TL;DR: In this paper, the important elements for the implementation of knowledge management in engineering industries have been analyzed to obtain an Interpretive Structual Modeling (ISM) which shows the interrelationships of the variables and their levels.
Abstract: In this age of globalization, to survive, organizations need a good capacity to retain, develop, organize and utilize their knowledge assets. The knowledge of an organization comprises of professional intellect, such as know‐how, know‐why, and self‐motivated creativity; as also the experience, concepts, values, beliefs and ways of working that can be shared and communicated. Knowledge Management (KM) is described as the management of an organization’s knowledge through the processes of creating, sustaining, applying, sharing and renewing knowledge to enhance organizational performance and create value. Interpretive Structual Modeling (ISM) is a methodology for identifying and summarizing relationships among specific elements, which define an issue or problem. It provides a means by which order can be imposed on the complexity of such elements. In the present paper the important elements (also referred to as variables) for the implementation of KM in engineering industries have been analyzed to obtain an ISM, which shows the inter‐relationships of the variables and their levels. These variables have also been categorized depending on their driving power and dependence.

TL;DR: Some of the very first insights into development of GSCM theories are provided, which may prove to be a very useful source of information to practitioners and regulators in their green practices implementation programs.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to introduce and provide an overview of the various issues related to Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) and suggest further scope and direction of research in this emerging field. Design/methodology/approach – The work relies on experiences, case studies and other literature related to GSCM. Literature has been segregated to understand various GSCM issues. A detailed review is used to sort out the literature and develop the research direction of the study. The review is focussed on development of GSCM including all those researchers which is relevant to environmental and social sustainability toward operation management and the supply chain. A literature review seems to be a valid approach, as a necessary step in structuring a research field. Findings – The objectives of this paper are to identify major research work conducted on GSCM and to classify them to identify gaps in literature and opportunities for future research. The paper has provided an integrative fr...

TL;DR: A conceptual framework discusses the two streams of covariance-based and variance-based SEM by analysis of theory, measurement model specification, sample and goodness-of-fit and concludes with discussion of some open questions in management research practice that remain under-investigated and unutilized.
Abstract: Purpose – The research practice in management research is dominantly based on structural equation modeling (SEM), but almost exclusively, and often misguidedly, on covariance-based SEM. The purpose of this paper is to question the current research myopia in management research, because the paper adumbrates theoretical foundations and guidance for the two SEM streams: covariance-based and variance-based SEM; and improves the conceptual knowledge by comparing the most important procedures and elements in the SEM study, using different theoretical criteria. Design/methodology/approach – The study thoroughly analyzes, reviews and presents two streams using common methodological background. The conceptual framework discusses the two streams by analysis of theory, measurement model specification, sample and goodness-of-fit. Findings – The paper identifies and discusses the use and misuse of covariance-based and variance-based SEM utilizing common topics such as: first, theory (theory background, relation to the...

TL;DR: This is the first study that analyzes the inhibitors of SMED by utilizing TISM approach and highlights the significance of TISM over conventional interpretive structural modeling (ISM) in order to provide interpretation for direct as well as significant transitive linkages in a directed graph.
Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to elucidate the methodology of total interpretive structural modeling (TISM) in order to provide interpretation for direct as well as significant transitive linkages in a directed graph. Design/methodology/approach This study begins by unfolding the concepts and advantages of TISM. The step-by-step methodology of TISM is exemplified by employing it to analyze the mutual dependence among inhibitors of smartphone manufacturing ecosystem development (SMED). Cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to the classification analysis is also performed to graphically represent these inhibitors based on their driving power and dependence. Findings This study highlights the significance of TISM over conventional interpretive structural modeling (ISM). The inhibitors of SMED are explored by reviewing existing literature and obtaining experts’ opinions. TISM is employed to classify these inhibitors in order to devise a five-level hierarchical structure based on their driving power and dependence. Practical implications This study facilitates decision makers to take required actions to mitigate these inhibitors. Inhibitors (with strong driving power), which occupy the bottom level in the TISM hierarchy, require more attention from top management and effective monitoring of these inhibitors can assist in achieving the organizations’ goals. Originality/value By unfolding the benefits of TISM over ISM, this study is an endeavor to develop insights toward utilization of TISM for modeling inhibitors of SMED. This paper elaborates step-by-step procedure to perform TISM and hence makes it simple for researchers to understand its concepts. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study that analyzes the inhibitors of SMED by utilizing TISM approach.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the relationship between organizational innovation capability and firm performance, and found that three aspects of innovation capability, namely ideation and organizing structures, participatory leadership culture, and know-how development, have some effect on different aspects of firm performance.
Abstract: – The relationship between overall innovation and innovation capability, and performance has been a topic of several earlier studies. However, the effects of the aspects of innovation capability on performance of a firm have stayed unfamiliar. The purpose of this paper is to study the relationship between organizational innovation capability and firm performance. The study contributes to the current understanding by presenting the important aspects of organizational innovation capability that affect firm performance. The effects are studied to both financial and operational performance. , – The approach of this study is quantitative. The data used to test the hypotheses were gathered from Finnish small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with a web-based questionnaire. The sample covered 2,400 SMEs employing 11-249 persons and having a revenue of two to 50 Meuro. The sample was randomly selected. , – The findings showed that three aspects of innovation capability, namely ideation and organizing structures, participatory leadership culture, and know-how development, has some effect on different aspects of firm performance. Surprisingly, the aspects of innovation capability were found to be more influential to the financial performance than operational performance. , – The paper contains suggestions for improving performance through developing innovation capability. The paper aims to support practice in two ways. First, organizations can identify aspects of innovation capability that affect operational and financial performance. In that way, organizations can benefit the results by applying these aspects in their everyday operations. Second, the results of the paper may help professionals to begin to understand that leveraging innovation capability may improve an organization's performance. , – Previous research has often either concentrated on innovation capability as a one dimension without studying the relationship aspect by aspect or studying only the effects of one aspect of innovation capability. The results of the study take one step further by investigating the relationship of multiple aspects of innovation capability and firm performance.
