Abstract: Deep neural network (DNN), has shown an incredible success in the field of computer vision and in tasks such as classification, facial detection etc. But, accuracy of a model depends on a large number of parameters such as weights, bias, number of hidden layers, different kinds of activation function and hyperparameters. Epochs is a form of hyperparameter which plays an integral part in the training process of a model. The total number of epochs to be used help us decide whether the data is over trained or not. Recently, the performance of deep neural networks, have been improved by making use of pre-trained network architectures, and by the introduction of GPU-based computation and now recently we are even on the verge of training the models on TPU chips. However, there are many problems in the field of Deep Neural Network which concerns the training, back propagation, and customizing of the hyperparameters.

Abstract: This paper presents an evaluation of utilizing cement (OPC) as a partially replacement from slag (GGBFS) in Alkali Activated Slag Concrete (AASC) mixes cured in ambient conditions. The evaluation of mixes was performed based on workability and compressive strength using Taguchi method. The aluminosilicate source was a mix of GGBFS and OPC, while the alkaline activator was made with a mix of Sodium Hydroxide (SH) and Sodium Silicate (SS). The four parameters considered in this study are: GGBFS:OPC ratio, Na2O ratio, solution modulus (Ms) and water to binder ratio (W/B). Nine mixes were conducted using L9 Taguchi array. Slump test and compression test were carried out on all mixes. The results were evaluated by determining Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio using Minitab program and making ANOVA analysis using Qualitek-4 program to investigate the optimum level for each parameter. It was found that using alkali activator with a combination of GGBFS and OPC is not effective method to produce AAC because of the very low workability obtained. On the other hand, using slag only as a binder was effective to produce AAC with high compressive strength and desirable workability.

Abstract: Friction stir welding (FSW) is a solid-state weld process that broadly used by industries and preferred rather than other weld process due to its capability to weld similar and dissimilar materials under high quality. It can be used to weld high strength materials to weight ratio such as aluminum alloys, copper alloys, and magnesium alloys which are normally hard to be welded by conventional fusion welding processes. FSW has significant advantages over other weld processes, such as, automatic, used for most materials, can be carried out in all positions, low distortion, no shielding gas or filler are needed, can be employed under water, and environmentally friendly. On the other hand, FSW is like any other weld methods can produce series visualized or hidden defects if improper care used to process preparation. Of these defects are cracks, pores, voids and tunnel, fragment, lack of penetration, kissing bond, hooking, flash, and other surface defects. This paper presents the most common defects types that can be produced in FSW process and weaken the joint. The defects will be reviewed from some of significant studies made by researchers, and their results will be used to build up a guidance to detect and prevent these defects and their causes to assure producing a free defect weld joint.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors aim to reach the optimum indirect sonication time and the solid to liquid ratio that enhances the dispersion of nano-clay and consequently increases its reactivity in high strength cement mortars.
Abstract: The major problem that faces the use of nano-clay in concrete or in cement mortars is its high-water demand. Many researchers had investigated the reason for the high water demand was due to the high agglomeration behavior of nano-clay when mixed with water. Sonication is one of the methods used to de-agglomerate nano-clay particles and to improve the dispersion of nano-clay in the cement matrix. This research aims to reach the optimum indirect sonication time and the solid to liquid ratio that enhances the dispersion of nano-clay and consequently increases its reactivity in high strength cement mortars. The particle size distribution of the sonicated nano-clay particles and the corresponding specific surface area were the main keys governing the optimization process of the studied parameters. Using the optimum solid to liquid ratio with the corresponding sonication time, cement mortars were prepared, and their compressive strength as compared to a control mix (without nano-clay addition) was measured as an indication of the reactivity of nano-clay. In addition the performed microstructural analysis, SEM and XRD helped in confirming the compressive strength results. The results revealed that the optimum solid to liquid ratio is 1:6. Moreover, for every concentration, there is an optimum indirect sonication time. The optimum sonication time found to be 10 minutes for a solid to liquid ratio 1:6. By using the optimum concentration, an improvement in compressive strength of 18.7% and 22.6% after 7 and 28 days reached as compared to the control mix.

Abstract: Ohmic heating, known as joule heating, can produce heat by flowing electric current through materials that can resist the flow of electricity. The volumetric properties resulting from ohmic heating cause heat to be spread evenly on the material. This method is best for foods containing suspended particulate matter in media containing weak salt. The advantage of ohmic heating in food is demonstrated by its ability to deactivate pathogenic microbes, prevent the decline in functional properties of food, nutritional, and sensory values so that food shelf life increases. However, related to viscosity, electrical conductivity, and fouling deposits are the limitations of ohmic heating. In addition to the inhibition of the microbial and enzyme activity, ohmic heat was also used for the extraction of essential compounds, including various specific processes such as starch gelatinization. This review discusses the ohmic heating, the principles and design of ohmic heating, the factors that influence it, and its use in food.

Abstract: The research culture is a fundamental pillar for scientific production, because it allows us to train future professionals contemplating the techniques, methods and the process of research to prepare short documents: such as essays, monographs, and then deepen the knowledge by performing the thesis and scientific articles, in order to contribute to science with new knowledge. In the reality studied, it was evidenced that students lack investigative competences. The general and specialty training courses do not develop such capacities, but exclusively to theoretical and practical knowledge linked to professional training. Teachers do not consider research as a profitable activity. However, the educational community is acting proactively for the creation of new research teams with a disruptive presence, where researchers and teachers share their knowledge through the practical teaching of the process of scientific investigation. The university understudy, to date, has several projects financed by CONCYTEC, FINCyT, World Bank, SENCICO, the same that not only contribute to science but the improvement of the quality of life of people with innovative jobs. Although the results are encouraging, the scientific production ratio per research professor turns out to be almost two publications, while if it is related to the student population of the 9th and 10th cycle, the unit is not reached. Consequently, through these changes in the attitude of a tiny group, the student population is encouraged to be part of the new research culture through scientific input for the benefit of the population.
