TL;DR: In this article, a variety of volatile organic compounds (VOC),released from bamboo flooring samples were monitored using auto thermal desorption (ATD) and gas chromatography/mass spectrum (GC/MS).
Abstract: A variety of volatile organic compounds ( VOC) ,released from bamboo flooring samples were monitored using auto thermal desorption ( ATD) and gas chromatography/mass spectrum ( GC/MS) . The double exponential attenuation model was used to fit these VOC releasing curves. The results showed that increasing the temperature greatly affected phase-one VOC emissions, dramatically increasing the initial emission rates. Increasing the humidity seemed to inhibit the VOC emissions at the beginning, but later increased VOC emissions in phase two.

TL;DR: In this paper, three kinds of aliphatic alcohols (1-dodecanol, 1-tetradecanol, and their mixtures) were selected as solvents to prepare a coloring agent for making thermochromic wood.
Abstract: Three kinds of aliphatic alcohols(1-dodecanol,1-tetradecanol,and their mixtures)were selected as solvents to prepare a coloring agent for making thermochromic wood. The colorimetric parameters of the thermochromic wood and the relationship between the solvents melting point and thermochromic properties of the wood were analyzed. The results showed thermochromic property differences existed among the thermochromic wood made with different solvents. The color-change temperature depended on the melting point of solvent. The wood made with solvent with lower melting point, such as 1-dodecanol or mixture of 1-dodecanol with 1-tetradecanol,could have color change at lower temperature.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of type and dosage of ultraviolet absorber (UV-531 and UV-326) were selected for treating thermochromic wood for improving light fastness.
Abstract: Light fastness is an important characteristic of thermochromic wood. The effects of type and dosage of ultraviolet absorber(UV-531 and UV-326)were selected for treating thermochromic wood. The results showed that both of the two ultraviolet absorbers could improve light fastness of the thermochromic wood.Different dosage of UVA had significant influence on the colorimetric parameters of thermochromic wood.UV-326 showed a better effect with optimum dosage of 1.6%.

TL;DR: In this paper, a scrimber was made of fibrosis veneer(Eucalyptus urophylla) with density from 0.85g/cm3 to 1.20g/mm3.
Abstract: A novel scrimber was made of fibrosis veneer(Eucalyptus urophylla)with density from 0.85g/cm3 to 1.20g/cm3.The results showed that the density had a positive effect on water resistance and mechanical properties of the scrimber. The properties tested were superior to solid wood and laminated veneer lumber made of the same materials.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of resin content on physical and mechanical properties of sliver plybamboo boards was investigated and the results showed that increasing resin content improved the board water resistance and internal bond strength performance, but increased the manufacturing cost as well.
Abstract: Moso bamboo was processed to produce sliver plybamboo via the continuing hot-press method at a higher temperature. The effect of resin content on physical and mechanical properties was investigated. The results showed that increasing resin content improved the board water resistance and internal bond strength performance, but increased the manufacturing cost as well. It was proposed that the optimal resin content was 7% ~8%.

TL;DR: Anatomical characteristics and mechanical properties of a bamboo scrimber with density from 12g/cm3 were investigated in this paper, and the results showed that the fiber and parenchyma cell damage degree was increased with the increasing of density.
Abstract: Anatomical characteristics and mechanical properties of bamboo scrimber with density from 08~12g/cm3 were investigatedThe results showed that the fiber and parenchyma cell damage degree was increased with the increasing of densityThe conducting and ground tissues were destroyed first, and then thin walled fibers, the thicken cell wall fibers retained integratedCompared to the original bamboo, radial dimension decreased, while the concentration of vascular bundle increasedThe bamboo scrimber showed improved water resistance, compressive strength and shear strength as the density increased

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used hydrothermal pretreatment to control the thickness and location of the compression layer of Chinese white poplar samples when they were hot-compressed.
Abstract: Hydro-thermal pretreatment was used to control the thickness and location of the compression layer of Chinese white poplar samples when they were hot-compressed.The results showed that with increasing pretreatment time, the depth and thickness of the compression layer were increased. Therefore, the modulus of rupture(MOR)and modulus of elasticity(MOE) of the samples were increased.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the effect of specimen thickness, initial moisture content and ambient temperature on preheating time of oak lumber and suggested that the suitable preheat ambient temperature is around 70 ℃.
Abstract: To reduce the energy consumption of wood drying and optimize drying process for oak ( Quercus mongolica) ,the authors studied the effect of specimen thickness, initial moisture content and ambient temperature on preheating time The results indicated that preheating time increased with specimen thickness in a non-linear relationship Preheating time decreased with increasing ambient temperature The initial moisture of the sample was found to have no obvious impact on preheating time They suggested that the suitable preheat ambient temperature is around 70 ℃; preheating time could be appropriately prolonged when the initial moisture content of oak lumber is below fibre saturation point

TL;DR: In this article, the authors made composite using crushed bamboo mat (Phyflostachys bambusoides) to investigate how board density affected physical and mechanical properties and what density would produce optimum performance.
Abstract: The authors made composite using crushed bamboo mat(Phyflostachys bambusoides) to investigate how board density affected physical and mechanical properties and what density would produce optimum performance. The results showed that increasing board density from 0.8 g/cm3 to 1.20 g/cm3 had a positive influence on the average width swelling, modulus of rupture(MOR),modulus of elasticity(MOE) and horizontal shear strength. However, the high overall board density exhibited negative impact on board thickness swelling.
