TL;DR: The authors analyzes literature on decolonization, indigenous methodology, and social work in Africa, stressing that decolonisation of social work requires challenging dominant models of practice and research, while integrating traditional values and practices that have withstood centuries of oppression into culturally consonant forms of service and inquiry.
Abstract: Decolonizing social work requires becoming genuine, returning to one’s cultural roots for direction. Decolonization entails resistance to social work’s ‘West to the Rest’ movement, which seeks to ‘internationalize’ and ‘standardize’ the profession. For social work to be useful in Africa, reorientation of its methods toward facilitating holistic and indigenous intervention is mandatory. This conceptual article analyzes literature on decolonization, indigenous methodology, and social work in Africa, stressing that decolonization of social work requires challenging dominant models of practice and research, while integrating traditional values and practices that have withstood centuries of oppression into culturally consonant forms of service and inquiry.

TL;DR: This paper explored intimate partner violence using a patriarchal framework, which sheds light on how the problem of domestic violence against women is anchored in social and cultural conditions, rather than in individual attributes.
Abstract: This article explores intimate partner violence using a patriarchal framework, which sheds light on how the problem of intimate partner violence against women is anchored in social and cultural conditions, rather than in individual attributes. The study participants comprised South Asian women who have migrated to Hong Kong. Narrative analyses revealed how patriarchal norms are linked to intimate partner violence and how this has a direct effect on the position and role of females in the home and produces inequality in marriage. Within the framework of patriarchy, and the limitations of using a small, specific sample population, the article also identifies implications for practice.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyze the past two and a half decades of welfare regime analysis in comparative social policy, particularly referring to the avalanche of research studies set off by Esping-Andersen's book The Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism, and the main developments it led to in terms of developing welfare regime theories, with special reference to the development of ideal types.
Abstract: This article analyses the past two and a half decades of welfare regime analysis in comparative social policy, particularly referring to the avalanche of research studies set off by Esping-Andersen’s book The Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism, and the main developments it led to in terms of developing welfare regime theories, with special reference to the development of ideal types. The article applies the method of developing social policy theory, in particular ideal-typical welfare regime theory. It looks at the differences between the theory (and method) of using ‘ideal types’ and the ones that rely on ‘real types’. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors mapped out the social work profession in 10 countries, reflecting on its structure, identity and development, and provided insights, conclusions and recommendations for future research.
Abstract: An emerging global consciousness and rising attention given to international social work development has seen the recognition of comparative research within the profession. Understanding the functioning and organisation of social work within various country contexts is critical in order to formulate knowledge around its overall impact, successes and challenges, allowing social workers to learn from one another and build professional consolidation. The profession is mapped out in 10 countries, reflecting on its structure, identity and development. Although the profession is developing globally, it is also experiencing significant challenges. Key insights, conclusions and recommendations for future research are presented.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors explored welfare services in rural China using a broad definition of social welfare: efforts by the entire country and society to promote personal or societal well-being.
Abstract: While rural residents still comprise nearly 60 percent of the total population in China, little is known about the evolution of rural welfare. This article explores welfare services in rural China using a broad definition of social welfare: efforts by the entire country and society to promote personal or societal well-being. Diverse approaches have been implemented to provide social services for rural residents with complicated dynamics among different providers, which follows a path different from that in the West. Findings of this study have important policy and research implications for understanding and further developing social welfare services in rural China.
