TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the scaling limit of the LERW process is conformally invariant in 2-dimensional space, and that the UST scaling limit is a topological tree.
Abstract: The uniform spanning tree (UST) and the loop-erased random walk (LERW) are related probabilistic processes. We consider the limits of these models on a fine grid in the plane, as the mesh goes to zero. Although the existence of scaling limits is still unproven, subsequential scaling limits can be defined in various ways, and do exist. We establish some basic a.s. properties of the subsequential scaling limits in the plane. It is proved that any LERW subsequential scaling limit is a simple path, and that the trunk of any UST subsequential scaling limit is a topological tree, which is dense in the plane. The scaling limits of these processes are conjectured to be conformally invariant in 2 dimensions. We make a precise statement of the conformal invariance conjecture for the LERW, and show that this conjecture implies an explicit construction of the scaling limit, as follows. Consider the Loewner differential equation ${\partial f\over\partial t} = z {\zeta(t)+z \over \zeta(t)-z} {\partial f\over\partial z}$ with boundary values $f(z,0)=z$, in the range $z\in\U=\{w\in\C\st |w|<1\}$, $t\le 0$. We choose $\zeta(t):= \B(-2t)$, where $\B(t)$ is Brownian motion on $\partial \U$ starting at a random-uniform point in $\partial \U$. Assuming the conformal invariance of the LERW scaling limit in the plane, we prove that the scaling limit of LERW from 0 to $\partial\U$ has the same law as that of the path $f(\zeta(t),t)$. We believe that a variation of this process gives the scaling limit of the boundary of macroscopic critical percolation clusters.

TL;DR: A tutorial on some basic nonasymptotic methods and concepts in random matrix theory can be found in this paper, where the reader can learn several tools for the analysis of the extreme singular values of random matrices with independent rows or columns.
Abstract: This is a tutorial on some basic non-asymptotic methods and concepts in random matrix theory. The reader will learn several tools for the analysis of the extreme singular values of random matrices with independent rows or columns. Many of these methods sprung off from the development of geometric functional analysis since the 1970's. They have applications in several fields, most notably in theoretical computer science, statistics and signal processing. A few basic applications are covered in this text, particularly for the problem of estimating covariance matrices in statistics and for validating probabilistic constructions of measurement matrices in compressed sensing. These notes are written particularly for graduate students and beginning researchers in different areas, including functional analysts, probabilists, theoretical statisticians, electrical engineers, and theoretical computer scientists.

TL;DR: In this paper, the limiting distribution of the largest eigenvalue of a complex Gaussian covariance matrix when both the number of samples and variables in each sample become large is studied.
Abstract: We compute the limiting distributions of the largest eigenvalue of a complex Gaussian sample covariance matrix when both the number of samples and the number of variables in each sample become large. When all but finitely many, say $r$, eigenvalues of the covariance matrix are the same, the dependence of the limiting distribution of the largest eigenvalue of the sample covariance matrix on those distinguished $r$ eigenvalues of the covariance matrix is completely characterized in terms of an infinite sequence of new distribution functions that generalize the Tracy-Widom distributions of the random matrix theory. Especially a phase transition phenomena is observed. Our results also apply to a last passage percolation model and a queuing model.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors introduce a nonlinear expectation generated by a heat equation with infinitesimal generator G. The G-standard normal distribution is introduced and the canonical process is a G-Brownian motion.
Abstract: We introduce a notion of nonlinear expectation --G--expectation-- generated by a nonlinear heat equation with infinitesimal generator G. We first discuss the notion of G-standard normal distribution. With this nonlinear distribution we can introduce our G-expectation under which the canonical process is a G--Brownian motion. We then establish the related stochastic calculus, especially stochastic integrals of Ito's type with respect to our G--Brownian motion and derive the related Ito's formula. We have also give the existence and uniqueness of stochastic differential equation under our G-expectation. As compared with our previous framework of g-expectations, the theory of G-expectation is intrinsic in the sense that it is not based on a given (linear) probability space.

TL;DR: In this paper, a new approach of sublinear expectation is introduced to deal with the problem of probability and distribution model uncertainty, and a new type of normal distributions and the related central limit theorem under sublinear expectations are presented.
Abstract: In this book, we introduce a new approach of sublinear expectation to deal with the problem of probability and distribution model uncertainty. We a new type of (robust) normal distributions and the related central limit theorem under sublinear expectation. We also present a new type of Brownian motion under sublinear expectations and the related stochastic calculus of Ito's type. The results provide robust tools for the problem of probability model uncertainty arising from financial risk management, statistics and stochastic controls.
