TL;DR: The impact of political risks on infrastructure projects under public-private partnership (PPP) schemes was investigated through an international survey among senior staff of international lenders, investors, insurers, and legal and financial advisors from the public and private sector as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Purpose – The paper aims to provide insight into the opportunities and impact of political risks in China and selected Asian countries on opportunities in infrastructure projects under public‐private partnership (PPP) schemes.Design/methodology/approach – The impact of political risks on PPPs was investigated through an international survey among senior staff of international lenders, investors, insurers, and legal and financial advisors from the public and private sector. The surveyed political risk categories base on the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency Convention and literature review. They comprise six categories: currency inconvertibility and transfer restriction, expropriation, breach of contract, political violence, legal, regulatory and bureaucratic risks, and non‐governmental action risks. The survey evaluation uses fuzzy sets and non‐parametric statistics.Findings – The findings comprise rankings of political risk factors within China and Asian countries as well as rankings of these coun...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the impact of customer loyalty programs on relationship quality, relationship commitment, and loyalty in a survey with 480 qualified observations from department store customers in Taiwan.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to measure the impact of customer loyalty programs on relationship quality, relationship commitment, and loyalty.Design/methodology/approach – A survey with 480 qualified observations from department store customers in Taiwan was conducted. A structural equation modeling approach was used.Findings – Customer loyalty programs have a partially supported positive impact on relationship quality; service quality has a positive impact on relationship quality; customers with a positive relationship quality impact their relationship commitment; the higher the relationship commitment, the higher the loyalty; and a customer loyalty program partially supports a positive impact on loyalty.Originality/value – The paper shows that customer loyalty programs have positive influences on loyalty. However, short‐term customer loyalty programs, namely, Minimum Purchase Gift Cards, displayed no significant influence on loyalty. The incentive of short‐term customer loyalty programs is not...

TL;DR: In this article, a causal model is developed to hypothesize how personality trait affects job performance and satisfaction and how job performances and satisfaction simultaneously affect each other, and the theoretical model is empirically validated using data collected.
Abstract: Purpose – This paper aims to test the relationships among three important variables in the management of Chinese employees: personality trait, job performance and job satisfaction. A causal model is developed to hypothesize how personality trait affects job performance and satisfaction and how job performance and satisfaction simultaneously affect each other. Design/methodology/approach – The survey was conducted from October to November 2009. In total, 414 questionnaires were distributed and 392 were returned. Using data collected, the theoretical model is empirically validated. Structural equation modelling using LISREL 8.8 is used to test the causal model. Findings – Job performance and job satisfaction have a bilateral relationship that is simultaneously influential. All Big Five personality traits significantly influence job performance, with agreeableness showing the greatest effect, followed by extraversion. Extraversion is the only personality trait that shows a significant influence over job sati...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore knowledge sharing in a Chinese context and examine the impact of some key contextual factors that affect knowledge sharing within project teams in the Chinese construction sector in a self-administered questionnaires were used in this study.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore knowledge sharing in a Chinese context and to examine the impact of some key contextual factors that affect knowledge sharing within project teams in the Chinese construction sector.Design/methodology/approach – Self‐administered questionnaires were used in this study. Data were collected by surveying 222 managerial employees from different project teams in the construction sector in China. Regression analysis was then used to explore the relationship between different factors and the willingness to share knowledge. The potential influence of Chinese traditional cultures on this relationship was also explored.Findings – This paper shows that within the Chinese context, explicit knowledge promotes knowledge sharing while tacit knowledge creates barriers to knowledge sharing in project teams. Moreover, trust is positively related to knowledge sharing but justice, leadership style, and empowerment do not influence whether employees will share knowledge among ...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigate the relationship between organizational structure and performance, especially through organizational learning and innovation, based on evidence from Austria and China, and find that organizational structure has more effects on organizational learning than on innovation.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between organizational structure and performance, especially through organizational learning and innovation, based on evidence from Austria and China.Design/methodology/approach – Based on the literature and hypothesis, a theoretical, conceptual and structural equation model is set up through a questionnaire survey and sample of about 90 Austrian and 71 Chinese samples. Partial least squares were used in the analysis and the results are tested by bootstrap methods.Findings – The findings reinforce the important infrastructure position of organizational structure on performance. First, organizational structure has more effects on organizational learning than on innovation, organizational learning has an indirect effect on performance through innovation, except the direct effect of structure on performance. Second, managers in Austria think structure has a more important effect on performance; both managerial and technical innovation inf...
