Abstract: This paper concerns mining in the Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC) in the context of the present world crisis. As such it concentrates on the bulk of mineral–metal extraction in the region which is for export onto the world market, primarily to the industrialized, OECD countries. The potentially important area of intra-regional mineral–metal trade is not considered.
