Abstract: First, we review some previous work on networked control systems (NCSs) and offer some improvements. Then, we summarize the fundamental issues in NCSs and examine them with different underlying network-scheduling protocols. We present NCS models with network-induced delay and analyze their stability using stability regions and a hybrid systems technique. Following that, we discuss methods to compensate network-induced delay and present experimental results over a physical network. Then, we model NCSs with packet dropout and multiple-packet transmission as asynchronous dynamical systems and analyze their stability. Finally, we present our conclusions. more

Abstract: By a switched system, we mean a hybrid dynamical system consisting of a family of continuous-time subsystems and a rule that orchestrates the switching between them. The article surveys developments in three basic problems regarding stability and design of switched systems. These problems are: stability for arbitrary switching sequences, stability for certain useful classes of switching sequences, and construction of stabilizing switching sequences. We also provide motivation for studying these problems by discussing how they arise in connection with various questions of interest in control theory and applications. more

Abstract: We explain the biology and physics underlying the chemotactic (foraging) behavior of E. coli bacteria. We explain a variety of bacterial swarming and social foraging behaviors and discuss the control system on the E. coli that dictates how foraging should proceed. Next, a computer program that emulates the distributed optimization process represented by the activity of social bacterial foraging is presented. To illustrate its operation, we apply it to a simple multiple-extremum function minimization problem and briefly discuss its relationship to some existing optimization algorithms. The article closes with a brief discussion on the potential uses of biomimicry of social foraging to develop adaptive controllers and cooperative control strategies for autonomous vehicles. For this, we provide some basic ideas and invite the reader to explore the concepts further. more

Indeed, the maturing field of ILC includes many results and learning algorithms beyond the scope of this survey.
