TL;DR: This article presents a classification, review, challenges, and future perspectives to implement a traffic management system that addresses the problem of congestion in cities.
Abstract: In cities, where the number of vehicles continuously increases faster than the available traffic infrastructure to support them, congestion is a difficult issue to deal with and it becomes even worse in case of car accidents. This problem affects many aspects of the modern society, including economic development, traffic accidents, increase in greenhouse emissions, time spent, and health damages. In this context, modern societies can rely on traffic management system to minimize traffic congestion and its negative effects. Traffic management systems are composed of a set of application and management tools to improve the overall traffic efficiency and safety of the transportation systems. Furthermore, to overcome such issue, traffic management system gathers information from heterogeneous sources, exploits such information to identify hazards that may potentially degrade the traffic efficiency, and then provides services to control them. With this question in mind, this article presents a classification, ...

TL;DR: A large number of experimental results show that the proposed integrated collaborative filtering recommendation approach can effectively enhance the recommendation performance in terms of mean absolute error and root mean square error.
Abstract: Cyber-physical systems are becoming part of our daily life, and a large number of data are generated at such an unprecedented rate that it becomes larger than ever before in social cyber-physical systems. As a consequence, it is highly desired to process these big data so that meaningful knowledge can be extracted from those vast and diverse data. Based on those large-scale data, using collaborative filtering recommendation methods to recommend some valuable clients or products for those e-commerce websites or users is considered as an effective way. In this work, we present an integrated collaborative filtering recommendation approach that combines item ratings, user ratings, and social trust for making better recommendations. In contrast to previous collaborative filtering recommendation works, integrated collaborative filtering recommendation approach takes full advantage of the correlation between data and takes into consideration the similarity between items, the similarity between users and two kind...

TL;DR: The proposed Internet of things–based integrated information system is demonstrated to improve the effectiveness of monitoring processes and decision making in construction informatics applications and highlights the crucial importance of a systematic approach toward integrated information systems for effective information collection and structural health monitoring.
Abstract: The intelligent security monitoring of buildings and their surroundings has become increasingly crucial as the number of high-rise buildings increases. Building structural health monitoring and early warning technology are key components of building safety, the implementation of which remains challenging, and the Internet of things approach provides a new technical measure for addressing this challenge. Specifically, the system involves an intelligent data box with enhanced connectivity and exchangeability for accessing and integrating the data obtained from distributed heterogeneous sensing devices. An extensible markup language (XML)–based uniform data parsing model is proposed to abstract the various message formats of heterogeneous devices to ensure data integration. TL;DR: A novel vision–based fall detection approach that analyzes an extracted human body using described human postures and achieves up to 95.2% fall detection accuracy on a public fall dataset.
Abstract: Accidental falls of elderly people are a major cause of fatal injuries, especially for those living alone. We present a novel vision–based fall detection approach that analyzes an extracted human body using described human postures. First, a human body extracted by a background subtraction technique is located by a minimum area-enclosing ellipse. Then, a normalized directional histogram is developed around the center of the ellipse to represent a human posture by multi-directional statistical analysis. After that, 12 static and 8 dynamic features are derived from the normalized directional histogram. These features are fed into a directed acyclic graph support vector machine to distinguish four closely related human postures (standing, crouching, lying, and sitting). A fall-like accident is detected by counting the occurrences of lying postures in a short temporal window. After conducting majority voting, a fall event is determined by immobility verification. From the experimental results, an overall accu...

TL;DR: The review shows that most of the algorithms used one parameter to find the optimal number of mobile agents in multi-agent itinerary planning without utilizing other parameters and did not take into account the security of the data gathered by the mobile agent.
Abstract: Recently, wireless sensor networks have employed the concept of mobile agent to reduce energy consumption and obtain effective data gathering. Typically, in data gathering based on mobile agent, it is an important and essential step to find out the optimal itinerary planning for the mobile agent. However, single-agent itinerary planning suffers from two primary disadvantages: task delay and large size of mobile agent as the scale of the network is expanded. Thus, using multi-agent itinerary planning overcomes the drawbacks of single-agent itinerary planning. Despite the advantages of multi-agent itinerary planning, finding the optimal number of distributed mobile agents, source nodes grouping, and optimal itinerary of each mobile agent for simultaneous data gathering are still regarded as critical issues in wireless sensor network. Therefore, in this article, the existing algorithms that have been identified in the literature to address the above issues are reviewed. The review shows that most of the algo...
