TL;DR: Though author collaboration exists in African Trypanosomiasis literature for the ten years studied, it is generally high but each year's literature is dominated by multiple authorship, and in all, two and three authored papers were predominant.
Abstract: Compares author collaboration in the periodical literature of African Trypanosomiasis. The study was based on the literature abstracted in the 1990- 2000 articles of Tropical Diseases Bulletin and Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Quarterly (TTQ) using the counting method. It is found that both the annual rates and the cumulation of author collaboration for the period for each of the ten years was high although the figures obtained for 1992- 1995 and 1998 -2000 were higher than those for 1990- 199 1 and 1996 - 1997. Concludes that though author collaboration exists in African Trypanosomiasis literature for the ten years studied, it is generally high but each year's literature is dominated by multiple authorship, and in all, two and three authored papers were predominant. The extent of collaboration was up to 11 authors per article, and this calls for more collaboration to extend the authorship beyond 11 authors per paper, as it is noted in other scientific disciplines. The study has provided factual information in support of information services in the field of African Trypanosomiasis literature.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors have studied the institutional distribution of research in Indian scientists from 1991 to 2000 and showed that India has potential of carrying out computer science research of international standard, however, major portion of these contributions, as per the analysis, comes from a few institutions.
Abstract: The study is based on 1408 research papers published in the international journals on computer s ciences contributed b y the Indian scientists from 1991 to 2 000. The institutional distribution of research has been studied. The scatter of literature is a two- way process controlled by number of institutions contributing literature and the number of journals publishing these contributions. However, major portion of these contributions, as per the analysis, comes from a few institutions, like IITs (located at Kharagpur, Kanpur, Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai), Indian Statistical Institute at Kolkata and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) at Bangalore. The study shows that India has potential of carrying out computer science research of international standard.

TL;DR: The conclusions speak of the future environment for biomedical librarians/information scientists/ information consultants, as existing services, resources provided to biomedical community are inadequate and insufficient to meet their demands.
Abstract: Biomedical information is critical to public health in general, and biomedical research and education in particular. Although some progress has been made to improve the biomedical information centres and libraries (ICLs) in India with the help of information technology (IT), there remain ICLs where concept of modern IT does not exist. Deals with the computer aspect in information technology. Furthermore, aims at developing a model of Indian Biomedical Information System using computer technology, its relationship with ICLs, users and professionals. Identifies Government of India (GOI) policies and programmes to promote and design IT based services. The study deals with seven objectives. Keeping these as main objectives, the research plan was drawn and multi-method approach employing field survey random sampling method and questionnaires as main instrument was adopted. However, interviews and indirect studies of records were adopted for collection and analysis of relevant data to supplement the data collected through questionnaires, so as to enhance, strengthen its reliability and gather some additional information on specific aspect of computer and ICLs, which were not obtained through questionnaires and literature searches. The conclusions speak of the future environment for biomedical librarians/information scientists/ information consultants, as existing services, resources provided to biomedical community are inadequate and insufficient to meet their demands.
