TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the potential documentary and communicative dimension of the literary text, starting from the analysis of some of Corrado Alvaro's works concerning Calabria, his homeland, the author tries to deal with the main points of the especially post-modern, debate that contraposed anthropologists and literary criticists.
Parole chiave: antropologia della letteratura, Corrado Alvaro, memoria, realismo, Calabria Here and Then. Anthropology of Corrado Alvaro's writing The paper explores the potential documentary and communicative dimension of the literary text. Starting from the analysis of some of Corrado Alvaro's works concerning Calabria, his homeland, the author tries to deal with the main points of the, especially postmodern, debate that contraposed anthropologists and literary criticists. Some characteristic oppositions of Corrado Alvaro's writing - magic realism/realism, particular/universal -, as well as his peculiar way of declining the place/memory relationship, make the author’s writing also interesting for the anthropologist. Keywords: anthropology of literature, Corrado Alvaro, memory, realism, Calabria

TL;DR: In this article, the authors draw from ethnographic research conducted with Preparing For Life (PFL), an early intervention program operating in Darndale, Ireland, to defend this argument from an ethical rather than political perspective.
Abstract: Early intervention (EI) programs face severe and often condemnatory critique. Some common criticisms arising within the social science literature concern the burden of moral blame that EI programs supposedly place upon parents; the use of inaccurate or misleading scientific ‘evidence’; and the absorption of children from minority or peripheral backgrounds into the dominant culture. These criticisms might be unwarranted and must be questioned. In this paper, I draw from ethnographic research conducted with ‘Preparing For Life’ (PFL), an EI program operating in Darndale, Ireland. Research with this population provides ways of responding to criticisms frequently levelled at EI. In defending this argument, I propose approaching the debate about EI from at ethical rather than political perspective.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a reflection on three forms of communication: the narrative, the empathic and the assertive, which can become a tool for training and regulating the interactive processes.
Parole chiave : interazione, narrazione, empatia, assertivita, descrizione, metafora Three forms of communication in the educational process: narrative, empathic and assertive The work proposes a reflection on three forms of communication: the narrative, the empathic and the assertive. It reflects on how narrative communication, interacting with empathic and assertive communication, can become a tool for training and regulating the interactive processes. Moreover, the article refers on the management of the metaphorical meaning of roles and how it is easier to activate an empathic and assertive relationship through this skill. Keywords: interaction, narration, empathy, assertiveness, description, metaphor

TL;DR: In this article, an educational model that stimulates young people to extend their knowledge of cultural diversity, and overcome the considerable indifference towards the discovery of the Other that appears to characterize the young people today is presented.
Abstract: Food and intercultural narratives at school: an autobiographical approach to knowing the other Is the clash of civilizations, or that of racism, the paradigm that best describes the intercultural dynamics that characterize the cultural horizon of young people today? The article addresses this question based on the research conducted between 2012 and 2016 in four secondary schools in Piedmont by researchers at the University of Gastronomic Sciences. The research looked at adolescents and dealt with the topic of "knowing the Other" through the collection and patrimonialisation of life stories about food. Results indicate an educational model that stimulates young people to extend their knowledge of cultural diversity, and overcome the considerable indifference towards the discovery of the Other that appears to characterize the young people today.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore several aspects of improvisation, in the context of musical, organizational, and everyday activities, in order to address some of the philosophical and practical issues relevant to this emerging interest.
Parole chiavi : estetica, complessita, creativita, disordine, improvvisazione, ordine, teoria organizzazionale, scienze sociali The role of improvisation and storytelling in the social sciences, art and creativity The concept of improvisation has become increasingly popular in organizational theory. This paper explores several aspects of improvisation, in the context of musical, organizational, and everyday activities, in order to address some of the philosophical and practical issues relevant to this emerging interest. Connections are made between the modernist concept of organization and scholarly inquiry, and postmodern or complexity-based approaches that stress creativity as an emergent property of the relationship between order and disorder. It concludes by suggesting that the study of improvisation demands a profound immersion in (inter-) subjectivity, emotions, time, aesthetics, performance, and social creativity, none of which have traditionally been the focus of organization and management studies, or the social sciences in general. It also suggests that the practice of social sciences itself should reflect upon and attempt to incorporate these elements. Keywords: estetica, complessita, creativita, disordine, improvvisazione, ordine, teoria organizzazionale, scienze sociali

TL;DR: In this article, an ethnographic survey conducted in Palermo (Sicily) in a host community for unaccompanied foreign minors, focusing on the collective imaginary of the sea that a group of migrant minors from South Africa incorporated during their travels, highlights, from an ethnohistorical perspective, the oral narratives and life stories collected during the symbolic-liminal passage through the Mediterranean sea.
Abstract: Water bodies. Odeporical memories of migrant minors in an ethnohistorical perspective The essay presents some results of an ethnographic survey conducted in Palermo (Sicily) in a host community for unaccompanied foreign minors, focusing on the collective imaginary of the sea that a group of migrant minors from South Africa incorporated during their travels. It highlights, from an ethno-historical perspective, the oral narratives and life stories collected during the symbolic-liminal passage through the Mediterranean sea. The re-elaboration of time and space in the boat correlates to the “bodies of water” as a possible contribution to the prospective discourse on trauma, exclusion, survival of separated children.

TL;DR: In this paper, a combination of randomized controlled trials and ethnographic models was used to evaluate the effectiveness of Preparing for Life (PFL) early childhood intervention in early childhood interventions.
Abstract: Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) are considered the “gold standard” in the evaluation of early childhood intervention (ECI) initiatives. These trials, although designed to answer the question of whether the intervention has been effective or not, do not illustrate its mechanisms. Ethnography is better positioned to observe the long-term, intimate relationships among the actors involved and the process of program delivery. Preparing for Life (PFL) is one of the few ECI initiatives to be studied with a combination of both methodologies. A central aspect of the PFL program is the “good relationship” between mothers and mentors, as recognized by the RCT. Looking ethnographically at the “logical model” illustrates how it does not reflect the “good relationship,” which is better explained with a blend of relational theories.
