TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored behavioral processes involved in internet technology acceptance and use with a sample in India, a developing country that can potentially benefit from greater participation in the web economy.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore behavioral processes involved in internet technology acceptance and use with a sample in India, a developing country that can potentially benefit from greater participation in the web economy.Design/methodology/approach – User experience was incorporated into the technology acceptance model (TAM) and the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) to predict intentions to use the internet as well as self‐reported usage. Data were collected from 269 college students with a questionnaire methodology. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was applied to test each theory, as well as user experience, and the variables' interactive effects on the criterion of internet usage intentions.Findings – Both TAM and TPB were supported in their predictions of internet use intentions and usage. Although a main effect for user experience did not emerge, it did significantly interact with components of both theoretical models, suggesting that it has a complex influence on interne...

TL;DR: The scope of literature reviewed is extended to the theories and factors relating to different roles m‐ learning users have into consideration, namely, technology user, consumer and learner, in an attempt to offer a more complete understanding of m‐learning adoption.
Abstract: Purpose – By surveying current literature, the purposes of this paper are twofold: to identify current situation of mobile learning (m‐learning) adoption and specify the challenges and to identify the factors driving m‐learning adoption.Design/methodology/approach – The paper reviews literature related to: m‐learning applications and challenging issues and adoption researches on m‐learning and related topics. A reflection on the unique nature of m‐learning adoption building upon the literature reviewed contributes to a new conceptual model.Findings – Even if m‐learning is fast evolving, the review of literature reveals a challenge as to how to promote m‐learning adoption. In this light, the paper extends the scope of literature reviewed to the theories and factors relating to different roles m‐learning users have into consideration, namely, technology user, consumer and learner, in an attempt to offer a more complete understanding of m‐learning adoption. Insights are drawn from the proposed model.Practica...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore customer relationship management (CRM) in a higher education setting and examine the development and implementation of a CRM project in a state community college, as were the benefits realized by implementing CRM.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore customer relationship management (CRM) in a higher education setting.Design/methodology/approach – The development and implementation of a CRM project in a state community college was examined as were the benefits realized by implementing CRM. As colleges increasingly embrace distance learning and e‐business, CRM will become stronger and more pervasive. Viewing students as customers provides a competitive advantage for higher education and enhances a college's ability to attract, retain and serve its customers. Semi‐structured interviews were conducted with individuals involved with the planning, development and implementation of a statewide CIS system. Student support personnel were additionally interviewed.Findings – The benefits of implementing CRM in a college setting include a student‐centric focus, improved customer data and process management, increased student loyalty, retention and satisfaction with the college's programs and services.Research lim...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined pre-service teachers' self-reported intention to use technology by employing the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) as the research framework, and found that attitude toward usage and subjective norms were significant predictors of behavioral intention of using technology while perceived behavioral control was not.
Abstract: Purpose – This paper aims to examine pre‐service teachers' self‐reported intention to use technology by employing the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) as the research framework.Design/methodology/approach – In total, 157 student teachers completed a survey questionnaire measuring their responses to four constructs in the TPB. These were administered at the beginning of the course in which technology was taught and used. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used as the technique for data analysis.Findings – The results of this study showed that attitude toward usage and subjective norms were significant predictors of behavioral intention to use technology while perceived behavioral control was not. Overall, this study found that the three explanatory variables in the TPB explained about 40 percent of the variance in behavioral intention to use technology.Originality/value – This study contributes to the growing interests among researchers in using models to explain users' intention to use technology. Whi...

TL;DR: The use of electronic resources by students and faculty of Ashesi University, Ghana, is investigated in order to determine the level of use, the type of information accessed and the effectiveness of the library's communication tools for information research.
Abstract: Purpose – Sets out to investigate the use of electronic resources by students and faculty of Ashesi University, Ghana, in order to determine the level of use, the type of information accessed and the effectiveness of the library's communication tools for information research.Design/methodology/approach – A questionnaire‐based survey was utilized. It consisted of 16 questions to determine level of use, type of information accessed, assessment of library's communication tools, problems encountered when using electronic resources and ways to improve the provision of electronic information in the community. The questionnaire was distributed to all students, faculty and administrative staff in order to reduce the generalization of the results. The students were made up of four year groups categorized as YearGroupA, YearGroupB, YearGroupC, YearGroupD. The questionnaire was pre‐tested on six students from three different year groups and some amendments were made. A total of 169 questionnaires were therefore dist...
