Abstract: SYNOPSIS A group of promising phase change heat-storage materials was selected through study of the literature, laboratory tests of freeze—melt behaviour and determination of thermophysical properties. Means were developed of encapsulating these materials in metal or plastic containers. Four of these phase-change materials, suitably encapsulated, were tested in a sub-kale thermal storage unit of about 20MJ capacity, using air as the heat-transfer fluid. In most cases, measured thermal-storage capacity exceeded 90% of the theoretical value. After considering a number of heating and cooling schemes employing phase-change heat storage, we selected a forced hot air, central storage design, using CaCl2.6H2O encapsulated in plastic pipes. A home was designed, using a two-storey conservatory for solar collection with vertical glazing and movable insulation.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed an analysis for the soiar chimney, aimed particularly at deriving overall efficiency and significant performance data, and concluded that the solar chimney is essentially a power generator of large scale.
Abstract: SYNOPSIS An analysis is developed for the soiar chimney, aimed particularly at deriving overall efficiency and significant performance data. Numerical values are consistent with available information on the 200 m solar chimney at Manzanares, Spain, and projected designs. Overall efficiency is directly related to the height of the chimney and is shown to be about 1% for a height of 1000 m. It is concluded that the solar chimney is essentially a power generator of large scale.

Abstract: SYNOPSIS This paper describes a spherical buoy, which can perform heaving oscillation relative to a strut joined to an anchor on the sea bed. The buoy is supplied with latching means for optimum phase control and with an air turbine for power take-off. The electrical generator is rated at 0.4 MW. An estimate is given for the cost of a 200 MW power plant and for its annual energy production if placed off the west coast of Norway. The estimated electricity cost is approximately 4 p/kWh. At the present stage of the research, it is consequently not competitive with hydroelectric power plants in Norway. However. There are several options for cost reduction of a powerbuoy plant.

TL;DR: In this paper, an attempt has been made for evaluating thermal, electrical and exergy output of solar PV panel installed at Energy Centre, NIT Bhopal using the first law of thermodynamics.
Abstract: The solar photovoltaic (PV) system generates both electrical and thermal energy from solar radiation. In this paper, an attempt has been made for evaluating thermal, electrical and exergy output of solar PV panel installed at Energy Centre, NIT Bhopal. Using the first law of thermodynamics, energy analysis was performed and exergy analysis was carried out to determine exergy losses during the PV conversion process by applying the second law of thermodynamics. The operating and electrical parameters of a PV array include PV module temperature, overall heat loss coefficient, open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current, fill factor, etc. were experimentally determined for a typical hazy day of March (10 March 2012) at Bhopal. The experimental data are used for the calculation of the energy and exergy efficiencies of the PV systems. Energy efficiency is seen to vary between 6% and 9% during the day. In contrast, exergy efficiency is lower for electricity generation using the considered PV module, ranging from...
