TL;DR: In this article, emoticons are analyzed from a pragmatic, relevance-theoretic perspective, which entails determining the extent to which emoticons contribute to the eventual relevance of the information communicated by the text typed on the keyboard.
Abstract: Text deformation and emoticon use have become pervasive in today's computer-mediated communication. In this article, emoticons are analysed from a pragmatic, relevance-theoretic perspective, which entails determining the extent to which emoticons contribute to the eventual relevance of the information communicated by the text typed on the keyboard. Eight pragmatic functions are proposed, which correspond to the different ways in which emoticons satisfy the user's search for relevance. The analysis will also address how emoticons contribute to a more fine-grained identification of the user's attitudes, feelings and emotions, which are often difficult to pin down in text-based communication.

Abstract: This article presents an overview of the studies in the area of Critical Discourse Analysis (ACD). To begin with, I explain the meaning of the terms CDA and CL (Critical Linguistics), and how a ‘scientific peer group’ was formed, involving the pioneers in CDA. Next, I outline a brief history of CL and CDA as a new area of discourse studies, and move on to define some key terms in the field, such as ‘critical’, ‘ideology’ and ‘power’. Finally, I point out some open questions and perspectives.

Abstract : This text shows some relevant aspects on education as a determinant factor of the knowledge search, linking disciplines like mathematics and mother language, Portuguese. Despite living under a same ceilling, they are yet considered strange. This article places some aspects and foundations to the real complicity between both, mathematics and Portuguese, despite their normality and supposed independence relationship.

TL;DR: This article presented an overview of Brazilian research studies aimed at building didactic models of genres, of their didactic sequences, and of didactic intervention works developed under this perspective, focusing especially on those works carried out under the supervision of Machado, and which were developed autonomously by different researchers.
Abstract: The objective of this paper is to present an overview of Brazilian research studies aimed at building “didactic models of genres”, of their didactic sequences, and of didactic intervention works developed under this perspective. However, we will limit ourselves to the perspective of socio-discursive interactionism (SDI), focusing especially on those works carried out under the supervision of Machado, and which were developed autonomously by different researchers. In this paper we will indicate the validity of using the theoretical and methodological concepts of the SDI, the genres analysed, the different objectives established and the theoretical, methodological and pedagogical conclusions which these works managed to arrive at, as well as the questions they left answered.
