TL;DR: In this paper, the authors introduced the concept of the complex mode indicator function (CMIF) and its application in spatial domain parameter estimation, which was developed by performing singular value decomposition (SVD) of the frequency response function (FRF) matrix at each spectral line.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the influence of modal control using full state-variable feedback is first demonstrated, and then an estimation algorithm is applied to reconstruct the state vector from the minimum number of measurements.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an efficient method of smoothing steady state, dissipative hyperbolic systems with one spatial dimension using point sensors placed on the system, and demonstrate the algorithm's performance by studying the smoothing problem for sound waves in an air-filled pipe.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a filter is formulated in the continuous frequency domain using an Instrumental Variable (IV) technique to estimate mass, stiffness and damping parameters from measured vibration data.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a pattern recognition strategy for online chatter detection was proposed and developed by analysing the acceleration signals from a milling operation, where the components of the feature vectors were defined in terms of total power and dispersion of the dominant forced and chatter vibration modes extracted from linear stochastic models characterising the vibrations.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, an approach to recovering transient shaft speed using a Fourier analyser is presented. But the Fourier analysis is not suitable for the measurement of high frequency shaft vibrations.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a model of the force response to feedrate changes in slot milling, based on previously reported experimental studies, is presented, and simulation studies are performed, using a flat band width multi-frequency test signal to persistently excite the system.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the relations between the right and left eigenvectors of a non-symmetric matrices are established for axisymmetric rotors with non-synmmetric coupling.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the operation of the impedance method of non-destructive inspection on honeycomb structures with carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) skins has been investigated, and it has been shown that this transducer is an attractive alternative to the vibrating rod transducers used in commercially available testing instruments, since an absolute value of impedance can readily be obtained, whereas the output of the VR transducers is a highly nonlinear function of impedance so only comparative measurements are produced.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, two algorithms for subspace inverse iteration are presented, and their convergence properties and applicability in solving TLS problems are analyzed based on the convergence rate and the operation counts in each iteration step.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a method for extracting the loss factors of each mode of vibration of a structure from an analysis of the structural response to an impulse is described, which does not require the transient to have died away within the time over which the response is measured.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a microcomputer based on-line bearing condition monitoring system was developed, which employed synchronised segmentation and parametric spectral comparisons to identify defect sensitive resonances for an investigated bearing system at an early stage of damage.
