Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In the case of the Romualdo Member of the Santana Formation Konservat Lagerstatten of north-east Brazil, it was first dated as Cretaceous by Agassiz on the basis of fish fossils obtained by Bavarian explorers Spix and Martius between 1817 and 1820 as discussed by the authors.

88 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: A quarry within the Cedar Mountain Formation in Mussentuchit Wash, Emery County, Utah, produced a fossil assemblage containing the remains of at least eight juvenile iguanodontid dinosaurs (Eolambia caroljonesa) as discussed by the authors.

76 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a regional correlation scheme has been obtained between seven sections from Arizona to Kansas and northwards to South Dakota, showing that the last occurrences of the planktonic foraminiferid Rotalipora cushmani as well as the first occurrence of Helvetoglobotruncana helvetica are strongly diachronous, the Whiteinella archaeocretacea Partial Range Zone, in which the Cenomaniane Turonian boundary is located, being reduced to almost nothing.

66 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the results of detailed microfaunal and nannofloral analyses of the Seaford Head section of Sussex, southern England, are summarised and calibrated with the macrofauna recovery and detailed lithostratigraphy, and compared with results from comparative sections on the Isle of Wight and in Kent, Norfolk, Germany and the North Sea basin.

65 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The presence of the Jurassic element Yimaia supports the opinion of some invertebrate palaeontologists that the Daohugou bed is of Jurassic (most probably mid Jurassic) age.

64 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, three new records of insect pupation chambers are reported from two localities in the Cretaceous Chubut Group of Patagonia, Argentina: from Sierra Nevada, a new and older ichnospecies of Rebuffoichnus, R. sciuttoi isp. nov, interpreted originally as a coleopteran pupation chamber, has a thickly constructed wall composed of two layers of soil material, showing redistribution of clay and orientation of long grains.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Foraminiferal and nannofossil analyses indicate that sediment deposition during the late Maastrichtian (zones CF4-CF2, N. frequens) occurred in relatively shallow middle neritic depths with largely dysaerobic bottom waters (abundant low O2 tolerant benthics) and fluctuating sea level.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, new palaeomagnetic and 40 Ar/39 Ar dating was carried out on the volcanic rocks and interbedded fossil-bearing lake sediments at the Sihetun section (northeast China) to determine the duration of deposition of the lacustrine sediments.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Gegepterus changi is diagnosed by several unique features and has cervical vertebrae that combine primitive and derived features that have not been recorded in any member of Archaeopterodactyloidea so far, thus making it the first uncontroversial member of this pterosaur clade in the Jehol Group.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Pseudomorphs after hopper-faced halite occur at several horizons and in five distinctive morphologies in carbonate dominated members of the Late Aptian-Early Albian Crato Formation of the Araripe Basin in northeast Brazil.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, two facies associations are recognized within the sedimentary Lujiatun and Jianshangou units: a volcanic-lastic apron association in the Sihetun area, and a lake association in Jianhangou unit, which is composed of debris flow, hyper-concentrated flood-flow and lahar deposits.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Yanjiestheria (Y. bellula) is a junior synonym of Eosestheria as discussed by the authors, indicating that it cannot have descended from the latter, rather the two genera must have evolved in parallel.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a systematic account of the fauna from the early Middle Cenomanian Praeactinocamax primus Event, a 50-60 cm-thick marl bed, at the type locality, Wunstorf quarry, to the west of Hannover (northern Germany), is given.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, twenty one ichnogenera and 30 ichnospecies are recognized in the Late Campanian-Maastrichtian Monte Antola Formation of Italy, most of them for the first time.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the lower Yixian Formation at the locality of Sihetun in western Liaoning Province, northeast China, has yielded palynomorph assemblages that are dominated by gymnosperm pollen.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The interval studied comprises a 45m-thick section of uppermost Coniacian and lower Santonian strata, and more than 30 planktonic foraminiferal species were recorded as discussed by the authors.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured from foredeep deposits of the Kirazbasi Complex in this area yielded rich radiolarian faunas, both from the matrix and from the blocks.
