The influences of Xuebijing (血必净) on the expression of human leukocyte antigenDR on monocytes in patients with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome

Abstract: Objective:To observe the change of immunity functions in early stage in patients with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome(MODS) and the curative efficacy of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine(TCM WM) treatment.Methods:The expression of human leukocyte antigenDR(HLADR) on monocytes were measured by the immunofluorescence technique in 28 patients with MODS induced by severe trauma and infection.The changes of expression of HLADR on monocytes after treatment with Xuebijing(? 鼐?were also studied.Results:The expression of HLADR on monocytes in severe trauma and infection patients with MODS was significantly lower than those in patients without MODS and health controls( P 0 05 or P 0 01),level of HLADR on monocytes in patients treated with TCM WM was higher than that in patients without TCM WM treatment.Conclusions:The results indicate that the inflammatory cytokines are produced and released,the expression of HLA on monocyte decreases and the immunity is inhibited in early stage in patients with MODS.Treatment with Xuebijing(? 鼐? can improve immunity functions of MODS.

Clinical and experimental study on effect of Wuzi Yanzong pill(五子衍宗丸) on oxidative damage of mitochondrial DNA in aging

Abstract: Objective:To investigate the effect of Wuzi Yanzong pill(WZYZP,五字衍宗丸) and its disassembled prescription on mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA) deletions,respiratory chain complexes and ATP synthesis.Methods:Thirtyeight aged men with symptoms of senility due to deficiency syndrome of the kidney,but otherwise healthy,were randomly divided into two groups:one group was treated with WZYZP and the other with a placebo,each for three months,a singleblind method was used.mtDNA deletions,respiratory chain complexes and ATP synthesis were determined with polymerase chain reaction(PCR),enzyme kinetics and bioluminescence technique respectively.Results:WZYZP could reduce the mtDNA deletions and raise the activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes Ⅰ,Ⅳ in aged men of periphery blood leukocytes.WZYZP and its disassembled prescription of Fructus Lycii(Wolfberry Fruit,枸杞子) and Semen Cusuctae(Dodder Seed,菟丝子)could reduce the mitochondrial DNA deletions and raise the activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes Ⅰ,Ⅳ and ATP synthesis in aged rat brain.Conclusions:WZYZP have protective effect on oxidative damage of mtDNA in aged men and aged rats.

Observation on curative effects of puerarin injection on unstable angina pectoris

Abstract: Objective:To observe the clinically curative effects of puerarin injection on unstable angina pectoris (UAP).Methods:74 cases with UAP were randomly divided into two groups.The control group ( n =36) was treated with conventional therapy,including dilating coronary arteries,anticoagulation and so on,otherwise in puerarin group based on conventional therapy of western medicine as control group the puerarin injection 400 mg + 5% glucose 500 ml infused intravenously once a day were added.10 days was a therapeutic course for two groups.After two therapeutic courses the curative effects were observed.The changes in seizure frequency of angina pectoris,electrocardiogram on rest,parameters of blood rheology,and dosage of nitroglycerin used in two group before and after therapy were compared.Results:In puerarin group the total effective rate( 89 5% ),the average time for angina pectoris to control(5.6 days),the improvements of abnormal electrocardiogram and blood rheology parameters,and the aspects of decreasing dosage of nitroglycerin 〔(0 45±0 15)mg/d〕and so on were superior to those in control group 〔61 1%,8.9 days,(1 25±0 19)mg/d,all P 0 05〕.Conclusions:The curative effects of puerarin in treating UAP were better than those of conventional therapy of western medicine.

The effects of rhubarb on the function of mitochondria of hepatic cell in posttrauma sepsis

Abstract: Objective:To investigate the effects of rhubarb on the function of mitochondria of hepatic cell in posttrauma sepsis.Methods:One hundred and eight SD rats with 25% Ⅲdegree burns on back hit by endotoxin at a dose of 20 mg/kg 12 hours after the burn injury.Mitochondria was isolated from the hepatic cells.The level of ATP,cytochrome C,and energy charge in hepatic cells were applied to evaluate the function of mitochondria.Results:The level of ATP,cytochrome C,and energy charge in hepatic cells was decreased after burn injury,and deteriorated further after the second hit by endotoxin on a time manner.There were significant differences compared to the controls (all P 0 001).However,rhubarb could obviously increase the level of ATP,cytochrome C and energy charge in hepatic mitochondria,the differences were significant compared to the burn and septic group (all P 0 001).Conclusions:Burn injury and the postburn sepsis,hit by endotoxin,can damage the function of mitochondria in hepatic cells.Whereas,rhubarb obviously improved the mitochondrial respiration of hepatic cells in the postburn sepsis.

Observation on curative effects of astragalus injection combined with glucocorticoid on acutely severe viral myocarditis

Abstract: Objective:To observe the curative effects of astragalus injection combined with glucocorticoid on acutely severe viral myocarditis (ASVM).Methods:62 cases were randomly divided into control group ( n =30) and treatment group ( n =32).The control group was treated with conventional therapy of western medicine otherwise the treatment group based on the same therapy as control group treated with astragalus injection combined with glucocorticoid.After four weeks therapy the judgements of curative effects were carried out.Results:In all the aspects of improving clinical symptoms,electrocardiogram,and left ventricular functions the treatment group was superior to control group (all P 0 05).Conclusions:The treatment with astragalus injection combined with glucocorticoid for acutely severe viral myocarditis is able to increase the clinically curative effects,regulate the immune functions of body,protect the myocardial cells infected by virus,stabilize the structure of celullar membrane,enhance the contractive force of left ventricle,and to increase the cardiac output (CO).It is an effectively therapeutic method.
