TL;DR: The sites of the extron "OK",extron 5 polymorphism of estrogen receptor geneβ may be associated with a susceptibility to adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and the height and the curve severity of patients.
Abstract: Objective To investigate the association of estrogen receptor β gene polymorphisms with susceptibility to adolescent idiopathic scoliosis Methods This study included 102 patients with AIS and 100 healthy controls Height, menarche status, curve pattern,Cobb angle, and Risser sign in female patients were recorded Blood samples were taken from each subject by venipuncture Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes using standard phenol/chloroform extraction PCR products from amplification of genomic DNA from all individuals were analysed using SSCP Mutation analysis were carried out for the samples with aberrant SSCP profiles and the polymorphic loci were analyzed by RFLP The χ2 test was used to determine the significant difference in genotype distribution between patients with AIS and the controls Results The frequency of CC genotype of the extron "OK",AA of the extron 5 were significantly higher in patients than that in controls (P 005) The C and A alleles appeared to be overrepresented in patients compared with controls (P 005) Furthermore, the frequencies of CC and AA genotypes in female patients whose height was≥160 cm and Cobb angle ≥30° were higher than those whose height was 160 cm and Cobb angle 30° (P 005) Conclusions The sites of the extron "OK",extron 5 polymorphism of estrogen receptor geneβ may be associated with a susceptibility of AIS Furthermore,The sites of the extron "OK" and extron 5 polymorphism may be associated with the height and the curve severity of patients

TL;DR: The reliability and validity of CARS, ABC and ATEC is so good that they are useful for clinical diagnosis of autism.
Abstract: Objective: To investigate the reliability, validity of the child autism rating scale (CARS), autism behavior checklist (ABC) and autism treatment evaluation checklist (ATEC). Methods: 43 outpatients (43 with autism, 31 with non-autism) were examined with CARS, ABC and ATEC, 31 non-autism were examined with CARS. Results: Cronbach′s α coefficients of CARS is 0.735; 15 items of CARS showed significance for differential diagnosis of autism (P 0.01); the correlation between the total score of CARS and its own 15 items ranged from 0.569 to 0.935; the coefficient between 15 itens ranged from 0.278 to 0.808, the correlation between the total score of CARS and ABC is 0.502, the correlation between total score of CARS and ABC 5 factors are 0.449, 0.420, 0.178, 0.328, 0.360, the correlation between the total score of CARS and ATEC were 0.572, the correlation between ATEC 4 subscales are 0.514, 0.412, 0.517, 0.245 respectively. Conclusions: The reliability and validity of CARS, ABC and ATEC is so good that they are useful for clinical diagnosis of autism.

TL;DR: Total enteral nutrition is better than total parenteral nutrition in prevention of pancreatic necrotic infection in severe acute pancreatitis.
Abstract: 【Objectives】 This study was designed to evaluate the effects of total enteral nutrition and total parenteral nutrition in prevention of pancreatic necrotic infection in severe acute pancreatitis.【Methods】 107 patients were enrolled in ICU between November 2003 and December 2007.In the first week of hospitalization,54 patients received total parenteral nutrition, and 53 received total enteral nutrition. All patients were concomitantly administered with sufficient prophylactic antibiotics.CT scan and C-reaction proteins indicated a similar clinical severity in both groups.【Results】 80% subjects developed organ failure in the group with total parenteral nutrition, which was significantly higher than that in the group with total enteral nutrition(21.00%);80.00% patients in total parenteral nutrition and 22.00%(P 0.05) in total enteral nutrition underwent the surgical intervention. The incidence of pancreatic septic necroses in the group with total enteral nutrition(23.00%) was significantly lower than that in the group with total parenteral nutrition(72.00%)(P 0.05).The mortality of patients(43.00%) on total parenteral nutrition was significantly increased as compared to 11.00%(P 0.05) in the group received total enteral nutrition.【Conclusion】 Total enteral nutrition is better than total parenteral nutrition in prevention of pancreatic necrotic infection in severe acute pancreatitis.

TL;DR: rAVV/HO-1 can be successfully transferred into donor kidneys, which can protect rat renal autografts from ischemia / reperfusion injury and increase HO enzymatic activity at 3 d and 7 d after transplantation.
Abstract: 【Objective】 To investigate the protective effect of heme oxygen-1(HO-1) gene transfer on rat autograft against ischemia/reperfusion injury【Methods】rAVV/HO-1 was constructedDonor Lewis rat kidneys were perfused with rAVV/HO-1(transplantation group,n =24) or PBS(control group,n =24),stored at 4℃ for 12 h,and transplanted orthotopically into Lewis rat recipients, followed by contralateral native nephrectomyPost-transplant serum creatinine, urine protein,HO-1 mRNA and protein expression, and HO enzymatic activity were analyzed with corresponding methods at 3 h,3 d and 7 d after transplantation【Results】In the gene transfer group HO-1 mRNA expression at 3 h,3 d and 7 d after transplantation was(055±013),(082±019) and(039±009),which was all significantly higher than that in the control group [(011 ±007),(010 ±009) and(009 ±003),separately,P 005)HO-1 protein could be detected in the gene transfer group at 3 h while no expression of HO-1protein was detected in the control group(P 005)HO-1 protein expression was significantly increased at 3 d and7 d after transplantation while the control group only exhibited weak expressionThe serum creatinine level at 7 dafter transplantation was(214±087) mg/dL in the gene transfer group and(733±231) mg/dL in the control group, the difference of both groups was significant(P 005)The urine protein at 7 d was higher in control group than thatin the experimental group [(510±123) μg/mL vs(1161±339) μg/mL,P 005)]Concomitantly,HO enzymaticactivity was increased at 3 d and 7 d after transplantation in the experimental group compared with that in thecontrol group(P 005)【Conclusion】rAVV/HO-1 can be successfully transferred into donor kidneys, which canprotect rat renal autografts from ischemia / reperfusion injury

TL;DR: E-test strip for detection metal-β-lactamas is the best phenotyptic confirming test of clinical laboratory method and modified Hodge test is the screening test for detecting metal- β- lactamase.
Abstract: 【Objective】The present study was undertaken to detect metallo-β-lactamase(MBL) in isolates of Klebsiella Pneumoniae by four different phenotypic methods,in order to find a phenotypic method which can be used as a convenient method in the clinical laboratory.【Methods】Seven isolates of Klebsiella Pneumoniae were treated with modified Hodge test, disk diffusion method,E-test strip for detection method and double disk synergy test to detect Metal-β-lactamase production, and the four methods were evaluated by contrasting test of PCR.【Results】 Metallo-β-lactamase was detected by four different methods.【Conclusion】E-test strip for detection metal-β-lactamas is the best phenotyptic confirming test of clinical laboratory method.Modified Hodge test is the screening test for detecting metal-β-lactamase.
