Abstract: Interviews were conducted with 1 registered pharmacist at all commercial outlets within Salt Lake City Utah to determine 1) attitudes regarding the sale of contraceptives to married and unmarried persons 2) the extent to which pharmacists knew the law regarding the sale of contraceptives 3) if the pharmacist was consulted for advice about contraceptive usage 4) what social factors were associated with the pharmacists attitudes. Findings indicated that most agreed that contraceptives should be sold to married and unmarried adults although there was ambivalence as to making contraceptives available to unmarried minors. Virtually all respondents indicated they had been approached for advice or information about contraception although "advice" was thought to be better left in the hands of the physician. In light of the population explosion it is important to develop the pharmacists role as a motivator for planned parenthood. Pharmacist and patron must be educated and motivated to use and provide family planning.(AUTHORS MODIFIED)
