Data Ownership: Who Owns 'My Data'?

Abstract: The amount of data in our world today is substantially mammoth. Many of the personal and non-personal aspects of our day to day activities are aggregated and stored as data by both businesses and governments. The increasing data captured through multimedia, social media, and the Internet of Things is a phenomenon that needs to be properly examined. In this article, we explore this topic, and analyse the term data ownership. We aim to raise awareness and trigger debate for policy makers around data ownership and the need to improve existing data protection and privacy laws and legislation at both national and international levels.

Strategic Management as a key for Superior Competitive advantage of Sanitary Ware Suppliers in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract: Strategic Management has become an essential nowadays as managerial techniques have been developed and used successfully by many of professional business corporation such as General electric and the Boston Consulting Group. Initially strategic Management was of most use to professional corporations operating in multiple industries. Increasing risk of error, costly mistakes, misunderstanding market needed and even economic ruin are causing todays professional managers in all organizations to take Strategic Management seriously in order to keep their companies competitive in an increasingly volatile environment. In this study we will focus on Suppliers who deal with sanitary ware (Bathroom accessories, Mixers, Bathtub) in Makkah and Jeddah Cities, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Mostly people in Makkah and Jeddah Cities prefer to purchase from various outlets vendors / retailers who are available usually in same area, according to their convenience, preference and selection. Increases in expectations and changing culinary style of consumers make the Sanitary Ware (Bathroom accessories, Mixers, Bathtub) business dynamic in general. Despite the increasing interest in the area there are very little researches on Superior Competitive Advantage of sanitary ware vending service in our domestic market. Keeping these conditions in view, this study tries to explore the current scenario in which Sanitary Ware (Bathroom accessories, Mixers, Bathtub) has become a flourishing business for a lot of Suppliers as it has been successful in attracting a large mass of customers and projects.This study analyses Strategic Management as the key for Superior Competitive Advantage of Sanitary Ware (Bathroom accessories, Mixers, Bathtub) in Makkah and Jeddah Cities. The present survey has been done with 112 retailers who purchase sanitary ware from sanitary ware suppliers companies in Makkah and Jeddah Cities. It identifies the most relevant understanding of StrategicManagement as the key for Superior Competitive Advantage, and determines their influence in choosing of Sanitary Ware outlets. The results show that Strategic Management as independent variable has a positive influence on Superior Competitive Advantage of Sanitary ware suppliers in Makkah and Jeddah Cities.

Effects of Job Satisfaction on Job Performance and Occupational Commitment

Abstract: The paper aims to examine the effect of job satisfaction on the levels of job performance and occupational commitment among academicians in the universities. A structured questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection, with academic staff in the Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam University as respondents. The results of regression analysis indicated that job satisfaction has a positive impact on job performance and occupational commitment. Job satisfaction explains the 36.7 percent of job performance, and 48.0 percent of occupational commitment of academic staff. Additionally, occupational commitment has also a positive impact on job performance of academicians and explains 28.7 percent of their job performance. Academic administrators can provide a suitable organizational climate to increase the satisfaction level and thus, occupational commitment and job performance of the academic staff will increase. The results and recommendations in the paper will be of interest to all academic administrators and staff, not only for the Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam University but also for the academic administrators in all universities.

Application of the Artificial Neural Network to monitor the quality of treated water

Abstract: Due to importance of the quality of treated water as a drastic parameter in people’s life and engineering problems, numerous experimental and semi-experimental models were recently used by water and environmental engineers in order to estimate the quality of water. Between the used models, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approach as an advantageous black box model was showed great authority in engineering sciences in general and in water engineering in particular. In this study, an ANN-based method was utilized to model the quality of the potable water parameters. To evaluate the model, the water quality data sets of Zarrineh Rood water treatment plant –before and after treatment– were used. After the statistical analysis on the recorded daily data sets, they were divided into calibration and verification sub-sets. In this paper the measured heat, PH, opacity, total hardness, and the level of calcium before the treatment process were considered as input variables of the model and the quantity of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and Electrical Conductivity (EC) after treatment were considered as output neurons of ANN. To have better interpretation about the model efficiency, the outcomes were compared with other classical and practical models and the results proved high merit of ANN in predicting the parameters of treated water.
