TL;DR: In this paper, the applicability of the theory of reasoned action (TRA) in predicting the intention to choose halal products among Malaysian consumers was evaluated using a structured questionnaire to elicit responses from consumers using a convenience sampling technique.
Abstract: Purpose – Emphasis on the importance of halal products is now growing. It is fast becoming a new market force and brand identifier and is now moving into the mainstream market, affecting and changing perception on how business should be conducted, including from a marketing point of view. A total of 485 responses were received. Needless to say, this study extends the applicability of the TRA to study halal product usage among consumers in Malaysia.Findings – The findings indicated that the TRA is a valid model in the prediction of the intention to choose halal products. TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the relationship between service quality perception and customers' satisfaction in Malaysian Islamic banking using the SEM approach and found that the proportion of Malaysian Muslims' awareness of the Islamic banking products and services were high compared to non-Muslim customers.
Abstract: Purpose – This study attempts to examine the relationship between service quality perception and customers' satisfaction in Malaysian Islamic banking using the SEM approach.Design/methodology/approach – This model starts with SERVQUAL measurement scales consisting of six dimensional structures: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy, and plus the compliance dimensions to measure Malaysian Islamic banking service quality. Respondents are the customers (Muslim and non‐Muslim) who visit the bank counters. They must have an account with one of the full‐fledged Islamic banking and dual‐banking systems.Findings – The results showed that the proportion of Malaysian Muslims' awareness of the Islamic banking products and services were high compared to non‐Muslim customers. The majority of the Islamic banking customers were satisfied with the overall service quality provided by their banks. The findings suggest that the standard model of Islamic banking service quality dimensions should cons...

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of applying alternative Shariah screens on the resulting universe of halal assets is analyzed and it is shown that Shariah screening procedures currently used in practice are inconsistent with respect to discriminating between halal and haram.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact of applying alternative Shariah screens on the resulting universe of halal assets and to show that Shariah screening procedures currently used in practice are inconsistent with respect to discriminating between halal and haram.Design/methodology/approach – An empirical data analysis of the different asset universes obtained when applying the criteria specified by the most prominent Shariah‐compliant funds and indexes to a common standard asset universe, the assets contained in the S&P 500 index.Findings – Analysis reveals that the asset universes are significantly different in size as well as constituents, i.e. for every index there is a substantial number of assets which are specified as halal or haram but classified the opposite way for other indexes. This indicates that, so far, there is no universal or generally accepted understanding of how to transform the descriptive Shariah rules into a system of checkable investment guidelines.Research ...
