TL;DR: This paper synthesises existing clustering algorithms news's and highlights the challenges in clustering.
Abstract: A wireless sensor network (WSN) consisting of a large number of tiny sensors can be an effective tool for gathering data in diverse kinds of environments. The data collected by each sensor is communicated to the base station, which forwards the data to the end user. Clustering is introduced to WSNs because it has proven to be an effective approach to provide better data aggregation and scalability for large WSNs. Clustering also conserves the limited energy resources of the sensors. This paper synthesises existing clustering algorithms in WSNs and highlights the challenges in clustering.

TL;DR: This paper proposes and implements a fuzzy-based admission control system (FACS) and carried out many simulations to evaluate the performance of the proposed system, showing that the system has a good performance.
Abstract: With the popularisation of mobile devices such as smart phones, many device communicate over wireless local area networks (WLANs). The IEEE 802.11e standard is an important extension of the IEEE 802.11 standard focusing on QoS that works with any PHY implementation. The IEEE 802.11e standard introduces EDCA and HCCA. Both these schemes are useful for QoS provisioning to support delay-sensitive voice and video applications. The EDCA uses the contention window to differentiate between high priority and low priority services. However, it does not consider the priority of users. In this paper, in order to deal with this problem, we propose and implement a fuzzy-based admission control system (FACS). We carried out many simulations to evaluate the performance of the proposed system. The simulation results show that our proposed system has a good performance.

TL;DR: This paper proposes and implements a system based on genetic algorithms (GAs) called WMN-GA and shows that single mutation operator has better behaviour considering size of giant component and the number of covered users.
Abstract: Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) have become an important networking infrastructure for providing cost-efficient broadband wireless connectivity. WMNs are showing their applicability in deployment of medical, transport and surveillance applications in urban areas, metropolitan, neighbouring communities and municipal area networks. In this paper, we deal with connectivity and coverage problem of WMN. Because these problems are known to be NP-Hard, we propose and implement a system based on genetic algorithms (GAs) called WMN-GA. We evaluate the performance of WMN-GA for different mutation operators and show that single mutation operator has better behaviour considering size of giant component and the number of covered users.

TL;DR: This paper proposes the analytical system for water quality classification using Pollution Index method, which is an extension of SEMAR, and confirms that the data analytic function adopting the linear SVM and decision tree algorithms achieves more than 90% for the estimation accuracy.
Abstract: Monitoring water conditions in real-time is a critical mission to preserve the water ecosystem in maritime and archipelagic countries, such as Indonesia that is relying on the wealth of water resources. To integrate the water monitoring system into the big data technology for real-time analysis, we have engaged in the ongoing project named smart environment monitoring and analytic in real-time system (SEMAR), which provides the IoT-big data platform for water monitoring. However, SEMAR does not have an analytical system yet. This paper proposes the analytical system for water quality classification using Pollution Index method, which is an extension of SEMAR. Besides, the communication protocol is updated from REST to MQTT. Furthermore, the real-time user interface is implemented for visualisation. The evaluations confirmed that the data analytic function adopting the linear SVM and decision tree algorithms achieves more than 90% for the estimation accuracy with 0.019075 for the MSE.

TL;DR: This paper categorises the major components in the IoT domain and provides a classification of security requirements and security threats applicable to each component, and discusses open security problems and provides directions for future research.
Abstract: The internet of things (IoT) is emerging as a popular future internet paradigm, in which physical entities and cyber entities are connected to form a network of networks. It is expected to enable mass participation of 'things' on mission critical services such as energy, mobility, healthcare, to name a few. Therefore, it is a matter of time for the IoT network to grow to billions of connected nodes. This leads to a variety of new, as well as existent, potential security risks whose severity depends on the environment in which the internet of things is deployed. This paper categorises the major components in the IoT domain and provides a classification of security requirements and security threats applicable to each component. It also discusses open security problems and provides directions for future research in order to address scalability and efficiency concerns, while allowing seamless introduction of new applications in this domain.
