TL;DR: In this article, the results obtained in the synthesis of thioamide and a-ketothioamides by a modification of the Willgerodt-Kindler reaction, under solvent-free and non-catalyst conditions using IR energy as a source of activation, are presented.
Abstract: In this paper, the results obtained in the synthesis of thioamides and a-ketothioamides by a modification of the Willgerodt-Kindler reaction, under solvent-free and noncatalyst conditions using IR energy as a source of activation, are presented. The use of IR energy in these reactions has been shown to lead to a mixture of thioamide and a-ketothioamide as the main products in most cases, with the latter predominating. The yields of a-ketothioamides from most of these reac- tions are better than those reported previously. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that IR energy has been applied to promote the Willgerodt-Kindler reaction.

TL;DR: In this paper, three kinds of nano-baskets including 1,2alternate and cone conformers of di-ionizable p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene-1,2-crown-3 were synthesized and the competitive solvent extractions of alkali and alkaline earth metal cations were studied.
Abstract: Three kinds of nano-baskets including 1,2-alternate and cone conformers of di-ionizable p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene-1,2-crown-3 and the cone conformer of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene-1,2-thiacrown-3 were synthesized and the competitive solvent extractions of alkali and alkaline earth metal cations were studied. The novelty of this study is including three binding units of the calixarene’s bowl, the crown ether’s ring, and electron-donor ionizable moieties in a unique scaffold, in which their sizes were selected based upon their complexation ability to show equal binding tendency towards the cations. The objective of this work is to assess the extraction efficiency, selectivity, and pH1/2 of such complexes. The results of solvent extraction experiments indicated that these compounds were effective extractants of alkali and alkaline earth metal cations. Their selectivities were greatly influenced by the acidity of the solution and the conformations of the calixcrown. One conformer was highly selective to Na+ and...

TL;DR: The synthesis of the pharmaceutical (R)-tolterodine is reported using lithiation/borylation-protodeboronation of a homoallyl carbamate as the key step and it was found that the latter arrangement was considerably better than the former.
Abstract: The synthesis of the pharmaceutical (R)-tolterodine is reported using lithiation/borylation-protodeboronation of a homoallyl carbamate as the key step. This step was tested with two permutations: an electron-neutral aryl Li-carbamate reacting with an electron-rich boronic ester and an electron-rich aryl Li-carbamate reacting with an electron-neutral boronic ester. It was found that the latter arrangement was considerably better than the former. Further improvements were achieved using magnesium bromide in methanol leading to a process that gave high yield and high enantioselectivity in the lithiation/borylation reaction. The key step was used in an efficient synthesis of (R)-tolterodine in a total of eight steps in a 30% overall yield and 90% ee.

TL;DR: In this article, the interaction strength of hydrogen-bonded complexes at the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level was analyzed in accordance with routine spectroscopy events, such as the red-and blue-shifts on the stretch frequencies of the proton donors (HF and HCF3).
Abstract: This work presents a theoretical study about the interaction strength of the hydrogen-bonded complexes C2H4O···HF, C3H6O···HF, C2H4O···HCF3, and C3H6O···HCF3 at the B3LYP/6–311++G(d,p) level. The structures, hydrogen bond energies, charge transfers, and dipole moments of these complexes were analyzed in accordance with routine spectroscopy events, such as the red- and blue-shifts on the stretch frequencies of the proton donors (HF and HCF3). The ChelpG atomic charges were used to quantify the charge-transfer fluxes from electron donor (O) towards to acceptors (HF or HCF3). Moreover, the topological calculations on the basis of the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) approach were also used to unveil the hydrogen bond strength (O···H), mainly in the determination of their electronic densities and Laplacian shapes.
