Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The specific activity for hydrogenation of cyclopropane at 0 °C on platinum catalysts was found to be independent of platinum content on two different forms of alumina, independent of the nature of the support with alumina or silica gel, and almost the same for highly dispersed samples in which nearly every platinum atom is a surface atom as for a platinum foil as discussed by the authors.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the reduction of WO 3 by H 2 to a blue form proceeds readily above 400°C and the acceleration by water is ascribed to a marked increase in the rate of diffusion of the reducing species.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a study of skeletal isomerization and hydrocracking at a platinum surface was conducted, and it was concluded that the surface intermediate for isomerisation and isobutane was 1-3 diadsorbed.

111 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that carbon burning in oxides of silica, alumina, and magnesia shows both quantitative and qualitative similarities to the combustion of pure graphite, and suggest the existence of a basic, uncatalyzed burning rate on such oxides.

109 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a hydrogen Y zeolite was used for the rearrangement of ketoximes to amides, and 75% to 95% yields of amides were obtained.

93 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a static system using a platinum on α-alumina catalyst between 40 ° and 140 °C was studied for the hydrogenation of acetylene and the percentage of ethylene in the C2 product was measured as a function of initial hydrogen and acetylene pressures, temperature, and conversion.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: For a number of straight-chained and branched alcohols, the reaction scheme for the dehydration reaction on γ -Al 2 O 3 was established in this article.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the isomerization of n-hexane, 2-methylpentane, and 3-methyl pentane was studied on various supported platinum catalysts, and the initial product distributions compared and identified with the initial distributions of the hydrogenolysis of methylcyclopentane.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the crystallite size of platinum supported on silica was increased by firing in air at temperatures up to 800°C, assuming that 15% was adsorbed in the bridged structure.

Journal ArticleDOI
E.J Arlman1
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown from crystal chemistry that, whereas at the surface of the layer-lattice modifications of TiCl 3 ( α,γ ) only one kind of active center is present ( α I ), there exist two kinds at the crystal surface of β -TiCl 3, one with a single and the other with two chlorine vacancies ( β I and β II ).

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The dependence on the composition of the oxide catalyst of the rate and selectivity of the oxidative dehydrogenation of 1-butene to butadiene over Bi2O3 MoO3 catalysts has been investigated in this paper.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of the support on the degree of dispersion of the platinum was investigated and the results indicated that platinum was dispersed to a much higher degree on alumina than on silica-alumina.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The double-bond isomerization rate of butene-1 and cis-butene-2 has been measured over alumina and silica-alumina catalysts as a function of their hydrogen contents as mentioned in this paper.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a large spectrum of CO2CO product ratios is observed in the combustion of carbonaceous deposits (coke) on porous catalysts, which results from a definite initial ratio at the burning site dependent on temperature only, and subsequent oxidation of CO to CO2 determined by a catalytic rate constant and the rate of diffusional escape of the carbon monoxide from the particle.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a gold film, electroplated on a palladium-silver alloy thimble, was used to study the mechanism of catalytic hydrogenation of cyclohexene.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the reactions of cis-and trans-dichloroethylenes with H2 over platinum-on-alumina catalysts have been characterized, and it is assumed that olefinic chlorides are adsorbed on the catalyst as stabilized tautomers.
