TL;DR: The authors report the empirical performance of Gallager's low density parity check codes on Gaussian channels, showing that performance substantially better than that of standard convolutional and concatenated codes can be achieved.
Abstract: The authors report the empirical performance of Gallager's low density parity check codes on Gaussian channels. They show that performance substantially better than that of standard convolutional and concatenated codes can be achieved; indeed the performance is almost as close to the Shannon limit as that of turbo codes.

TL;DR: Using this joint space-time approach, spectral efficiencies ranging from 20-40 bit/s/Hz have been demonstrated in the laboratory under flat fading conditions at indoor fading rates.
Abstract: The signal detection algorithm of the vertical BLAST (Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time) wireless communications architecture is briefly described. Using this joint space-time approach, spectral efficiencies ranging from 20-40 bit/s/Hz have been demonstrated in the laboratory under flat fading conditions at indoor fading rates. Early results are presented.

TL;DR: A method for the reduction of peak-to-average transmit power ratio of multicarrier modulation systems, called selected mapping, is presented, which is appropriate for a wide range of applications.
Abstract: The authors propose a method for the reduction of peak-to-average transmit power ratio of multicarrier modulation systems, called selected mapping, is presented, which is appropriate for a wide range of applications. Significant gains can be achieved by selected mapping whereas complexity remains quite moderate.

TL;DR: In this article, a simple autocorrelation model for shadow fading in mobile radio channels is proposed, which is fitted to both large cells and microcells, and results show that the model fit is good for large to medium cells.

TL;DR: Experimental data are presented that clearly demonstrate the scope of application of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) as a video quality metric and it is shown that as long as the video content and the codec type are not changed, PSNR is a valid quality measure.
Abstract: Experimental data are presented that clearly demonstrate the scope of application of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) as a video quality metric. It is shown that as long as the video content and the codec type are not changed, PSNR is a valid quality measure. However, when the content is changed, correlation between subjective quality and PSNR is highly reduced. Hence PSNR cannot be a reliable method for assessing the video quality across different video contents.
