TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyze the land market imperfec-tions and their effect on spatial segregation and use a spatial approach through the construction of socio-spatial segregation and infrastructure deficit indexes.
Abstract: The objective of this article is to analyze the land market imperfec-tions and their effect on spatial segregation It uses a spatial approach through the construction of socio-spatial segregation and infrastructure deficit indexes The principal component element was used to estimate the socio-spatial in-dexes at the AGEB scale The data used to calculate the indexes was obtained from the XII Population and Housing Census at census tracts level The result show that the city suffers from spatial segregation caused mainly by land market imperfections The land market is not able to ensure an adequate supply at affordable prices and as a result, the biggest sufferers have been the urban poor The lack of access to urban land has pushed low income inhabitants to the outer limits of the urban core: low value areas without public infrastructure

TL;DR: In this paper, an interpretative model is proposed to be used from an interdisciplinary perspective when undertaking international border studies, inspired by the theory of social dynamic fields (Sztompka, 1995), which is articulated in four basic dimensions: ideational, normative, materialist and agentive.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose an interpretative model to be used from an interdisciplinary perspective when undertaking international border studies. Inspired by the theory of social dynamic fields (Sztompka, 1995), this model is articulated in four basic dimensions: ideational, normative, materialist and agentive. The model is both dynamic and interactive; it presupposes the existence of multiple and complex relationships among the four field dimensions, as well as a certain degree of autonomy in each one. The model is also governed by two fundamental vectors: space and time. The spatial dimension refers to the physical and material base, as well as the territorial, and to other aspects such as the psychological apprehension of space and of imaginary space. It its temporal, or historical, dimension, we consider the model to be in constant evolution, on an oneness basis, to the extent that it can be studied as a social fact. We stress the need to construct an eclectic methodology in order to reach a balanced conjunction among various aspects: the tangible and intangible, quantitative and qualitative, interpretive and comprehensive singular and shared, functional and rational-critical.

TL;DR: In this paper, the spatial inequalities in the regional socioeconomic development of Sonora were analyzed and a statistical model was designed and it resorts to the technique of the factorial analysis of main components which allows to estimate a municipal socioeconomic development index (IDSEM) for year 2000, which makes evident the geographic concentration of the regional development in Sonora.
Abstract: This work analyzes the spatial inequalities in the regional socioeconomic development of Sonora. In order to do so, a statistical model is designed and it resorts to the technique of the factorial analysis of main components which allows to estimate a Municipal Socioeconomic Development Index (IDSEM) for year 2000, which makes evident the geographic concentration of the regional development in Sonora. An econometric model was specified as well, that allowed to identify the factors that prevent or stimulate the socioeconomic development of the population in the municipalities of the State.

TL;DR: An epistemological analysis of present and/or future scientific practices is proposed in order to redefine those parameters that prevent their identification with the eugenic movement of the past century.
Abstract: Until now, the parameters that distinguish the current eugenic practices form those encased in classic eugenics have been the private, individual and therapeutic characteristics of the first as opposed to the collective, coercive and improvement nature of the second. However, the present ethical debate over biotechnologies (particularly, criticism of liberal eugenics by such authors as Jurgen Habermas) has given rise to the need to consider, in the future, genetic treatment as an object of the redistribution in order to avoid the discrimination implied in the impossibility of access to such treatment. The present paper attempts to show that this pretension would lead to the future dissolution of those very characteristics of current eugenics that distinguish it from the classic form. we therefore propose an epistemological analysis of present and/or future scientific practices in order to redefine those parameters that prevent their identification with the eugenic movement of the past century.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an adaptation of the cost-of-living index theory to the situation, and on the other hand, the estimates show that the advantages of living on the border were really significant in the last decade.
Abstract: The consumers that live near the border Uruguay-Brazil have the possibility of buying goods on both sides of such border. They may replace purchases of one country to the other according to the evolution of prices. In this way, consumers have a lower cost of living compared to the consumers living in the rest of the country. Besides, if the real bilateral exchange rate undergoes important fluctuations, they may take significant advantage of their location. This paper deals with the issue from a theoretical and empirical point of view. On one hand, it presents an adaptation of the cost-of-living index theory to the situation, and on the other hand, the estimates show that the advantages of living on the border were really significant in the last decade.

TL;DR: In this paper, the conditions and tendencies of productive development of the agricultural region in the Valley of Mexicali, Baja California, during the period between 1983 and 2001, as a means of approach to the conditions of the region´s agricultural development.
Abstract: The intention of this article is to show the conditions and tendencies of productive development of the agricultural region in the Valley of Mexicali, Baja California, during the period between 1983 and 2001, as a means of approach to the conditions of the region´s agricultural development. The objetivem is derived from the hypothesis that productive agricultural activity in the region has behaved erratically, showing a tendency toward stagnation. Under such circumstances, productive development is taken as the point of departure to analyze the behavior of agricultural activity through the construction of a tendency analysis using six indicators: harvested surface, physical and economic productivity of the principal crops, production volume and value, and productive diversification. In order to carry out this analytical exercise, two statistical instruments were used: time series analysis, with a polynomial regression function, and a Gini index estimation. The results obtained showed stagnation and a discouraging evolution, in general, of the region´s productive agricultural activity.

Abstract: This dissertation tries to make an analysis about phenomenons of violence in the region of Risaralda and your capital Pereira. The established reflection is made by means of a historical view, a violence characterization and some of your causal explanations, a reflection where the main reference is the territory and your manifold scenes that conjugate actors crossing, interests and territorial dominions, besides, a migratory process by violence (displacement by violence) that materializes the sequels of conflict, and finally, by means of a local view that recognizes in the globalized societies, new non regulated scenes of conflict by the state-nation. This analysis permits to recognize the territorial topics of control and dominion and it identifies some of the structural explanations that show continuities and discontinuities that have an effect on population of the region in a differentiated way. The reflection provokes new questions to guide next investigations in the region.

TL;DR: The analysis of alternative experiences to tackle massive school failure in the surrounding urban areas of Buenos Aires has been conducted in this paper, where two categories were considered relevant as a means to analyzing the complexity that characterises present-day state school institutions in the Great Buenos Aires area.
Abstract: The present paper has been written within the framework of a project called "Analysis of alternative experiences to tackle massive school failure in the surrounding urban areas of Buenos Aires". Two categories were considered relevant as a means to analyzing the complexity that characterises present-day state school institutions in the Great Buenos Aires area. The paper intends to reflect on the concept and meanings of border in social sciences, emphasizing its potential to better understand the practices that take place in state schools. The other category analysed is that of "school-family alliance", in order to understand its development during the last decades in view of the extreme poverty that permeates the area studied.
