TL;DR: The Grey Systeni and its applications are interdisciplinary, cutting across a variety of specialized fields, and it is evident that Grey System theory stands the test of time since 1982 as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Grey System theory was initiated in 1982 [7]. As far as information is concerned, the systems which lack information, such as structure message, operation mechanism and behaviour document, are referred to as Grey Systems. For example, the human body, agriculture, economy, etc., are Grey Systems. Usually, on the grounds of existing grey relations, grey elements, grey numbers (denoted by 8 ) one can identify which Grey System is, where \"grey\" means poor, incomplete, uncertain, etc. The goal of Grey Systeni and its applications is to bridge the gap existing between social science and natural science. Thus, one can say that the Grey System theory is interdisciplinary, cutting across a variety of specialized fields, and it is evident that Grey System theory stands the test of time since 1982. As the case stands, the developn~ent of the Grey System-as well as theoretical topic-is coupled with clear applications of the theory in assorted fields. The conccept of the Grey System, in its theory and successful application, is now well known in China. The application fields of the Grey System involve agriculture [23, 77-81, 911, ecology [59], economy [61, 102, 103, 1041, meteorology [58, 74,911, medicine [55, 891, history [63, 641, geography [I], industry [61, earthquake [73, 87, 881, geology [76, 1 191, hydrology [98, 1 121, irrigation strategy [261, military affairs, sports [116], traffic [67], management [30, 97, 1051, material science [82, 831, environment [ 1081, biological protection [69,70], judicial system [loo], etc. Projects which have been successfully completed with the Grey System theory and its applications are as follows: 1. Regional econonlic planning for several provinces in China; 2. To forecast yields of grain for some provinces in China:

TL;DR: The paper addresses the state-of-the-art development of grey system theory and its application and aims to highlight and analyse relevant issues (i.e. obstacles, possible solutions and potential trends) for further research from the perspective both of greySystem theory and of the grey system methods.
Abstract: Grey system theory was initiated in the beginning of 1980s. Since then the research on theory development and applications is progressing. However, until today nearly all researchers of grey system theory are from Chinese speaking areas, and the theory is still hardly known nor accepted in the western world. The paper addresses the state-of-the-art development of grey system theory and its application. It aims to highlight and analyse relevant issues (i.e. obstacles, possible solutions and potential trends) for further research from the perspective both of grey system theory and of the grey system methods.

TL;DR: This paper proposes a new approach for grey relational analysis that is based on topological background, and this proposal method has 3 features: grey relational matrix is always symmetric, order relation of with given samples is followed grey relational grade, and distinguish coefficient is able to find an invariable structure of given data set.
Abstract: Grey relational analysis is a useful method in many fields as well known, and is presented variously, since the distinguish coefficient is fixed on using. This paper proposes a new approach for grey relational analysis that is based on topological background, and this proposal method has 3 features: (1) Grey relational matrix is always symmetric, (2) Order relation of with given samples is followed grey relational grade, (3) Distinguish coefficient is able to find an invariable structure of given data set. Two simulation examples are given, such as IRIS data set and WINE data set. This proposal method is compared with traditional grey relational analysis, about metric calculation and grey relational characteristic. In addition, it has obtained the order of given samples more clearly. And three examples are also given to show how to use the proposal method and distinguish coefficient in pattern recognition, information retrieval, and kansei engineering.

TL;DR: In this article, a grey dynamic prediction model (GDPM) is proposed to forecast the electricity consumption of commercial sector in Hong Kong, and the results show that the proposed GDPM has better forecasting performance than other five models.
Abstract: Energy is a critical component that underpins economic development. In Hong Kong, the commercial sector account for more than 60% of the total electricity consumption. With economic development, there will be an increasing demand for electricity, especially the commercial sector. Therefore, it is necessary to forecast the electricity consumption in the future and find possible solutions to meet the increasing demand. In this paper, a novel grey dynamic prediction model (GDPM) is proposed to forecast the electricity consumption of commercial sector in Hong Kong. Six models, including GDPM are used, respectively, to simulate the electricity consumption of commercial sector in Hong Kong during Years 1997-2008 and forecast the consumption during Years 2009-2015. The results show that the proposed GDPM has better forecasting performance than the other five models. Furthermore, the GDPM is used to forecast the electricity consumption of Hong Kong over the next five years. The forecast findings show the total electricity consumption of commercial sector will reach to 108050.0 Terajoule in 2020. Therefore, it is necessary for the Hong Kong Government to think about how to meet the increasing electricity demand.
