TL;DR: An overview of the main types and functions of succession planning for senior leaders, and opportunities for its application in the contexts of shared governance, transparency, investment in developing and promoting existing talent, and institutional considerations are discussed in this paper.
Abstract: Succession planning is a practice that is relatively routine and expected in the corporate and government sectors, but has historically been problematic in higher education. This paper provides an overview of the main types and functions of succession planning for senior leaders, and considers opportunities for its application in the contexts of shared governance, transparency, investment in developing and promoting existing talent, and institutional considerations. The challenges and benefits of succession planning are discussed to provide guidelines for process.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors detail the social media engagement efforts used by successful nonprofits and build on these insights in developing recommendations for effective social media plans to increase the visibility and service areas of public service organizations.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to detail the social media engagement efforts used by successful nonprofits and to build on these insights in developing recommendations for effective social media plans to increase the visibility and service areas of public service organizations. The topic of social media use by nonprofits is viewed through a practice lens. Specific campaign activities for becoming distinguished nonprofits are identified. Essential aspects of social media engagement initiatives that translate into public service activities include tying online effort to the mission of the organization, providing for a dedicated person or team to ensure pointed social media efforts integrated into existing strategies, and developing a cost analysis coupled with benchmarks for success. Incorporating the recommendations detailed in this paper may help to expand the reach of otherwise resource-limited public service organizations, and can foster the transition from merely having supporters on paper to working with engaged, committed, and informed volunteers and donors.

TL;DR: The analysis of patent forward citations on essential patents and proprietary patents in the mobile telecommunication industry shows that by the citations of essential patents from incumbent standard setters, semiconductor suppliers build their proprietary knowledge.
Abstract: The article attempts to elucidate why incumbent standard setters lose their grounds through the knowledge spillovers under standardization. Incumbent standard setters are presumed to control innovations and interfirm divisions of labor by managing the architectural knowledge of the whole product system concerned. We conduct the analysis of patent forward citations on essential patents (SEP: Standard Essential Patent) and proprietary patents in the mobile telecommunication industry. The result shows that by the citations of essential patents from incumbent standard setters, semiconductor suppliers build their proprietary knowledge. The result also reveals that a major semiconductor supplier accelerates such spillovers of architectural knowledge.

TL;DR: In this paper, the association between an organization's multicultural and internet advertising is explained through the size of its total advertising expenditures, where African Americans and Hispanics can be seen as vulnerable consumers in the context of food & beverage and restaurant industries.
Abstract: Given the technology use among ethnic populations, advertisers are allocating greater percentages of their multicultural advertising budgets towards the internet. The association between an organization’s multicultural and internet advertising is explained through the size of its total advertising expenditures. African Americans and Hispanics can be seen as vulnerable consumers in the context of food & beverage and restaurant industries; given their pre-disposition to diet-related health maladies. Food & beverage marketers spending more on multicultural advertising, expend more on internet advertising. As an organization has societal moral obligations that increase with its size, public policy and managerial implications is discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, Transnational Advocacy Network’s efforts is winning by being able to convince the regime-makers as to the importance of the FCTC by successfully circulating, its knowledge, expertise and ideas.
Abstract: Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) has 180 parties representing 89% of the world population. Tobacco industry fought hard in opposition to the treaty, preferring instead industry selfregulation under free trade ethos. After establishing the FCTC regime, now there is a thrust to implement its provisions, monitor implementation and stigmatize non-implementation. If the tobacco industry is losing its battle to prevent FCTC from being such a threat, who is winning and how? Transnational Advocacy Network’s efforts is winning by being able to convince the regime-makers as to the importance of the FCTC by successfully circulating, its knowledge, expertise and ideas.

TL;DR: Using an auto collision company as a case in point, prescriptive processes for Lean production in small, non-standardized workplaces are given and how Phillips and Stone's training model is incorporated as management and workers are trained in Lean Six Sigma is shown.
Abstract: Entrepreneurs and small businesses would like to benefit from the lean production models they see in larger businesses, but often have non-standardized processes. Unlike larger organizations with specialized tasks, employees of entrepreneurial small businesses perform many different functions, which makes the adoption of Lean Six Sigma methods daunting. Using an auto collision company as a case in point, this paper gives prescriptive processes for Lean production in small, non-standardized workplaces. The case clearly follows the Six Sigma Implementation Framework, but also shows how Phillips and Stone’s training model is incorporated as management and workers are trained in Lean Six Sigma.

Journal Article
TL;DR: This study empirically tested, and strongly confirmed, cooperative engagement theory in the hospital industry for COPD, heart failure, and mental illness, and found that the more NGOs, and NGO-posing GOs, were included on the hospital's website (the authors' proxy for NGO engagement), the lower the hospital’s Medicare and non-Medicare charges.
Abstract: Cooperative engagement theory predicts that organizations will act more responsibly the more they engage with NGO stakeholders who themselves act as agents for societal interests. This study empirically tested, and strongly confirmed, cooperative engagement theory in the hospital industry for COPD, heart failure, and mental illness. Using hierarchical linear regression, we found that the more NGOs, and NGO-posing GOs, were included on the hospital’s website (our proxy for NGO engagement), the lower the hospital’s Medicare and non-Medicare charges. We present and discuss finer-grained results, and discuss implications of our results for the hospital industry and cooperative engagement theory in general.
