TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a case study to illustrate the proposed SCP criteria used for evaluating suppliers' performance in the field of social compliance, but the argument is that it is insufficient and approaches ambiguity when examining the business efforts of sustainable decisions.
Abstract: Sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) has increasingly become an important operation task for business organizations in recent decades in orderto be positioned competitively within industry supply chain management. The economic, environmental, and social goals come from the threemajor dimensions of SSCM and they are derived fromcustomer and stakeholder requirements. The social compliance program (SCP)is a basic requirement established and aimsto evaluate suppliers and or business organizations’ SSCM implementation as foundation. An empirical checklist used to commonly use as a tool to evaluate suppliers’ performance in the field of social compliance, but the argument is that it is insufficientand approaches ambiguity when examiningthebusiness efforts of sustainable decisions. Today, for instance, less in-depth theoretical data are qualitativelyutilized for suppliers’ social compliance performanceevaluation. This paper represents a case study to illustrate the proposed SCP criteria used for eva...

TL;DR: In this paper, the optimal cycle time is derived and the result is applied to numerical problems with the concept of space restriction in which demand is exponential, and deterioration is time dependent.
Abstract: With today's high competitive market, to afford the cost of warehouses is a very difficult task for the management in most of the countries. Managers are faced with the need to deliver a high level of service with minimal warehouse and inventory cost. Since a large ordered quantity increases the workforce of a warehouse. So it is necessary to develop tools which can help managers to handle warehouse to avoid the extra cost of handling. So it is economical to order the inventory according to available storage space. This problem is developed with the concept of space restriction in which demand is exponential, and deterioration is time dependent. Production is taken as a function of demand. The optimal cycle time is derived and the result is applied to numerical problems.

TL;DR: A pioneering comprehensive survey of the recent and the most successful models that are based on transformation and are developed for the newly emerged website structure optimization (WSO) problem is presented.
Abstract: The unabated growth of the World Wide Web in the last decade and the increasing size of the websites have resulted in significant amount of research activity to improve the link structure of the websites. A website can be considered as a directed graph with webpages as nodes and hyperlinks as edges referred to as the Webgraph. The researchers have applied various heuristic, metaheuristic and mathematical programming models to optimize the website link structure. Website structure optimization or reorganization is also considered as a graph optimization problem. This paper presents a pioneering comprehensive survey of the recent and the most successful models that are based on transformation and are developed for the newly emerged website structure optimization (WSO) problem. Transformation based models alter the link structure according to the browsing behavior of the users to ease the navigation for all the users. In this article, the models have been classified and discussed. The origins, formul...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors divide factors affecting online luxury goods sales into two distinct aspects: perceived benefits (PB) and perceived risks (PR), and then introduce a duo-theme Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) approach for the depiction of the driving factors that have the most effects on others in both aspects.
Abstract: Factors affecting online luxury goods sales are complicated and intertwined. To stimulate online luxury goods sales, understanding of key influencing factors and causal relationships among the intertwined factors is of essential importance. To this end, this study first divides factors affecting online luxury goods sales into two distinct aspects: perceived benefits (PB) and perceived risks (PR), and then introduces a duo-theme Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) approach for the depiction of the driving factors that have the most effects on others in both aspects. An example of online luxury bags sales, from e-retailers’ perceptions, is presented. Results show that “wider selection” is the foremost driving factor, followed by “convenience,” “better price,” and “cost” in the PB aspect; whereas “trust and security” is the most influential driving factor, followed by “uncertainty” in the PR aspect. Accordingly, the luxury bags e-retailers are suggested to offer more information...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a multiple objective methodology to solve the swap problem of the firms in the oil industry, using goal programming (GP) to solve a swap problem.
Abstract: Swap practices in the oil industry have been mostly ad-hoc, with no theoretical foundation, the main objective being to swap products on an as-needed basis. This research, using goal programming (GP), proposes a multiple objective methodology to solve the swap problem of the firms in the oil industry. The proposed model offers attractive alternatives and various practical GP-based scenarios, allowing the managers in the oil industry to consider viable options which take into consideration preferences, tradeoffs and outcomes when planning their logistics strategies and supply chain management activities. The swap strategies offered in this research have been developed with close cooperation of the officials from the oil industry—thus have practical implications and can be readily implemented.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the effects of work-family conflicts, coworker relationships and salary levels on the turnover intentions of real estate brokers, and found that work family conflicts have a significant influence on job stress and turnover intention but not on job satisfaction.
Abstract: This study examined the effects of work-family conflicts, coworker relationships and salary levels on the turnover intentions of real estate brokers. A total of 400 questionnaires were distributed for the purpose of data collection, and 313 valid samples were retrieved. The results showed that work-family conflicts have a significant influence on job stress and turnover intention but not on job satisfaction. Coworker relationships significantly influence job stress, job satisfaction and organizational commitment, and while salary levels do not have a direct or significant influence, they indirectly influence turnover intention by mediating the effects of job satisfaction and organizational commitment. This study treated work-family conflicts, coworker relationships and salary levels as exogenous variables, and adopted the turnover intention model, which is a linear structural model.

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on economic growth as an endogenous factor was studied, and the authors used the seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) approach and simultaneous equations to examine the endogenous relationship between IPR and economic growth.
Abstract: This paper studies the impact of intellectual property rights (IPR) on economic growth as an endogenous factor. Most economic growth theories emphasize on enhancing IPR protection in order to encourage innovation, which stimulates economic growth, but some empirical findings also show that there exists a negative relationship between IPR protection and GDP growth rate. This paper uses the seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) approach and simultaneous equations to examine the endogenous relationship between IPR and economic growth. The empirical analysis implements a panel of data for 46 countries during the period of 2000-2007. This paper finds bilateral negative endogeneity for IPR protection and economic growth. Moreover, population growth, mobile cellular subscription, and high-tech exports significantly promote economic growth. Internet use and economic freedom significantly induce higher IPR protection.

TL;DR: This research tries to add the strictly predefined relationships of output items and analyze its effect in the existed model to say a DMU's performance is its capability which matches the goals that the organization pursues.
Abstract: Comparing performance by conventional DEA model, some DMUs may be considered as efficient units because of their outstanding performance on some relative unimportant output items. For expressing the relative importance of those input or output items, adding multiplier restrictions on them is a possible method. In this research, we try to add the strictly predefined relationships of output items and analyze its effect in the existed model. According to this approach, only the DMUs that really match the predefined requirements and have good performance can be regarded as efficient units. This is meaningful for managerial practices. That is to say a DMU's performance is its capability which matches the goals that the organization pursues. A case of performance evaluation of faculty in different types of university with specific development orientation is provided to illustrate the proposed idea. According to the numerical experiment, the performances of the faculties may be dissimilar considering dif...

TL;DR: In this paper, a new set of hybrid functions (HF) formed by the synthesis of sample-and-hold functions (SHF) and triangular functions (TF) is proposed.
Abstract: The present work uses a new set of hybrid functions (HF) formed by the synthesis of sample-and-hold functions (SHF) and triangular functions (TF). The SHF set is efficient for analyzing sample-and-hold control systems and the TF set have been employed for obtaining piecewise linear solution of control problems. After a brief review of the basic theory of HF, the operational matrices for integration in HF domain are also briefly discussed. Finally, this HF set is employed for the analysis and synthesis of homogeneous and non-homogeneous systems described via state space. Many examples are treated and the results are compared with the exact solutions and found to be attractively close. Since the HF set works with function samples, the computational burden in the presented method are much less than traditional ones.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the hierarchical Causal model to consider the relation between the intellectual property protection and the balance of royalty and license fees, and they found that both the IP protection and macroeconomic development positively related to the balance between the two.
Abstract: Research on culture industry has increased noticeably in recent years. But while some works are available on qualitative analysis, little information is available on quantitative analysis. Meanwhile, while the study on intellectual property and Licensing has been mounting steadily, little work is available on the balance of royalty and license fees. Thus, this work used the hierarchical Causal model to consider the relation between the intellectual property protection and the balance of royalty and license fees. Overall, the results indicated that both the intellectual property protection and the macroeconomic development positively related to the balance of royalty and license fees. Thus, this work suggests that every country should not only improve the regime of intellectual property protection, but also pay attention to the other macroeconomic factors that could aff ect the balance of royalty and license fees.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined how the characteristics of insurance policies and policyholders affect claims and found that the higher replacement value of the new car is associated with higher choice probability in both a high insured amount of voluntary automobile insurance and the physical damage insurance part B with non-deductible through the interaction between the random (non-random) parameters and car age.
Abstract: This paper examined how the characteristics of insurance policies and policyholders affect claims. A Mixed Logit Model was applied to this empirical analysis which means choice behavior, as well as the taste variation and heterogeneity between individuals and alternatives. The results suggest that policyholders have different utility for the attribute of premium and third-party third-person liability insurance claim. Human factors, allocation of insured amount and auto coverage are important factors affecting how claims are filed. We found that the higher replacement value of the new car is associated with higher choice probability in both a high insured amount of voluntary automobile insurance and the physical damage insurance part B with non-deductible through the interaction between the random (non-random) parameters and car age. This study implies that the physical damage insurance part B and part C might lead property-third-person liability insurance companies meet increasing burden of claims.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors give the general formulation of a discrete time optimal stopping problem under the criterion of a fractional reward, and prove the existence of optimal stopping times for this problem.
Abstract: In this paper, to the first, we give the general formulation of a discrete time optimal stopping problem under the criterion of a fractional reward. Using the standard mathematical argument in the theory of mathematical programming, we prove the existence of optimal stopping times for this problem. Furthermore we discuss e-optimal stopping times, finite stopping times, and Markov case, respectively. To the next, we give the formulation of new stopping problems which combined the discrete time multiple stopping problem and the criterion of a fractional reward, and then prove the existence of optimal stopping times for this problem.

TL;DR: This study applies 2-tuple linguistic representation and a Mamdani fuzzy inference system to fuzzy time series and finds that in forecasting unknown future data, the proposed method provides more rules than other methods do.
Abstract: This study applies 2-tuple linguistic representation and a Mamdani fuzzy inference system to fuzzy time series. Mamdani [12] proposed a max-min inference method and applied it to fuzzy logical control problem. The Mamdani fuzzy inference system is a useful tool in fuzzy modeling process, but it is rarely applied to fuzzy time series problems. By integrating 2-tuple linguistic representation, which was proposed by Herra and Martinez [16], the connection between fuzzy modeling inference and fuzzy time series can be established. With the 2-tuple concept, historical data can be fuzzified to a fuzzy set with triangular membership and the loss of information is reduced. The fuzzy if-then rule can be established by two consecutive data and a Mamdani fuzzy inference system can be applied in the inference process. Two examples are investigated. First, the proposed method is applied to forecast enrollments at the University of Alabama. Compared with six different methods, the average MAPE value shown by the...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that for small companies, it is hard for them to get financing from the banks as there are many restrictions on the bank market, only by negotiating and bargaining with banks can they get financing.
Abstract: For small companies, it is hard for them to get financing from the banks as there are many restrictions on the bank market, only by negotiating and bargaining with banks can they get financing. If the company can no longer expect to pay out the amount of debt, then the bank can immediately carry out the loan contract to clear all the financial accounts of the company, if so the company must be announced bankrupt. While in perfectly competition market, if occurs a breach will lead to the increase of the debt levels and interest, then easy to get investment. And company's investment also exist uncertainty due to the volatility of the interest rates, on the other hand this will increase the execution value of investment plans. In conclusion, liabilities for the choice of investment opportunity is depended on the debt market structure, and the probability of default once increasing, the capital cost is also subsequently increasing.

TL;DR: This study provides the calculating formula for the C USUM's reference values, calculates ARLs using a Markov chain approach for a semiconductor production, and shows that CUSUM control chart has significantly better performance.
Abstract: The cumulative sum (CUSUM) control chart is much better than a C control chart when the process demonstrates small to moderate-sized shifts. This study provides the calculating formula for the CUSUM's reference values, calculates ARLs using a Markov chain approach for a semiconductor production. An actual data set from a wafer plant is used to demonstrate the operation of the proposed model. Simulation method is used to double-check the analytical ARL result. The results show that CUSUM control chart has significantly better performance. It provides a useful method to detect the process variations and improve process quality for wafer plants.

TL;DR: In this paper, an asset pricing formula is derived under an economic model incorporating investors' heterogeneous beliefs, and the autocorrelation of the asset returns is computed using the dataset coming from the Weighted Index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
Abstract: An asset pricing formula is derived under an economic model incorporating investors’ heterogeneous beliefs. Applying this pricing formula, the autocorrelation of the asset returns is computed. An analysis of the autocorrelation reveals the influence of agents’ heterogeneous beliefs on asset price efficiency. Using the dataset coming from the Weighted Index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange, we test whether the heterogeneous beliefs between the institutional investors in the Taiwan stock market have a significant effect on price efficiency.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors empirically take estimation of capital mobility for developing countries based upon the presence of sterilization, and conclude that the capital mobility is truly overestimated while the sterilization is present.
Abstract: The main purpose of this essay is empirically taking estimation of capital mobility for developing countries based upon the presence of sterilization. We used an uncovered interest rate model (developed by Edward & Khan,1985) to estimate the degree of capital mobility and extension by Haque & Moteil (1991), and then discussing the structure change in the effect of a change in the sterilization coefficient on the index of capital mobility. The sample countries, we particularly investigate the capital mobility for two fast-growing Asian developing countries, Korea and Taiwan. Yet, along with sterilization frequently exercised by developing counties, Willett et al. (2002) proposed a model which is more applicable to help to estimate the capital mobility for some developing countries. The empirical evidence concludes that the capital mobility for two fast-growing developing countries is truly overestimated while the sterilization is present.

Abstract: A p-vertex dominating graph is a finite, simple and connected graph G with exactly p-vertices adjacent to all the vertices of G. We characterize 1-vertex dominating graph. We construct 1-vertex dominating graphs with maximum number of edges and prove that they are hamiltonian, 2-connected, triple connected and 1-hamiltonian. More over we define a 1-vertex dominating set D1v and the 1-vertex domination number γ1v (G) of a graph G. Also we find the 1-vertex domination number for some graphs.

TL;DR: Wu's list decoding algorithm, when restricted to binary codes, allows decoding up to the binary Johnson bound, but in the vast majority of cases, this bound is not capable to reach the covering radius R of the code.
Abstract: Wu's list decoding algorithm, when restricted to binary codes, allows decoding up to the binary Johnson bound. Unfortunately, in the vast majority of cases, this bound is not capable to reach the covering radius R of the code, and this implies that some n-tuples do exist that are not list decodable. Nevertheless we prove that a class of Reed-Muller codes it exists, for which the decoding radius τwu is greater than or equal to the covering radius. This situation is the list decoding counterpart of perfect codes.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a complete theorem and showed the optimal solution k* exists and is unique, and a numerical example is used to illustrate the application of this proposed model.
Abstract: Hou [European Journal of Operational Research 168 (2006) 463-474] developed an inventory model for deteriorating items with stock-dependent consumption rate and shortages under inflation and time discounting. This paper will discuss the inventory model which is as same as that of Hou [7]. The main purpose of this note is to present a complete theorem and show the optimal solution k* exists and is unique. In addition, a few minor misprints in Hou [7] will also be corrected in this note. Finally, a numerical example is used to illustrate the application of this proposed model.

TL;DR: This article constructs multiple-input, single-output (MISO) algorithms for fuzzy inference schemes based on the techniques of aggregation of weighted information and builds four classes of (new) composition based MISO algorithms as a realization of fuzzy interpolation of the previous new functional representations.
Abstract: In this article, we will construct multiple-input, single-output (MISO) algorithms for fuzzy inference schemes based on the techniques of aggregation of weighted information. First, by an example, we examine various aspects of a crisp discrete multivariable function under fuzzy environment and obtain many its new functional representations. Next, following the merits of such representations, we build four classes of (new) composition based MISO algorithms as a realization of fuzzy interpolation (extension) of the previous new functional representations, in which, the class of Mamdani-type MISO algorithms are rediscovered. Finally, as an application, we provide an alternative approach to the equivalence conditions of some fuzzy inference methods issued by Seki and Mizumoto recently. In Seki and Mizumoto's approach, they showed that three widely used as fuzzy control methods— the product-sum-gravity method, the simplified fuzzy inference method and the fuzzy singleton- type inference method, are equ...

Abstract: The environmental protection subject received the enormous attention in the recent years for Taiwan economy development process, and it's also the question which the enterprise must to face. Industry of organic agricultural, organic food, the non-environmental damage food also follows the national income increase to develop, and the organic specialty stores emerges to represent the green industry to gradually start in the retailing industry to hold the small space. Although, there are not any project can be follow up on the enterprise, but it is extremely important about how to use the less resources to achieve the customer demand. If we can perform the factor of green marketing essential quality and to classify, then the enterprise can to use it under the first times, however, the enterprise can to perform the green marketing success. This study applies Kano's model to classify attributes as attractive quality, one-dimensional quality, must-be quality, indifferent quality and reverse quality. TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored the importance of the life cycle of firms on the link among corporate governance, intellectual capital and firm value in a simultaneous equations framework in the emerging Taiwan market.
Abstract: There are different models to measure the effect of corporate government on firm value. These models depend on different dimensions of intellectual capital, the interrelations between them and the effects on firm performance. It is important to analyze several specificities in small and medium sized enterprises (SME) in emerging countries. To extend prior studies, this paper specifically explores the importance of the life cycle of firms on the link among corporate governance, intellectual capital and firm value in a simultaneous equations framework in the emerging Taiwan market. This paper adds to the literature on the determinants of intellectual capital performance in the emerging Taiwan market. In particular, it tests the theories that corporate governance has impact on firm value through the intermediating role of intellectual capital. Our empirical results suggest that the relationship between corporate governance and firm value mainly depends on the nature of proxies for intellectual capita...

Abstract: A graph G with ∣ E (G) ∣ = q, an injective function f: V(G)→{0, 1, 2, g, q} is a β -labeling of G provided that the values f (u) - f (v) for the q pairs of adjacent vertices u and v are distinct. A β-labeling is also known as a graceful labeling. It has been conjectured that every tree is graceful. In this paper, we define graceful labeling for a tree constructed from caterpillars.

TL;DR: The out-of-control ARL of the moving range chart is investigated using computer simulation and it is found that positive skewness coefficient present in the underlying distribution would produce a shorter out- of- control ARL than the normal data.
Abstract: The moving range control chart is usually established to monitor the variability of the process characteristic for situations where the individuals control chart is applied. In the design of a control chart, the average run length (ARL) of the chart is usually used as an important indicator for evaluating control chart performance. In the present paper, the out-of-control ARL of the moving range chart is investigated using computer simulation. Three types of data are generated for study: normal and independent data, non-normal data, and autocorrelated data, such that the effects of non-normality and autocorrelation on the detection ability of the chart can be investigated. From the simulation results, we find that positive skewness coefficient present in the underlying distribution would produce a shorter out-of-control ARL than the normal data. Also, if we are able to know that the data are positively highly autocorrelated, then “span two” should be used for the operation of the moving range char...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated how ex-day prices reacted to the introduction of a dividend imputation system to Taiwan in 1998 and found a decline in abnormal returns after the tax reform.
Abstract: We investigated how ex-day prices reacted to the introduction of a dividend imputation system to Taiwan in 1998. Under this system, domestic individual shareholders pay taxes on dividends with fully refundable tax credits. We found a decline in ex-day abnormal returns after the tax reform. Ex-day abnormal returns are positively (negatively) related to dividend yields for the low-yield (high-yield) stocks in the post-imputation period. The results support the tax-based explanations.
