TL;DR: The proposed Clustered-Based Energy Efficient Routing (CBE2R) protocol controls the node mobility and prolongs the battery power of nodes by dividing the water depth into seven numbers of layers from top to seabed and compared with energy efficient REEP, EMGGR, and DRP.
Abstract: Routing in undersea environment is one of the challenging research areas due to the nature of acoustic channel and underwater harsh environment. In underwater environment, the major challenges are propagation delay, high bit error rates, limited bandwidth, uncontrolled node mobility, water current, 3D deployment and limited resources. Hence, designing an efficient and communication protocols for underwater environment is a challenging issue. To control the node mobility and prolong the battery power of the nodes, we proposed Clustered-Based Energy Efficient Routing (CBE2R) protocol. CBE2R controls the node mobility and prolongs the battery power of nodes by dividing the water depth into seven numbers of layers from top to seabed. CBE2R prolongs the battery power through powerful static courier nodes which are deployed from sea surface to seabed on different layers. Clustered-based routing mechanism with highest weighted value for data forwarding is based on seabed to bottom layer courier nodes thr...

TL;DR: In this article, a single artificial neural network (ANN) is used to detect and diagnose the fault in both binary and trinary configurations of the asymmetric cascaded H-bridge (CHB) MLIs.
Abstract: The increased component requirement to realise multilevel inverter (MLI) fallout in a higher fault prospect due to power semiconductors. In this scenario, efficient fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) strategies to detect and locate the power semiconductor faults have to be incorporated in addition to the conventional protection systems. Even though a number of FDD methods have been introduced in the symmetrical cascaded H-bridge (CHB) MLIs, very few methods address the FDD in asymmetric CHB-MLIs. In this paper, the gate-open circuit FDD strategy in asymmetric CHB-MLI is presented. Here, a single artificial neural network (ANN) is used to detect and diagnose the fault in both binary and trinary configurations of the asymmetric CHB-MLIs. In this method, features of the output voltage of the MLIs are used as to train the ANN for FDD method. The results prove the validity of the proposed method in detecting and locating the fault in both asymmetric MLI configurations. Finally, the ANN response to the...

TL;DR: In this article, Gaussian doping is used in the drain region of conventional gate-drain overlap TFETs to control the tunneling of electrons from the valence band of channel to the conduction band of drain.
Abstract: Ambipolar conduction in tunnel field-effect transistors (TFETs) has been occurred as an inherent issue due to drain-channel tunneling. It makes TFET less efficient and restricts its application in complementary digital circuits. Therefore, this manuscript reports the application of Gaussian doping profile on nanometer regime silicon channel TFETs to completely eliminate the ambipolarity. For this, Gaussian doping is used in the drain region of conventional gate-drain overlap TFET to control the tunneling of electrons from the valence band of channel to the conduction band of drain. As a result, barrier width at the drain/channel junction increases significantly leading to the suppression of an ambipolar current even when higher doping concentration (1 × 10 19 cm −3) is considered in the drain region. However, significant improvement in terms of RF figure-of-merits such as cut-off frequency (f T), gain bandwidth product (GBW), and gate-to-drain capacitance (C gd) is achieved with Gaussian doped...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a switching method with the neutral-point voltage control in a single-phase neutral point-clamped three-level inverter (SP-NPCI) used in photovoltaic systems.
Abstract: This paper proposes a novel switching method with the neutral-point voltage control in a single-phase neutral-point-clamped three-level inverter (SP-NPCI) used in photovoltaic systems. A proposed novel switching method for the SP-NPCI improves the efficiency. The main concept is to fix the switching state of one leg. As a result, the switching loss decreases and the total efficiency is improved. In addition, it enables the maximum power-point-tracking operation to be performed by applying the proposed neutral-point voltage control algorithm. This control is implemented by modifying the reference signal. Simulation and experimental results provide verification of the performance of a novel switching method with the neutral-point voltage control.

TL;DR: An altogether different application of GI for the design of compensator based on the extraction of in-phase and quadrature components is discussed and experimental results showing the proposed control approach are presented and discussed for the hardware set-up developed in the laboratory.
Abstract: This article discusses the design and control of a single-phase grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system. A 5-kW PV system is designed and integrated at the DC link of an H-bridge voltage source converter (VSC). The control of the VSC and switching logic is modelled using a generalised integrator (GI). The use of GI or its variants such as second-order GI have recently evolved for synchronisation and are being used as phase locked loop (PLL) circuits for grid integration. Design of PLL circuits and the use of transformations such as Park’s and Clarke’s are much easier in three-phase systems. But obtaining in-phase and quadrature components becomes an important and challenging issue in single-phase systems. This article addresses this issue and discusses an altogether different application of GI for the design of compensator based on the extraction of in-phase and quadrature components. GI is frequently used as a PLL; however, in this article, it is not used for synchronisation purposes. A new contr...

TL;DR: In this paper, a new layout of CMOS circuit is proposed, with an aim to improve its electrical performance and reduce the chip area consumed, and the proposed TBRS FD-SOI n- and p-MOSFET exhibits lower sub-threshold slope and higher Ion to Ioff ratio when compared with FinFET technology.
Abstract: Efficient layouts have been an active area of research to accommodate the greater number of devices fabricated on a given chip area. In this work a new layout of CMOS circuit is proposed, with an aim to improve its electrical performance and reduce the chip area consumed. The study shows that the design of CMOS circuit and SRAM cells comprising tapered body reduced source fully depleted silicon on insulator (TBRS FD-SOI)-based n- and p-type MOS devices. The proposed TBRS FD-SOI n- and p-MOSFET exhibits lower sub-threshold slope and higher Ion to Ioff ratio when compared with FD-SOI MOSFET and FinFET technology. Other parameters like power dissipation, delay time and signal-to-noise margin of CMOS inverter circuits show improvement when compared with available inverter designs. The above device design is used in 6-T SRAM cell so as to see the effect of proposed layout on high density integrated circuits (ICs). The SNM obtained from the proposed SRAM cell is 565 mV which is much better than any othe...

TL;DR: An agent-based secure enhanced performance approach (AB-SEP) for mobile ad hoc network is proposed through optimal node reliability as a factor, which is calculated on the basis of node performance features such as degree difference, normalised distance value, energy level, mobility and optimal hello interval of node.
Abstract: This paper proposes an agent-based secure enhanced performance approach (AB-SEP) for mobile ad hoc network. In this approach, agent nodes are selected through optimal node reliability as a factor. This factor is calculated on the basis of node performance features such as degree difference, normalised distance value, energy level, mobility and optimal hello interval of node. After selection of agent nodes, a procedure of malicious behaviour detection is performed using fuzzy-based secure architecture (FBSA). To evaluate the performance of the proposed approach, comparative analysis is done with conventional schemes using performance parameters such as packet delivery ratio, throughput, total packet forwarding, network overhead, end-to-end delay and percentage of malicious detection.

TL;DR: A novel, easy and fast approach for fault detection and isolation (FDI) of open-switch damage in insulated gate bipolar transistor-based VSI is proposed in this study.
Abstract: In this article, a fault-tolerant voltage source inverter (VSI) is proposed for a novel topology of stand-alone doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) feeding an isolated DC load. In this topology, stator and rotor sides of DFIG are connected to DC-bus through a diode rectifier and VSI, respectively. The fault-tolerant VSI includes a redundant leg connected by bidirectional switches in order to replace the faulted leg and improve the reliability of the proposed system. The field oriented control strategy is adopted to control the d and q-axis rotor currents in order to maintain the voltage and the frequency at the output of the generator constant. A novel, easy and fast approach for fault detection and isolation (FDI) of open-switch damage in insulated gate bipolar transistor-based VSI is proposed in this study. This approach is developed using mathematical transformations such as a hysteresis detector, an integrator and a trigger. The FDI algorithm proposed here does not require the knowledge of t...

TL;DR: The proposed combination of GVSS-LMS and MKF algorithms for robust channel estimation and the NVFF-RLS algorithm for efficient channel prediction is incorporated and the reliable performance of underlying AOFDM system can be achieved in terms of the lower mean squared estimation/prediction errors and alleviated symbol error rate.
Abstract: This correspondence presents the channel estimation and long-range prediction technique for adaptive-orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing (AOFDM) system. The efficient channel loading is accomplished by feeding the accurately predicted channel-state-information (CSI) back to transmitter. The frequency-selective wireless fading channel is modelled as a tapped-delay-line-filter governed by a first-order autoregressive (AR1) process; and an adaptive channel estimator based on the generalised-variable-step-size least-mean-square (GVSS-LMS) algorithm tracks AR1 correlation coefficient. To compensate for the signal fading due to channel state variations, a modified-Kalman-filter (MKF)-based channel estimator is utilised. In addition, channel tracking is also performed for predicting future CSI at receiver, based on the numeric-variable-forgetting-factor recursive-least-squares (NVFF-RLS) algorithm. Subsequently, adaptive bit allocation for AOFDM system is employed by using predicted CSI at transmi...

TL;DR: In this paper, a soft-switching bidirectional DC-DC converter is presented as a way to improve the conversion efficiency of a photovoltaic (PV) system.
Abstract: A soft-switching bidirectional DC–DC converter is presented herein as a way to improve the conversion efficiency of a photovoltaic (PV) system. Adoption of coupled inductors enables the presented converter not only to provide a high-conversion ratio but also to suppress the transient surge voltage via the release of the energy stored in leakage flux of the coupled inductors, and the cost can kept down consequently. A combined use of a switching mechanism and an auxiliary resonant branch enables the converter to successfully perform zero-voltage switching operations on the main switches and improves the efficiency accordingly. It was testified by experiments that our proposed converter works relatively efficiently in full-load working range. Additionally, the framework of the converter intended for testifying has high-conversion ratio. The results of a test, where a generating system using PV module array coupled with batteries as energy storage device was used as the low-voltage input side, and DC...
