TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed literature regarding basic structural performance of Crosslaminated Timber (CLT), focusing on achievements in fire resistance, earthquake resistance and sound insulation performance fields.
Abstract: The authors reviewed literature regarding basic structural performance of Crosslaminated Timber(CLT),focusing on achievements in fire resistance, earthquake resistance and sound insulation performance fields. They also compared current situation of wood structure development between China and overseas as well as pointed out future prospects for a CLT system in China.Suggestions on development of CLT system in China were also presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, three kinds of modification solutions including a mixture of boric acid/borax(BB),melamine-urea-formaldehyde(MUF)resin and the mixture of MUF/boric acid/biax(MBB),were prepared and used to impregnate poplar wood.
Abstract: Three kinds of modification solutions including a mixture of boric acid/borax(BB),melamine-urea-formaldehyde(MUF)resin and the mixture of MUF/boric acid/borax(MBB),were prepared and used to impregnate poplar wood.Moisture absorption(MA),anti-swelling efficiency(ASE), modulus of elasticity in static bending(MOE), modulus of rupture(MOR)and combustion performances of the treated and control wood samples were all tested. Results showed that the MA reduced remarkably and the ASE,MOE and MOR increased significantly when the samples were treated with MUF or MBB.Combustion performance of the poplar wood treated with the three modification solutions were all improved to different degrees.Poplar wood treated with MBB was more effective compared with the other two modification treatments.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the relationship among bark content, defibrator energy consumption and fiber quality based on statistical data obtained from a fiberboard production line, and found that the amount of bark contained in the fiberboard used for packaging and flooring was 16% and 14% respectively.
Abstract: The authors analyzed the relationship among bark content, defibrator energy consumption and fiber quality based on statistical data obtained from a fiberboard production line. The results showed that defibrator energy consumption decreased and classification value increased at the beginning and then decreased as the ratio of bark to poplar decreased. For the fiberboard used for packaging and flooring, reasonable percentage of bark content was 16%and 14%,respectively,which ensured low production cost and higher fiber quality.

TL;DR: In order to develop thermal modification timber industry in China, it is necessary to learn more from the Europe by carrying out more cooperation among enterprises, research organizations and educational organizations and by promoting production standardization and quality certification as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The thermally modified timber industry has been well developed in Europe and a relatively matured industrial system has been built.Academic forces, enterprises and governments in Europe have made their own contributions to technology development, product manufacturing, standardization and quality certification toward advancing the thermal modification technology.Finnish Thermowood technology is one of the most successful examples in terms of technology industrialization. In order to develop thermal modification timber industry in China,it is necessary to learn more from the Europe by carrying out more cooperation among enterprises, research organizations and educational organizations and by promoting production standardization and quality certification.

TL;DR: In this article, eucalyptus and poplar veneers were used to make five-ply fire-retardant plywood, and the results showed that the bonding strength of both kinds of wood could meet the Chinese National Standard GB/T9846-2004 requirement for Ⅱ-level plywood.
Abstract: Eucalyptus and Poplar veneers, impregnated with a phosphorus-nitrogen-boron fire retardant solution, were used to make five-ply fire-retardant plywood, respectively.Physical, mechanical and fire-retardant properties were investigated. The results showed that bonding strength of both kinds of fire-retardant plywood could meet the Chinese National Standard GB/T9846-2004 requirement for Ⅱ-level plywood.Fire-retardant plywood made with eucalyptus wood showed better modulus of elasticity(MOE)and modulus of rupture(MOR),better fire-retardant properties, longer time to ignition and lower peak to heat release rate than fire-retardant plywood made with poplar wood.
