TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a review of current quality management practices within higher education institutions and identify a reliance on industrial models, particularly in relation to the centrality of student learning.
Abstract: There is still no consensus on how best to measure and manage quality within higher education institutions (HEIs). Thus a variety of approaches have been adopted. This paper presents a review of current quality management practices within HEIs. The review identifies a reliance on industrial models. These are applied with only partial success and identified limitations suggest a need for refinement, particularly in relation to the centrality of student learning within HE.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss tourism education from the perspective of employability as the primary goal and provide students with a philosophical and sociological foundation for decision-making strategies, as well as for professional preparation.
Abstract: Tourism education at universities tends to focus on enabling students for future careers in the industry. Little attention has been devoted to the meaning of tourism education. This paper attempts to promote awareness of overlooked perspectives and critical issues in tourism education by examining two possible approaches to educating future tourism professionals. It discusses tourism education from the perspective of employability as the primary goal. The paper also elaborates on the perspective of providing students with a philosophical and sociological foundation for decisionmaking strategies, as well as for professional preparation.

TL;DR: This paper examined individual and collective preferred learning styles of a sample of Confucian heritage culture university students, analyses links between ethnic origins and preferred learning style and suggests that preferred learningstyles should be taken into consideration when developing curriculum which is accessed by international students.
Abstract: International student enrolment at Australian higher education institutions has grown significantly over the past decade. Traditionally, many international students that study for an Australian qualification originate from Asia and a majority of these students are of Confucian culture heritage. While there is a growing body of literature that explores learning issues of Asian students involved in Australian higher education, there are examples in the literature that promote stereotypical views of the strengths and weaknesses of international students. This paper examines the individual and collective preferred learning style of a sample of Confucian heritage culture university students, analyses links between ethnic origins and preferred learning style and suggests that preferred learning styles should be taken into consideration when developing curriculum which is accessed by international students.

TL;DR: In this article, a review and evaluation of practices in Internet pedagogy in order to identify effective e-learning models for tourism and hospitality education is presented, and the pedagogical underpinnings of the elearning models are analyzed and mapped into a three-era framework of e-Learning pedagology.
Abstract: Although an increasing number of tourism and hospitality educators are incorporating the Internet into their instruction, only few are fully exploiting the Internet’s capabilities to transform and extend their pedagogical models. As it is also generally agreed that we are still in the experimental stage for creating Internet learning environments, this paper aims at reviewing and evaluating the evolution of practices in Internet pedagogy in order to identify effective e-learning models for tourism and hospitality education. As the evaluation of any form of learning should be based on a theoretical framework to allow for the interpretation of results, the pedagogical underpinnings of the e-learning models are analysed and mapped into a three-era framework of e-learning pedagogy.
