Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the problem of natural convection about a cone embedded in a porous medium at high Rayleigh numbers is analyzed based on the boundary layer approximation and the Darcy's law.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of uniform surface mass transfer on the buoyancy-induced flow in a porous medium adjacent to a horizontal heated surface with a power law variation of wall temperature, Twαxλ, is considered.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the problem of conjugate heat transfer from rectangular fin is treated numerically and the results indicated great effects of both CCP and Pr. Comparisons with the simple conventional fin theory show that concerning the fin efficiency, the simple theory yields acceptable results while the temperature variation and local heat flux distributions are not correctly predicted.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that plate heat exchangers with approximately sinusoidal corrugations have limited design flexibility since the channels for the two heat exchanging streams are generally geometrically identical.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, an analysis of the unsteady flow through a porous medium bounded by an infinite vertical plate is considered, where the free stream velocity and the temperature in free stream are considered constant and temperature of the plate varies with the time about a nonzero constant.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, it is concluded that the height of the phase change material is not appropriate as length scale in the governing dimensionless parameters, and that it is not suitable for melting from a vertical wall.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a stiffness parameter is introduced in the reaction term to vary the stiffness of the Fisher's equation, and the results indicate that the Crank-Nicolson formulation is better than the standard implicit formulation, and that the predictor-corrector explicit method is more effective than the CPN implicit method.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, an experimental investigation of heat transfer and pressure drop from a new type of corrugated channels is presented, and it is suggested that the corrugation height and length should be altered in order to balance the increases in heat transfer.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a simple transient model using an unsteady state continuity equation and a quasi steady momentum equation is used to analyse the stability of co-current and counter-current annular flows.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examine the problem of numerical solutions to the classical Graetz problem in the entrance region of pipes and attempt to provide plausible explanation for the discrepancy in the Nusselt number.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the bubble growth rate in an electric field using the heat diffusion controlled growth model and found that bubbles should grow faster in a uniform electric field, which results in a larger surface area to volume ratio for a given bubble size and more efficient heat transfer from a superheated liquid to the bubbles during nucleate boiling.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the nonsimilar and self-similar flows for the steady natural convection over a vertical heated surface in a saturated porous medium with mass transfer using non-Darcy model have been studied under boundary layer approximations.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a numerical analysis of fully developed, laminar, mixed convection in horizontal tubes with two vertically oriented fin is presented, and it is shown that fin height increases with the Grashof number and relative fin height.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the thermal expansion coefficient (Beta) for water for pressure of 0.1 to 50 MPa and temperatures from 0 to 600°C was presented for one atmosphere and one bar for a temperature range of 0 to 100°C.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors rely on linear stability analysis to define the parametric domain in which convective motions exist in a horizontal unstably stratified porous layer, and they focus on the combined effect of three distinct factors on the onset of convection: the presence of a second diffusing component (in addition to heat), internal heat generation in the porous medium and the departure from the Darcy model of flow in porous medium by using Brinkman's modification of Darcy's law.

TL;DR: In this paper, a new method for tracking the solid-liquid interface is proposed to obtain the wall temperature of a vertical tube as a function of time using the experimental data for the tube wall temperature, the governing equation, initial and boundary conditions for the solidified layer are transformed into an equivalent optimization problem.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that significant heat transfer enhancement is possible by appropriately tuned modulation of a steady, separated flow, suggesting that a simple resonance phenomenon is responsible for the transport augmentation.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the heat balance integral technique is used to solve the problem of thermal cooling of a plate by a combination of thermal radiation and free or forced convection, which is a commonly occurring process for which no analytical solution exists.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a predictive analogy of turbulent mass transfer across wavy, sheared air-water interface, in deep water bodies is proposed, based on the formulation of a theoretical eddy diffusivity profile in the surface region.
