TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an exploratory analysis of the essential elements in qualitative research that when properly and objectively utilised can enable the readers of qualitative work to judge it as a good research.
Abstract: When conducting research, it is essential that both the design and the method used are appropriate to fully answer the research questions. The overall aim of the study should determine the choice of the design. it is also crucial that the research is not only relevant but must be of good quality to provide knowledge that can be effectively used in various settings such as practice and education, as well as implementation of policies and projects. Qualitative research is used in various disciplines including behavioral and social sciences to understand human experiences and situations, as well as individuals' cultures, beliefs, and values. Qualitative research is very useful for exploring complex phenomena that are difficult to measure with quantitative studies. Despite the advantages of qualitative research, its trustworthiness is often questioned by some researchers and readers. This article presents an exploratory analysis of the essential elements in qualitative research that when properly and objectively utilised can enable the readers of qualitative work to judge it as a good research.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the importance of a pilot study to test and identify how methods and ideas would work in practice when undertaking a qualitative PhD thesis, and identify the issues within a specific qualitative pilot study prior to conducting the final study.
Abstract: A Pilot Study (PS) is a small-scale research project conducted before the final full-scale study. A PS helps researchers to test in reality how likely the research process is to work, in order to help them decide how best to conduct the final research study. In piloting a study, a researcher can identify or refine a research question, discover what methods are best for pursuing it, and estimate how much time and what resources will be necessary to complete the larger final version of the study. There is, however, a paucity in literature that focuses on using, reading and representing PSs. This article discusses the importance of a PS to test and identify how methods and ideas would work in practice when undertaking a qualitative PhD thesis. The proposed PS in this paper addressed many challenges, and the researcher reflected on different perspectives of their work including ethical, cultural, social and professional issues. By the end of the PhD thesis, undertaken with the guidance of the PS, it was found that a well-conducted PS, giving a clear list of aims and objectives within a formal framework, can encourage methodological rigour and ensure the validity of both the study itself and the methodology applied. The objectives of this paper are thus threefold: first, to identify the issues within a specific qualitative PS prior to conducting the final study; second, to address the researcher’s reflections on these findings and finally, to share the experiences and knowledge that a PS can be expected to bring.

Abstract: Islamic banking companies in Bangladesh mandatorily required following different rules, regulations, ordinance, guidelines in accounting and reporting practices but AAOIFI standards are not mandatory for them. But as Islamic organizations, they are supposed to comply with AAOIFI standards. The objective of this study is to reveal the level of Compliance of AAOIFI (Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions)guidelines regarding General Presentation and Disclosure in the Financial Statements of Islamic Banks listed in Bangladesh. The study considered the annual report of 7 listed Islamic banking companies of 2011. The study found that these banks comply on an average 44.68 percent (90.71 items of 203) of AAOIFI Guidelines regarding General Presentation and Disclosure in the Financial Statements. Standard deviation of total compliance score is 3.14 indicate that there is very poor difference among the Islamic banks in this regard. The study recommended increasing the level of compliance to make their report more informative and to inform their stakeholder that they are doing their business complying the rules and regulation of regulatory bodies.
