TL;DR: In this article, a literature review identifies the main categories of internal and external drivers of green supply chain management practices, including organisational factors, regulation, customers, competitors and society.
Abstract: This study explores the factors that drive or hinder organisations to implement green supply chain management initiatives. A literature review identifies the main categories of internal and external drivers of green supply chain management practices, including organisational factors, regulation, customers, competitors and society, but there is little indication of suppliers as drivers for green supply chain management. Internal barriers include cost and lack of legitimacy, whereas external barriers include regulation, poor supplier commitment and industry specific barriers. An explorative study is conducted based on interviews from seven different private and public sector organisations. Encouragingly, across the organisations, more drivers than barriers to environmental supply chain management are identified. Organisations seem to be more influenced by external rather than internal drivers. The barriers to environmental supply chain management experienced by organisations tend to be both internal and external.

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of definitions and classifications of types of risk in supply networks is provided, and a tool is provided and its testing and development in four case studies in the electronics sector is described.
Abstract: Increasing product/service complexity, outsourcing and globalisation have led to increasingly complex, dynamic supply networks. This has impacted on risk, changing it and changing its location in supply networks. This paper provides a review of definitions and classifications of types of risk; an holistic view of risk assessment and management is taken here. Little evidence is apparent of empirical research on risk in supply networks or tools to help identify, assess and manage that risk. A tool is provided and its testing and development in four case studies in the electronics sector is described. Experiences of using the tool are discussed and conclusions drawn on its potential further development and application. r 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper developed a theoretical model on the different types of institutional pressures motivating manufacturing enterprises to pursue green supply chain management (GSCM) practices and commensurate performance outcomes.
Abstract: Green supply chain management (GSCM) has been a developing topic for at least a couple of decades. Over this time, significant complexities have been observed in its management. Helping to simplify and understand these complexities is necessary from both a practical and research perspective. Given this situation and to further enhance understanding of the topic and even supply chain management in general, this paper develops and empirically tests a theoretical model on the different types of institutional pressures motivating manufacturing enterprises to pursue green supply chain management (GSCM) practices and commensurate performance outcomes. Using a sample of 396 Chinese manufacturers, path analysis is used to evaluate the many structural links. The statistic results show that institutional pressures have driven the manufacturer adoption of internal GSCM practices which in turn relate to their external GSCM practices adoption. The statistic results also suggest that GSCM practices do not directly affect economic performance, but can improve it indirectly. This research contributes to the literature on institutional theory in corporate environmental practices. The research findings provide useful insights for managers seeking to adopt GSCM practices. The results also provide policy insights for professional organizations, regulators, and legislators to further promote GSCM.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the relationship between supply chain vulnerability and supply chain risk and found that supply chain characteristics such as a firm's dependence on certain customers and suppliers, the degree of single sourcing, or reliance on global supply sources are relevant for a firms exposure to supply chain risks.
Abstract: A growing number of academicians and practitioners have put supply chain risks on their agendas, particularly triggered by a recent series of catastrophic events that have disrupted economies and supply chains around the globe. Given the increasing awareness of this important topic, the purpose of this research was to study supply chain risks in more detail and to investigate the relationship between supply chain vulnerability and supply chain risk. Responses from 760 executives from firms operating in Germany reveal that supply chain characteristics such as a firm's dependence on certain customers and suppliers, the degree of single sourcing, or reliance on global supply sources are relevant for a firm's exposure to supply chain risk. Overall, this research represents the first large-scale investigation of this important relationship and provides a finer understanding of the antecedents of supply chain vulnerability.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide a grounded definition of supply risk and provide practitioners and academicians a starting point for understanding supply risk, and insights as to how supply risk can negatively affect business operations.
Abstract: All purchasing organizations encounter supply risk, whether it is explicitly understood and assessed, or reactively managed. The purpose of this paper is to provide a grounded definition of supply risk. Case study data from seven purchasing organizations uncovered various definitions of supply risk. These definitions focus on the sources of supply risk, emanating from individual supplier factors and market characteristics, and the outcomes of supply risk events, which involve the inability of purchasing firms to meet customer requirements and threats to customer life and safety. Findings from this research provide practitioners and academicians a starting point for understanding supply risk and insights as to how supply risk can negatively affect business operations.
