TL;DR: In this paper, five preservatives, based on different formulas of Ammoniacal copper quaternary (ACQ), were selected to treat bamboo to evaluate their performance of decay and leaching resistance.
Abstract: Five preservatives, based on different formulas of Ammoniacal copper quaternary(ACQ),were selected to treat bamboo to evaluate their performance of decay and leaching resistance. The result showed that ACQ-B and ACQ-D were the best for decay resistance while ACQ-C exhibited poor decay resistance, especially at low retention levels. It was observed that adding(NH4)2HPO4 to the typical ACQ preservative increased the toxicity to white rot(Potyporus versicolor Fr.),but had little influence to brown rot(Poria placenta Fr.).The five preservatives also demonstrated different performances in keeping the active ingredients in bamboo.ACQ-B and ACQ-B-P showed a higher preservative fixation rate while the others illustrated lower fixation rates.

Abstract: A plant trail of manufacturing medium density fiberboard(MDF) by using isocyanate resin in the production line was conducted in the Dongying Zhenghe Wood Industry Co.,Ltd.,Shandong,China.Compared with MDF made with commonly-used urea formaldehyde(OF) resin, the MDF panels made with isocyanate resin system demonstrated superior physical and mechanical properties.Furthermore, the average formaldehyde emission from the MDF panels made with the isocyanate resin, tested according to the National Standards GB/T 18580-2001 and Japan Standards JIS A 5905:2003,was 0.1 mg/L which is lower than the average maximum value(0.3 mg/L) required by both Chinese and Japanese standards. The low formaldehyde emission, and improved mechanical and physical properties, would add value to the MDF panels made with isocyanate resin and make them attractive for many applications.

TL;DR: A biocontrol method of using microbes to inhabit sapstain fungi grown on birch wood logs and two were found to be very effective to prevent all sapStain fungi.
Abstract: Sapstain fungi, which are a main cause for wood discoloration, reduce the value of logs, lumber and even the mechanical performance.Water immersion and chemical treatment are commonly-used methods to prevent sapstain fungi.A biocontrol method of using microbes to inhabit sapstain fungi was described in this paper. The microbes were developed from isolated sapstain fungi grown on birch wood logs(Betula platyphylla).A total of 42 biocontrol microbes were identified having antagonistic effects on sapstain fungi to certain degrees.Among them, two were found to be very effective to prevent all sapstain fungi. The results would provide help and guidance for future studies.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of resin application methods, resin content, hot-pressing temperature, and pressure in hot pressing poplar laminated veneer lumber (LVL) were investigated.
Abstract: Better understanding of heat transfer and resin curing during hot pressing will help optimize the wood composite manufacturing process in increasing productivity and improving product quality.Electrical-thermocouples were used in this study to investigate the effects of resin application methods, resin content,hot-pressing temperature, and pressure in hot-pressing poplar laminated veneer lumber(LVL).The results indicated that during the initial pressing stage, the internal temperature increased more rapidly by using a resin impregnation method than a resin spread method. It was found that higher resin content accelerated heat penetration towards the core. However, the resin content didn't significantly affect total hot-pressing time.

TL;DR: In this paper, the results showed that enzyme concentration and pretreatment duration had a significant effect on the surface bonding strength of wheat straw, and that higher enzyme concentrations and longer pretreatment will increase the surface bond strength.
Abstract: A thin layer of wax and inorganic silica on wheat straw surfaces has been known to be one of the major barriers in utilizing wheat straw for profitable and marketable composites.Enzyme pretreatments with Trichoderma sp.and Aspergillus niger were used in this study to improve surface wetability and bonding performance. The results showed that enzyme concentration and pretreatment duration had a significant effect on the surface bonding strength of wheat straw.Generally, higher enzyme concentration and longer pretreatment will increase the surface bonding strength.

TL;DR: In this paper, a kind of recycled polypropylene was selected as a raw material to make composite with wood fibers and the effect of polypropane content, additives, density, and fiber size on the performance of the wood-plastic composite was evaluated.
Abstract: A kind of recycled polypropylene was selected as a raw material to make composite with wood fibers. This study evaluated the effect of polypropylene content, additives, density, and fiber size on the performance of the wood-plastic composite. The result showed that increasing polypropylene content improved the overall board performance.Adding additional binders to the wood-plastic composite manufacturing process reinforced the fiber-bonding which could in turn enhance the board properties.Increasing the product's density was the most effective way to improve bending properties.Fiber geometry was also found to affect board bending properties. It was recommended the following process parameters: 40% recycled polypropylene,2% PAPI additive need to be used in making the wood-plastic composite with board density of 1.05 g/cm3.
