TL;DR: In this article, a nonlinear least-squares optimization algorithm based on the Newton model modified with Levenberg parameter is described for the extraction of the five illuminated solar cell parameters from the experimental data.
Abstract: A nonlinear least-squares optimization algorithm based on the Newton model modified with Levenberg parameter, is described for the extraction of the five illuminated solar cell parameters from the experimental data. An initialization routine based on the reduced nonlinear least-squares technique in which only two parameters have to be initialized, is introduced to overcome the difficulty in initializing the cell parameters. The program when incorporated into a microcomputer-based data acquisition software, allows an in-situ theoretical modelling of solar cells in laboratories. Results obtained for a commercial solar cell and a module are given.

TL;DR: The fundamental investigations into atmospherothermic solai chimney power plants and the construction of the pilot plant were commissioned by the Minister of Research and Technology of the Federal Republic of Germany as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The fundamental investigations into atmospherothermic solai chimney power plants and the construction of the pilot plant were commissioned by the Minister of Research and Technology of the Federal Republic of Germany. The work was supervised by the energy research project management department of Kernforschungsanlage Jiilich GmbH (The Jiilich Nuclear Energy Research Establishment). The basic principles of solar chimney power plants are presented in the form of simple estimates. From the relationships between the physical principles on the one hand and the scale and construction costs on the other, it may be concluded that economical power generation will be possible with large-scale plants designed for up to 400 MW/pk. A number of the design features of the pilot plant in Manzanares are also described.

TL;DR: In this article, preliminary test results from the solar chimney pilot plant described in (1) were communicated with reference to 24-hour records, including individual energy balances, collector efficiency values, pressure losses due to friction and losses in the turbine section.
Abstract: The design and construction of the solar chimney pilot plant in Manzanares, and the investigations described below, were commissioned by the Minister of Research and Technology of the Federal Republic of Germany. The work was supervised by the energy research project management department of Kernforschungsanlage Julich GmbH (The Julich Nuclear Research Establishment). The present paper communicates preliminary test results from the solar chimney pilot plant described in (1). This, the first solar chimney power plant in the world, was commissioned on 7 June 1982 and has been in continuous operation since then. Individual energy balances, collector efficiency values, pressure losses due to friction and losses in the turbine section are discussed with reference to 24-hour records. The findings agree well with results obtained hitherto in model calculations.

TL;DR: In this article, a model of the transient behavior of a matrix solar air heater is presented, where the transient behaviour of the heater results from sudden changes in the intensity of the incident solar radiation and the inlet fluid temperature.
Abstract: A Iheoreticat and experimental model which describes the transient behaviour of a matrix solar air heater is presented. The transient behaviour of the heater results from sudden changes in the intensity of the incident solar radiation and the inlet fluid temperature. The temperature distributions in both the fluid and the solid matrix domains are given exactly, and experiments are conducted to verify the validity of the theoretical model. There was good agreement between the measured and predicted values.

TL;DR: In this article, a variety of numerical models for calculating the solar irradiance for an inclined surface are described and evaluated using data for Vancouver, B.C., Canada, where the principal features of the anisotropic distribution of sky radiance must be included in the numerical computations since the use of the unrealistic isotropic model leads to significant short and long term errors.
Abstract: A variety of numerical models for calculating the solar irradiance for an inclined surface are described and evaluated using data for Vancouver, B.C., Canada. While all the hourly models have a common approach for calculating the direct component of the solar irradiance there is a variety of methods for calculating the diffuse irradiance based on the portion of the sky hemisphere within the field of view of the surface. A less significant distinction between the models is in the methods used to calculate the amount of radiation received as a result of reflection from adjacent surfaces. The paper demonstrates that the principal features of the anisotropic distribution of sky radiance must be included in the numerical computations since the use of the unrealistic isotropic model leads to significant short and long term errors. Inclusion of directional reflectance in the slope irradiance calculations will lead to increased accuracy for the estimated values, with greatest improvement being achieved in the win...
