marked variations in the normal and infected hosts which is correlated with the parasitemia.
Abstract: The blood values of two fresh water fishes, Clarias batrachus and Channa punctatus show changes when inhabited by Trypanosoma. Changes in TEC, TLC, DLC and Hb values are incorporated showing marked variations in the normal and infected hosts which is correlated with the parasitemia.

TL;DR: By using the newly developed semi-defined medium 4 as overlay and as monophasic medium high rates of growth were obtained similar to those obtained with known complex media, therefore, no further import of relevant substances is necessary.
Abstract: Due to the extended political, cultural and economic relations with tropical countries a good knowledge of tropical diseases is required. Since the direct parasitological diagnosis is superior to the serological one it seems logical to improve the culture conditions for laboratory diagnosis and for immunological and chemotherapeutical tests. Trypanosoma cruzi (Chagas) and Leishmania donovani (kala-azar) were tested in vitro. Enlargement of the culture surface at the same volume of the medium at 22 degrees C yielded an increase in the number of protozoa by 100%. When blood of different animal species was added to the medium, rabbit blood and that of other rodents such as rat and mouse showed the highest rate of growth. By using the newly developed semi-defined medium 4 as overlay and as monophasic medium high rates of growth were obtained similar to those obtained with known complex media. Therefore, no further import of relevant substances is necessary.

Journal Article
TL;DR: It is assumed that following the eradication of adult nematodes with anthelmintics activation of hypobiotic worm larvae occurred in the mucosa, and that the extensity of invasion with gastrointestinal nematode was higher in the treated cows than in the controls at the end of the experiments.
Abstract: Effect of Levamisole and Nilverm on gastrointestinal nematodes in cattle and on the milk yield. The effect of Levamisole--pure substance and the preparation Nilverm on the milk yield of cattle was experimentally tested, however, significant positive results were not recorded. Following Nilverm application and after the experiments had been terminated, t-test showed significant daily decrease (2.5 l) in milk yield in the treated animals when compared to the controls. This decrease was directly proportional to the resumed increase in the extensity of invasion with gastrointestinal nematodes recorded after the treatment had been terminated. Regarding that the possibility of reinvasion of animals in cow sheds could be excluded and that the extensity of invasion with gastrointestinal nematodes was higher in the treated cows than in the controls at the end of the experiments, we assume that following the eradication of adult nematodes with anthelmintics activation of hypobiotic worm larvae occurred in the mucosa.
