Journal Article
TL;DR: Examen microscopique du contenu stomacal de 315 gerbilles (des genres Gerbillus et Meriones) conclude que la proportion d'insectes est faible en toutes saisons.

88 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: An energetics approach to desert granivory can provide reliable information about granivore impacts on seed reserves, but requires large data sets and biologically realistic estimators to produce accurate, high-precision results.

73 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The recent surface deposits of Kuwait are considered as a local source for sand- and dust-storms which present an acute environmental problem in the state as mentioned in this paper, and they are classified into six major classes, according to their textural characteristics and field occurrences, namely, aeolian deposits, residual deposits, playa deposits, desert plain deposits, slope deposits and alluvial fans.

68 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, Nitrification, N-leaching and NO 3 − -N reduction were studied in coastal sands and dune soils, with high rates of nitrification found when immature dune sands (that is uncolonized sands; and those from below Ammophila and H. rhamnoides ) were incubated at 25 °C with (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 ; with rates of NO 3 -N production eventually reaching those found in mature dune and garden soils.

44 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the utility of selected environmental variables as indicators of rangeland change and their potential for remote sensing and found that increasing degrees of change were associated with a decrease in total vegetation cover, an increase in the ratio of shrub to grass cover and a decrease of organic soil cover (litter and algal crusts).

38 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Qualitative and quantitative samples of aquatic snails were collected over a two year period in the South Chad Irrigation Project Area, northern Nigeria and the possible roles of the bulinids in Schistosoma haematobium transmission are discussed.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied avian population density, foraging behavior, nest site selection and other aspects of vegetation use at four points along a vegetation gradient at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Arizona.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The region of Asir, located in the south-west of Saudi Arabia, consists of a series of mountains which extend in a north-south direction and various plant assemblages were encountered in different habitats.

Journal ArticleDOI
A.M.A. Ismail1
TL;DR: In this article, the authors collected samples from different parts of the Qatar Peninsula in order to evaluate the quality of the available ground-water and found that Na+ was dominant over the entire range of electric conductivity (EC), followed by Ca2+, Mg2+ and K+.

Journal Article
TL;DR: Irrigated plants had higher photosynthetic rates than plants grown in dry conditions and total hydrocarbon loss formed a significant proportion of the rubber hydrocarbon in the plant and should be considered in making carbon balance sheets.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The low metabolic rate measured in the dogs native to the desert environment implies a low rate of food consumption, which plays a major role in rendering the use of water by these animals more frugal than that of their non-desert relatives.
