TL;DR: In this article, a survey of 220 supply chain respondents revealed that both top management support and data-driven culture have a high significant influence on their intention to adopt big data analytics (BDA) in SCM.
Abstract: Supported by the literature on big data, supply chain management (SCM), and resource-based theory (RBT), this study aims to evaluate the organizational variables that influence the intention of Saudi SCM professionals to adopt big data analytics (BDA) in SCM. A survey of 220 supply chain respondents revealed that both top management support and data-driven culture have a high significant influence on their intention to adopt BDA. However, the firm entrepreneurial orientation showed no significant effect. Also, the findings revealed that supply chain connectivity positively moderates the link between top management support and intention. This study contributes to the practical field, offering valuable insights for decision makers considering BDA adoption in SCM. It also contributes to the literature by helping minimize the research gap in BDA adoption in the Saudi context.

TL;DR: The research results show that the improved advertising costs and revenue sharing contract can perfectly coordinate the dual-channel supply chain system.
Abstract: To study the impact of advertising cooperation on the decisions of dual-channel supply chain, a dual-channel supply chain system consisting of a single manufacturer and a single retailer is considered. The manufacturer can sell products to customers either through a direct marketing channel or through a traditional retail channel. This paper analyses the level of advertising investment and supply chain profits of centralized and decentralized dual-channel supply chains based on a Stackelberg game. Then, the decision models of dual-channel supply chain under different contracts are constructed, and how manufacturers can optimize the profits of both sides through an effective coordination mechanism is analyzed. The research results show that the improved advertising costs and revenue sharing contract can perfectly coordinate the dual-channel supply chain system. Numerical experiments illustrate the impacts of parameters on the optimal decision results.

TL;DR: A mathematical model is presented that selects the optimal set of supply chains that match diverse characteristics of products and customers, including the required lead time, the supply chain lead times, the customer time sensitivity, and the complexity factor resulting from having multiple supply chains.
Abstract: It has become widely accepted that delivering diverse products to customers who have different needs by a “one-size-fits-all” supply chain results in lower profits and customer service. Therefore, there is a need to design supply chain systems that can effectively and profitably serve products and customers with diverse characteristics. This paper presents a mathematical model that selects the optimal set of supply chains that match diverse characteristics of products and customers. The model considers various product, customer, and supply chain characteristics, including the required lead time, the supply chain lead times, the customer time sensitivity, and the complexity factor resulting from having multiple supply chains. An example and a sensitivity analysis are used to demonstrate the model's capabilities.

TL;DR: The study shows that the optimal solution not only exists but also is unique and is less expensive to operate if the factors of three-phase variation, representing the growth, the steady, and the decline phases of demand with respect to time are considered.
Abstract: This paper focuses an optimal policy of an inventory model for deteriorating items with trapezoidal type demand rate and the three-parameter Weibull distribution deterioration rate. The model allows shortages which are completely backlogged in order to achieve better preserving amenity. The authors present some optimal solutions which leads to determine the total inventory cost in which the collective behavior of customers hinges on the waiting time. An easy-to-use optimization technique is included to find the shortage time point and order quantity to minimize the total system cost. Taking into account the above-mentioned assumptions, different kinds of numerical examples are considered to illustrate the theoretical behavior of the framed optimization model. The sensitivity analysis is made for this problem with variation of parameters. The study shows that the optimal solution not only exists but also is unique and is less expensive to operate if the factors of three-phase variation, representing the growth, the steady, and the decline phases of demand with respect to time are considered.

TL;DR: In this paper, the role played by supply chain relational connection in moderating how demand variability signal is transmitted upstream is investigated, and it is shown that demand variability is propagated through supply chain upward and the transmission is influenced by the structural relationship between suppliers and customers, which is measured by customer-base concentration and customer interconnectedness.
Abstract: Previous empirical studies on bullwhip effects treat each industry or firm as isolated from its supply chain network. In this paper, the authors are interested in the role played by supply chain relational connection in moderating how demand variability signal is transmitted upstream. The paper conducts an empirical study based on a panel data of 55 manufacturing industries and 9 wholesale industries. The regression analysis shows that demand variability is propagated through supply chain upward and the transmission is influenced by the structural relationship between suppliers and customers, which is measured by customer-base concentration and customer interconnectedness. On the other hand, customer demand variability has a greater impact on industries with less concentrated customer base or with less interconnected customers.

TL;DR: Though the Kanban system is rarely implemented in the pharmaceutical sector so far, it is understood in this study that it can bring improvements in the sector if properly implemented.
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to show how the implementation of the Kanban system based on ABC/XYZ analysis helps in improving the inventory management system in the supply chain where there is a lack of proper inventory management. Ethiopian pharmaceutical supply agency's distribution network is taken as a case to show the significance of the Kanban system. Monthly data for one year is collected and is accompanied by primary data obtained from direct observation and discussion with the company's management staff. ABC, XYZ, and ABC/XYZ matrix analyses were performed to determine items to be considered in Kanban implementation. By analysis, it is shown that the Kanban system can improve inventory-related costs by about 75%. While the Kanban system is rarely implemented in the pharmaceutical sector so far, it is understood in this study that it can bring improvements in the sector if properly implemented. Though it is shown by analyzing data on how the Kanban system can improve inventory-related costs, it is imperative to practically implement it for validation of its effectiveness.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors sort out the drivers dimensions and specific impact indicators of fresh food sustainable supply chain management through the literature, and then, the integration of rough set theory and decision laboratory analysis reveals the internal strength, external connection, and comprehensive influence degree, while the prominence and relation of the driving factors are tested which reflects their priority.
Abstract: The production, processing, transportation, and consumption of fresh food have a significant impact on the sustainable development of the whole fresh food supply chain. There are relatively few methods and techniques to qualitatively analyze the dynamic driving factors of fresh food sustainable supply-chain management (SSCM). To solve this problem, this paper first sorts out the drivers dimensions and specific impact indicators of fresh food SSCM through the literature. Then, the integration of rough set theory and decision laboratory analysis reveals the internal strength, external connection, and comprehensive influence degree, while the prominence and relation of the driving factors are tested which reflects their priority. The results show that the competitiveness of the supply chain, food security, and strategic are the main driving factors of SSCM. Attention should be paid to green technology, product design, and green logistics. The creation and distribution of added value, as well as food security management, should be improved.

TL;DR: The research shows that the enterprise's complete recovery rate and risk infection rate have a greater impact on the risk propagation in the supply chain network.
Abstract: Supply chain risk management is an important topic in supply chain management. The authors investigate the rules and characteristics of risk propagation in complex supply networks. Aiming at the characteristics of complex supply chain with complex structure and large risk consequences, considering the different impact capabilities and different anti-risk capabilities of each enterprise node, this paper proposes a SITR (susceptible-infected-temporarily removed-completely removed) risk propagation model based on weighted networks. After the dynamic analysis of the proposed model, numerical simulation is performed, and a supply chain risk control strategy is proposed according to the simulation results. The research shows that the enterprise's complete recovery rate and risk infection rate have a greater impact on the risk propagation in the supply chain network. Enterprises should increase their awareness of risk management and control, improve their complete recovery rate, and reduce their risk of infection.

TL;DR: Analysis of a closed-loop supply chain where the manufacturer is responsible to collect used products and has a competitive dual-channel in selling new and remanufactured products concluded that model MR is the optimal channel configuration in terms of the sales quantity of reManufactured products and model 3PR never be the optimal one.
Abstract: This study aims to analyze the optimal channel configuration of a manufacturer in a closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) where the manufacturer is responsible to collect used products and has a competitive dual-channel in selling new and remanufactured products respectively, including through a retailer and a third-party (Model 3PR) or by itself directly and a third-party (Model 3PM) or through a retailer and by itself directly (Model MR). Considering the manufacturer-Stackelberg, it concluded that model MR is the optimal channel configuration in terms of the sales quantity of remanufactured products and model 3PR never be the optimal one. In terms of the overall sales quantity, the profit of the manufacturer and the whole CLSC, whether model 3PM or model MR is the optimal channel configuration depends on the value of the discount perception for remanufactured products, the cost saving of producing remanufactured products, and whether considering the collection process or not.

TL;DR: The authors propose a derivative-free algorithm specifically tied to the application which exploits a new selection strategy for choosing entire subsets of items with the aim to get the best expected improvement in the objective function.
Abstract: Spare parts management affects significantly costs and service level for supply chains. This paper deals with an inventory management problem for multi-item repairable systems via a systemic perspective based on a new efficient integer black-box optimization model. With respect to the traditionally used marginal allocation that considers items individually, the proposed black-box optimization model is a holistic approach in the fact that it exploits relationships among items. The authors propose a derivative-free algorithm specifically tied to the application which exploits a new selection strategy for choosing entire subsets of items with the aim to get the best expected improvement in the objective function. The approach has been tested on a real case study for optimizing stocks in an airline's inventory network. The case study provides evidence about the good behavior of the exploratory geometry of the proposed approach in finding quickly a feasible and optimal solution for inventory control.

TL;DR: The hybridized proposed scheme involved the meta-heuristic swarm mechanism of ant colony optimization (ACO) and deterministic spanning tree (SPT) algorithm as it obtained faster convergence chain, ensured resource utilization in least time and cost, and significantly improves performance.
Abstract: As cloud resource demand grows, supply chain management (SCM), which is the core function of cloud computing, faces serious challenges. Quite a number of techniques have been proposed by many researchers for such a challenge. As such, numerous proposed strategies are still under reckoning and modification so as to enhance its potential. An optimized dynamic scheme that combined several algorithms' characteristics was proposed to map out such a challenge. The hybridized proposed scheme involved the meta-heuristic swarm mechanism of ant colony optimization (ACO) and deterministic spanning tree (SPT) algorithm as it obtained faster convergence chain, ensured resource utilization in least time and cost. Extensive experiments conducted in cloudsim simulator provided an efficient result in terms of minimized makespan time and throughput as compared to SPT, round robin (RR), and pre-emptive fair scheduling algorithm (PFSA) as it significantly improves performance.

TL;DR: In this article, the effort levels of supervisors, the manufacturers association and the administrative supervision department, and manufacturer in a supply chain management regarding credit system (CS) construction based on two different driving modes using game theory.
Abstract: This paper analyzes effort levels of supervisors, the manufacturers association and the administrative supervision department, and manufacturer in a supply chain management regarding credit system (CS) construction based on two different driving modes using game theory. A whole CS construction, in a supply chain management system, can be generally divided into two driving modes, industry regulation (IR), and administrative supervision (AS). The authors firstly establish payoff functions based on traditional income function and marginal effort-cost function. And then they analyze strategic equilibriums of the supervisors and the manufacturers based on their decision roles in the two modes. After that, they make comparisons on equilibrium states between IR and AS. From the results, they find that strategic equilibriums in AS construction is not necessarily better than those in IR construction. These results can also provide strategic help for CS construction in supply chain management when considering better combination between IR and AS.

TL;DR: It is found that there is a unique equilibrium threshold between the two disclosure modes and only when the selling price after promotion is lower than the threshold are manufacturers or retailers willing to make information disclosure.
Abstract: The establishment of online direct sales channels influences the selection of pricing strategies and promotion information disclosure strategies of manufacturers and retailers. Considering the consideration of consumer preference, this paper studies the influence of different promotion information disclosure modes on the promotion effect and the income of supply chain members in the dual-channel supply chain with direct online channels. Based on hoteling model, the authors establish a model on market demand of the two channels and analyze the pricing and disclosure strategies of manufacturers and retailers under different concerns of consumers. It is found that there is a unique equilibrium threshold between the two disclosure modes. Only when the selling price after promotion is lower than the threshold are manufacturers or retailers willing to make information disclosure. It is also found that the disclosure intention and strategy of manufacturer or retailer will change with different customers' concerns and the relationship between the difference of two channels promotion and the threshold value.

TL;DR: The results indicate that emission reduction preferences significantly affect carbon emissions and operation costs in logistics network design, especially at the strategic level.
Abstract: As a major cause of global warming, carbon emissions have become a considerable concern in society. In this paper, the authors examine logistics network design considering the carbon emission reduction preferences of decision-makers. To investigate the effects of carbon reduction preferences on carbon emissions, the authors first develop two optimization models with the objectives of optimizing carbon emissions and operation costs, respectively. Subsequently, the authors analyze the effects of the emission reduction preferences of decision-makers on logistics network design at both the strategic and tactical levels. Moreover, the authors propose coordination mechanisms for carbon emissions and operation costs in logistics network design. The results indicate that emission reduction preferences significantly affect carbon emissions and operation costs in logistics network design, especially at the strategic level.
